The practice of downloading music, then passing it along to friends, usually via the internet, is a hot-button issue for music lovers on college campuses and around the world.
FOX 2's J.C. Corcoran of K-Hits 96 says the war between the recording industry and the everyday consumer appears to be heating up.
Tell us what you think. It's your turn to Sound Off!

If I purchase a CD I should be able to do whatever I want with it for my personal use. If the RIAA has a problem with that I can always spend my extra income on other forms of entertainment.(Video Games/ DVDs etc.)

I think "file sharing" is stealing..but, these clowns want to get us for BUYING a CD, then loading it onto our computer/ipods? Get real...

How can they even enforce this? I bought it. it's mine. As long as I don't share with anyone else, who cares? GREED!

-Hey John, can I have the ABBA collection next??

I've spent over $20,000 on CDs over the last 20 years and now they're telling me that I can't listen to the same music I've already purchased on another device (cd player and mp3 player).

I think Apple and MP3 makers need to wake up. If this is the case, there are a lot of people who aren't going to buy IPODs. I certainly would not purchase one unless I can't put my music collection on it. It's going to cost them big money.

When the recording companies first started going after music downloads I could almost sympathize with them since the file sharing is illegal according to copyright law. Since they won a couple of big fights they have gotten completely out of control and are trying to reinterpret those laws to get even more payouts. I hope people quit buying music altogether for a while and let these money hungry record companies see what pissing off your customer base does for the bottom line. Maybe if they can't afford some hot shot lawyer they'll come back down to earth.

I don't see the difference between file sharing and when I used to make "mix tapes".
