I really wish that people would stop abusing handicapped spaces. Being handicapped, is not the definition of being in a hurry, you broke a nail, or you borrowed grannys car with the tag. If you can drive yourself to the darn space and get out, and in the store in 1 minute, you are probably not handicapped.

It breaks my heart to see ol' granny hustling from 20 spots away, were gonna have to start providing AED monitors at the cart returns. If you are guilty of this crime, come on, park somewhere else!

Absolutly!! Even w/my 7 kids, we'd rather walk from the far back than take a handicap space. My mom needs one of those spaces and I know a lot of other people who need them. Those of us w/able legs should make sure those spaces are left for those who have need them most! Don't diss on the infirmed...do your part...walk the distance...don't be a taker, be a giver.

The scam by the scum who are not disabled is to borrow the sticker or go file for one by claiming that you take Aunt Jane to the market once a month. The one's who are ambulatory and utilize handicapped parking should face a $1,000 fine and have thier vehicle impounded for 6 months. Problem is just a few of us are concerned. Police could care less and stores do not have anyone keeping an eye and reporting this abuse of designated parking unless it is the employee of the month space.

I know from working in a doctors office, all the patient has to do is bring in some darn form, and have the doctor put thier signature on it and add a diagnosis, like mild back pain. Maybe these people have mild back pain because they aren't parking far enough out to walk and get thier pulse goin! I know that I have seen many doctors just sign off because they don't have the time to consult the patient about the problem, and they are just worried about getting them out of there so that they can get to the lunch room!!!! Maybe something should be done....

When my girlfriend needed a temporary one after having surgery on both feet, the process to obtain the tag was incredible easy. I see how the system can get abused. And now that holiday season is approaching, you know it's gonna get worse since parking spots will be harder to get. I really hope the system changes, but I doubt it will. There isn't a strong effort to make a change...well, except here on the FOX 2 blogs!

My mother used to have a Senior Companion who took her shopping. Both of them were very capable of walking from anywhere in a parking lot. Because the Senior Companion also drove handicapped people, she had a handicap tag. Much to my mother's aggravation, she seemed to think she had to park in a handicap spot. Many times I have seen elderly people slowly limping across a parking lot while an apparently perfectly healthy person practically ran from his/her handicap spot. I think it's a simple case of being inconsiderate. I agree that something needs to be done about it, but what?

I always park way in the back. My car parks like a boat, and there is nothing wrong in a longer walk to the car on a nice day. I also go shopping on weekdays instead of weekends whenever I can, because I always seem to get better parking. Every shopping mall has a sweet spot for good parking, you just got to scout them out.

I work in a doctors office and we work very hard to prevent disabled tag abuse. We evaluate every patient to see if they meet the state's criteria for the tag. What all physician office's need to realize is that the state can come in and audit your charts to verify that you are not falsifying the information just so your patient can get one. Every year the form we fill out gets more and more detailed.

Thats great, but some of the doctors that i have worked for, give the same darn icd-9 code everytime! thier loss......plus i dont think the state really cares, because then they would be out busting the people that are abusing it.

While undergoing chemo, I didn't ask for a handicapped parking pass. I wanted to feel "normal" even though it was an effort at times when I had to park farther away.

What disturbs me is a reserved space for expectant mothers. I had 2 children and found walking very helpful to my pregnancy and delivery. If you just gave birth, that another thing. I think the elderly might appreciate those spaces.

It is all about being courteous.

The majority of parking lots have more than enough handicap parking spots to meet the expected demands per ADA regulations (I have never seen all the handicap spots at my local grocery store being utilized). If I see several handicap spots open and have a car with handicap tags, I will use one. If there was only 1 handicap spot, then I would pass it up and select a different spot.

As for expectant mother spots. I had a child 1 1/2 years ago. The majority of my pregnancy was fine, but toward the end had complications making walking very painful. Do not assume that just because walking was helpful to you that it is the case for all pregnant people. These spots are warranted.

I am 23 years old, and a PROUD ARMY WIFE!!! My husband just returned home from IRAQ, with the 1st Calvary division - but sustained injuries from and IED (roadside bomb). I have two daughters, and one step son. I grew up in Florissant, then later moved to the Troy / Lake St. Louis area. I love to play tennis, scrabble, yahtzee, swim, and play basketball with my husband. I love to shop and sell things on eBay :)
