GAS TAX

An increased gas tax is one idea on the table to help pay for the paving of new lanes on Interstate 70 and Interstate 44.

One plan is a one cent sales tax - the other a half cent sales tax along with increasing the state gas tax.

Most of the money would go to building a new lane just for large trucks to travel I-70.

ILLINOIS FUEL CRUNCH

The fuel crunch in Illinois could get worse in July. The Illinois Petroleum Marketers Association says inventories are tight in the East St. Louis area. It's asking the federal government to let stations sell lower-grade gas.

Illinois gas prices are among the highest in the country, averaging more than $3.30 a gallon.

For a look at the lowest prices at the pump in our area, click on the traffic tab, or CLICK HERE.

Tell us what you think of higher gas taxes in Missouri or lower grade gas being sold in Illinois.

It is time we all start thinking about the greater good and what kind of environment we want to leave our children. I say tax gas like we do cigarettes - high and often. Maybe it will discourage people from buying huge SUV that get 15 mpg and kill people in accidents with smaller cars. Get real STL and do what is right! I did.

I think it's time for Boy George to get his oil out of Iraq. Now a military bigshot is telling the Iraqi puppet to divide his dividends. Who's running the war?
As far as the big trucks go they pay more then their fair share in fuel taxes. It won't matter the same idiots in cars will drive in the truck lanes and cause accidents and blame the truck driver.
Wait until the Mexican trucker/smugglers start driving all over the U.S. and killing people and receive amnesty. They'll be hauling their un-inspected Chinese containers to Wang-Muck stores in your neighborhood, calling themselves "Drive by (Mexican)Truckers".
Peanut butter, dog food, hamburger, etc. eat your imports for less.

Taxes are already to high! Besides, taxing people for something they don't use is like paying a national insurance for hurricane damage. Bull!

What needs to be paved on 44 Hwy? They just repaved all 4 lanes throughout the city and county. Just another reason to jack up taxes. Missouri simply isn't making as much money on gas taxes as other states so we have to have some sort of reason to jack em up. Not that they would ever be used for what they say they would anyway.

Arent you all sick of lying politicians yet?

Were already paying more taxes than we should be paying . What is needed is a citizens oversite board on Missouri State Goverment spending .
I,m betting you put a few citizens like devas on that board . Our services would improve and taxes would go down .

If they did who thinks they would drop the tax after the roads were repaved? Typical government BS!

The problem I see in raising fuel taxes is that it would be an overwhelming burden on the poor and elderly on a limited income. The benefit of it would be to try to dissuade people from buying "big" SUVs and trucks that get unheard-of gas milage (

Is that St. Onge (spelled wrong) on crack or what? More taxes for them to steal? I don't think so.

We are already being robbed by the high gas prices, which is unfounded. Barrels of oil have actually come down and not up in the last year, yet the gas prices sky-rocket. Is there anyone in charge that cares to speak up about this? Are the regulators being paid off? I would hope that someone who is a decision maker will stand up to this madness..(Even though their job may be in jeopardy.) I can only believe that people in charge are threatened by others to "hush up" or lose their job. People are "bought" to keep things quiet. In the meantime, the economy will continue to fall. The housing market is already taking a huge hit! The middle class and lower class is wondering at this time how they can possibly survive yet another "BLOW" to their pocket books. AND.. The proposal comes up to raise gas taxes???? WHAT IS WRONG WITH ANOTHER LITTLE INCREASE??? Well, Ameren and Laclede are already gouging and raising rates. Laclede Gas charges all people who sell their home a $150.00 inspection fee for 15 minutes worth of time by their inspectors! I do not pay a lawyer that much! America as we once knew is going down real quick! No one can afford to live anymore unless you are a professional athlete, a politican, or a successful entertainer. The people in "higher up" positions are going to be quiet so that they can survive!! We allow illegal people to work and not pay taxes. We allow people from other countries to mandate and adjust our values. WHAT HAPPENED TO "IN GOD WE TRUST" AND "TOGETHER WE STAND, DIVIDED WE FALL?" It is now each man for himself? Ridiculous la

I suppose I ran out of room! Anyway, Ridiculous law suits and pocket padded judges have raised prices also. The cost of living has tripled compared to the middle and lower class working citizens income. I think that we should have a "black out" day. All middle and lower class should not show up for work on this day. What would happen? Think about it! Lets take care of the real American citizens who care about this country and quit helping the rich get richer! I only wish that this blog was not just for venting, and that someone could actually step up to bat and correct America before we fall flat on our face! Russia found that communism did not work for them. Why are we headed there?

The Republicans know they have to raise taxes on our gasoline. I mean, how else are they going to get middle-class people to pay for all the income tax breaks and welfare handouts to the wealthiest of the rich they've passed the last several years?

If they raise income or sales taxes it may be so easy to see that even conservatives may figure it out. So, that leaves the gasoline tax as the only way out. It will be to make our children and babies safer on those nasty highways. That oughta do it!

So, again under Republicans, we the average people pay higher taxes so rich property developers and wealthy oil tycoons and privileged big land owners get their cherished tax breaks and outright tax handouts (like TIFs and grants).

And, wow, this is the best part: Some of these middle-class people STILL SUPPORT Republicans, can you believe that? Our money still goes to frivilous lawsuits and that gosh dern welfare state, according to them.

Wow, what does it take to make it more obvious?
