St. Louis Archbishop Raymond Burke has been reassigned to the Vatican to a new position.
Burke came to St. Louis in 2003 and has not been without controversy.

Over the past five years we've heard the positive and the negative about Archbishop Burke.

What's your take on his leaving St. Louis?

Goodbye Burke - it's about time you left. I hope that you are deemed WORTHY elsewhere. I wouldn't expect a card from Sheryl Crow - don't let the door hit you in the posterior on the way out!

Archbishop Burke will be missed by MANY faithful Catholics. He is truly a humble, firm, and loving leader. I was so sad to hear he is leaving us. If anyone REALLY knew Archbishop Burke (and NOT just what they hear in the media) they know how great of a loss this is. Archbishop Burke you are loved and you WILL be missed!!

His new position, in Rome, as I understand it, will oversee such issues as parishes who strive for some type of autonomy from the Holy See.

Bye Bye, Archbishop Burke! Instead of taking a post at the Vatican, I wish you would become a monk and take an oath of silence!

The church is trying to survive, and keep to its teachings in the USA. Maybe they should let people receive the sacrements over the internet? Either way GOOD LUCK to what he was trying to do here. Where is that faith anyway? Gotta go.

I am glad to see him go because I do not think he is a good person. We all know the only reason he wanted that church was the money..

He is a greedy person and not very nice and he is a Archbishop???

I hope that the pope see the true Archbishop Burke,MEAN GREEDY AND NOT NICE PERSON...

Mr Wild - agree with you 100% - swammyadams: if he is a good person, it's ashame he didn't take the time to show it to us here in St Louis during these last 5 LONG years.
Looking forward to a change...and Speedy - knew you'd be the first to answer on this one! :)

I am a seminarian for the archdiocese... Anyone who actually spoke with the man knows this to be true: He was humble, loving, true, fervent, faithful, and fatherly. He has memorized almost every name he has ever heard. He takes frequent walks through the park with his seminarians.

One good example of his loving nature... for a children's vocation camp, he left a meeting with all the bishops of the U.S. just to hand off a cup of candy to the winning team of an activity

Almost anyone who has anything negative to say about him has never met this great man.

Your Excellency, you will be missed, and you are loved!

I am very happy for the Archbishop. This prestigous appointment is a testament by our Holy Father to the deligent job the Archbishop has done. He performed his responsibilities faithfully, in the face of hateful opposition;sheparding the people of STL in The Way of Truth. It's a shame so many WHO CALL themselves Catholic can not handle the Truth and are so irreverent to a holy man of God who was rightfully doing what he was commissioned to do.
I wish him many blessings and thank him for the fatherly love he's given to the people of this Archdiocese.

This is a sad day for St. Louis. Archbishop Burke has been a holy and fatherly leader to the faithful of the Archdiocese. He certainly is the best pick for his new position. He will be missed dearly by many. By the tree you will know the fruits. Just look around and see what he has achieved in the roughly four and a half years is St. Louis. A seminary that needs expanding and so many other aspects.
God Bless You Archbishop Burke!

he wouldnt have gotten the promotion if he wasent doing his job, he was recognized, for sticking to the teachings of the church, he didnt make new laws just inforced the same laws the church had since the begining, and he never backed down

It's been real and it's been fun.
But it hasn't been real fun.
Don't go away mad. JUST GO AWAY!

I am very thankful for what the Archbishop has done for me and ALL the faithful of Saint Louis. I am deeply sad that he is leaving as sad as when he is maligned. Freud once said that people often project their own bad qualites on another when they feel inferior to him. Not surprising that so many accuse the Archbishop (offering no evidence, of course), since so many are inferior to him in intelligence, in selflessness, in authority, and, oh, in goodness.
