Monday is the day the Missouri Legislature gets together for a special session (at taxpayer's expense of about $1,700 a day!) to consider approving Gov. Blunt's special "economic development" package.

This "economic development" package will cost us taxpayers about $66 MILLION a year over the next few years.

What's it for? Economic development! And we all know what that means.

Remember how Governor Blunt just slashed Medicaid and displaced disabled people from state care to save us taxpayers money? Where are those savings? Did you get a state income tax cut? If you work for a living, no, of course you didn't! Did anyone get a tax break from his slashing $50 MILLION from the Medicaid budget?

Well, yes! several of the wealthiest people in Missouri are about to get one! In the form of tax credits! For important things like fattening up beef cows, and buying more than 75 acres of property to develop for profit!

And - get this - he wants to LEGALIZE ticket scalping! That's right! It seems some of those poor souls who buy season tickets just can't sell their unused tickets AT A PROFIT! They suffer so much because of this, he wants to allow selling sports and concert tickets at MORE THAN FACE VALUE!

His spokesman says it has NOTHING to do with the fact his brother represents TicketMaster, who resells tickets! No, absolutely nothing whatsoever!

What is the worst thing about this? They are more expensive government entitlement programs. Aren't Republicans supposed to be against government entitlement programs and big government welfare? Well, SOME are!

Just not enough. So write your local State Representative and Senator TODAY and give them a short note that you do NOT want them to support Blunt's economic development program. Right now, it is expected to be approved.

But most Democrats and several Republicans are against this as just another special interest handout.

Because it is. Just another welfare-for-the-rich big government entitlement program.

Which, apparently, is okay with Republicans if the recipients are the wealthiest of the privileged wealthy. Like Blunt and his family, for example.

Let's let them know what we think. And do it now! Here's the link:

Find your Rep and send them a quick note to tell them you are against welfare - especially for the richest of the rich.

And what is the other side of this coin. Why does Blunt feel this is good? You only presented one side. Shouldn't you want both sides presented so people can make a valid judgment. You might have a valid point but no one knows for sure. This sounds just like another bashing with no facts to back it up.

I figured the title of the big government spending program would spell out the supposed good side.

Blunt feels it is good because it is for "economic development". It will provide jobs (by the taxpayer paying for them). It will provide health insurance for employees of small business (by the taxpayer paying for them).

Of course, all of these things could be accomplished by direct vouchers to working-class people to pay for these things, but that would be "welfare".

You see, if we give it to the wealthy first, then it suddenly is not "welfare".

The Republicans are planning on passing this within the next two weeks.

Do you want $66 MILLION of your tax dollars going to rich developers and wealthy rural cattle farmers?

You do? Then what was wrong with $66 MILLION of your tax dollars going to Medicaid providers to pay for health care for the disadvantaged? I wonder: How does giving rich developers or small business people tax breaks provide more jobs than taking care of people on Medicaid, which also provides plenty of jobs? Hmmmm?

If you DON'T want this welfare handout to take place, then you'd better contact your Rep and Senator NOW or else it will be too late.

P.S. A lot of people are "bashing the Republicans" these days. It has something to do with what they have done to our country, our state, and our way of life for the last six years. Check out the other News posting about the Republicans bailing out the stock market and the mortgage industry - but heaven's NO! - not the home owner! It's not uncommon - latest polls show about 60% or more peo

people (and growing) don't seem to care for the Republicans these day.

They've proven whose side their on. And, unless you're one of those with some trite religious hangups, it's not on OUR side.

Religious views are just fine with me, too, devas.

As long as they are sincere. I don't believe most Republicans would know a sincere religious view of the world if it slapped them upside the face!

Most Republicans just spout a lot of rhetoric about school prayer and family values to hide what they are REALLY up to. Like at Bush and Blunt, for example! And that rhetoric just happens to appeal to the more fanatic fringe among the religious.

I know PLENTY of religious people who are against the war and Bush, and Blunt's uncompassionate attacks on Medicaid.

Sick of the extreme right wing profiteers commandeering this country putting profits ahead of people. I'm old enough to remember when the government represented the people, not just the wealthiest of the wealthy. But that doesn't mean I don't love my two cute little Fox Terriers and all doggies! But we all need to have some fun every now and then, in the face of a continuing and harrowing threat from the extremists and fanatics to take our freedom and our money as they force their agenda on all of us. We need to take our country back, and we can have fun doing it! Life under Obama will just be more fun - no more hangups about prayer in schools or burning flags, we'll just get on with life! Here's hoping we don't make yet another four year mistake - More of the Same Pain McCain, or Obama, we'll choose, and live with the decision for four more years. I think the choice is clear, don't you?
