Okay, as a famous president said, "There they go again!"

I notice the poll this morning shows viewers here about 75% against the idea of more state tax dollars (spelled "welfare for the rich") being spent on the Ballpark Village.

I propose this as a test of how "representative" our fine Republican legislature is. If so many are against it, they should vote against it, right? It won't be approved, then, am I correct on this?

Yet who wants to wager the Republican legislature will approve the request, and more of our tax money will go to these rich deceivers?

Even worse, they promised to build and pay for this Ballpark Village as part of the deal to get the tax handout for the Stadium itself, remember? So now what are they going to promise to build to get this one, a spaceship?

What do you think about tax money going to the Ballpark Village? Do you think Republicans will take a stand against it?

All I know is I am glad I live in IL so I don't ave to worry about this issue, because I would be pissed big time to pay for a stupid village for a crappy baseball team I don't even like.

Republicans and lower taxes? Sure, unless it benefits them.

NO more money for the Ball Park Village..If mayor Slay has anything to do with it, it will pass. They are rich enough to fund it themselves.

I saw this too. So they can pay their players to get drunk but they can't afford to build their building themselves? Look at some of the great companies in St. Louis, example one that is a successful rent a car business, I don't think they begged to the state to build their headquarters. Cardinals need to back off and build it as they can afford it. Of course Mayor Slay says it is a good thing, remember he approved the doggy dining bill too.

Why not approve TIF money for Ballpark Village? They did it for the Dome and the Whatever-It-Is Center and probably 90% of the buildings downtown. Would you rather spend your tax dollars on Ballpark Village or another bunch of Section 8 projects that get torn up by the "poor victim of society residents"? At least Ballpark Village can provide jobs and revenue and not just keep sucking money out of the treasure chest.

First of all the TIF money was approved. They Cardinals stated if the money was approved that they CARDINALS would cover the additional cost for the village. I say they are the ones who are millionares let them pay for it.

I would rather have my tax dollars go to build decent housing for people then to see the politicans spend the money the way they do.

With what they charge for tickets/parking and eats WHO CAN AFFORD TO EVEN GO TO A GAME! ITS THE SAME WITH THE LOSING RAMS.

Decent housing that gets torn to shreds before it's five years old where they have gangs, violence and drugs. Nice for downtown St. Louis, huh?

can you tell me where there are NO DRUGS, GANGS AND VIOLENCE any where in this city or country. And why are the decent hard working people lumped into this group you speak of? Don't they deserve decent housing? Are you the only one who deserves such treatment.

Remember to vote in the next mayoral race. It's time to give Slay the heave BOOGEDY just like his law partner Kurt Oldenwald got frozen out of his County council district.Slay is a greasy rat who needs first to be voted out, then prosecuted for his influence peddling, racketeering and numerous crimes including destroying the St. Louis public school system for his personal gain.

It is amazing how the middle class keeps getting their pocket book hit! What is next? The ball club does not make enough now to pay for it themselves? While they profit millions of dollars and we try to put food on the table..... WHAT ARE YOU THINKING???

UPDATE: Wednesday, July 18th...

Did you hear? The commission has so far approved recommending ONLY $27 MILLION, instead of the $32 MILLION they request. Gasp! That's a full $5 mil short of what these fat cats wanted!

Of course, if that becomes the final result, they'll just scale the project bak $10 million and pocket the extra 5.

Even the Democrats are in on this one... They are just as guilty as the Pubs for allowing this welfare-for-the-rich against the will of the people.

Of course, I pick on Republicans only because they are far more inconsistent with their welfare handouts. The Democrats were also for Medicaid increases and most welfare for the people, whereas the Republicans, in typical hypocritical fashion, decry welfare as waste while doling out millions and billions to their rich friends in private industry.

For example, Republicans are quick to call universal health insurance "socialized health care".

Isn't this Ballpark Village welfare plan "socialized private enterprise"?

But I agree, Slay the Democrat needs to go, too, along with any state representative who approves this unnecessary handout.

I plan to track and report results of how each representative votes on this plan when it reaches the floor. Then, we need to vote them out!

Thanks for the comments - again, it is obvious this is one issue where MOST folks are united against using our tax money to benefit rich developers.

(Well, except for pamrich. Actually, I think I'd rather have Section 8 housing! But remember, panrich, rich developers and real estate owners profit f

Decent, hardworking people pay for their own housing. They don't need my tax dollars to help them. I know there are no places where you can go to get away from the gangs, violence and drugs basically, but you've got to admit they're kept to a minimum in some areas. Those areas are where people WORK for the lifestyle they lead and they very much resent paying more and more taxes for the lazy ones who want the government to give them everything they have.

ANOTHER UPDATE:

It seems respectable Republican Lt. Gov Peter Kinder is one of those lining up with hands out offering the Ballpark Village owners plenty of money for their profiteering. He heads the state's Development Finance Board, which will make the decision to grant this welfare handout to the wealthiest of the wealthy. He is, of course, ALL for it!

Just so you know - write him a letter, "Tell him what you think... Because YOU paid for it". Oooops, did I just plagarize Elliot Davis?

pamrich, so hardworking people pay for their own housing? They don't need our tax dollars to help them? Hmmmm, I wonder why you can't say the same thing for the Cardinals? Aren't they hardworking? Shouldn't they pay for their own development? And, boy, they CERTAINLY don't need our tax dollars to help them, now, do they?

I am simply suggesting the Cardinals and Cordish Development's Blake Cordish WORK for the lifestyle they lead, that's all. That's simple enough, isn't it?

I have yet to go to a game at the ballpark. I don't intend to support the "out-of-town" ownership conglomerate that have no interest in the people of St. Louis, let alone the well-beloved team of the Cardinals! Their interest is to take and take to make their profits greater and greater! SHAME on THEM!!

Is this an issue of, "We're jealous the rich are rich," or is that anyone is actually angry that their tax dollars are being used. More of what I've heard from this argument is that the rich are getting richer and that the state of Missouri is paying for the new development. I might not be from the city of St. Louis, but I know a few grads who live in the area and fully support the idea as long as there is a somewhat fair compromise. These friends don't make more than 30k a year and they're surviving, too. I lived in Little Rock and saw how the development there over the past four years has changed that city (once notorius for murders). Is it that some people are upset because they now live in this city without planning for the possibilities of unexpected expense? It comes with every city. I guess people just have to learn to plan around it if they live in the area. If this project is a failure, I'll give full, due credit. Until then, I respectfully disagree that this is something that is going to ruin our lives as everyone makes it sound. After all, the ballpark was built and games are still selling out...even in a losing season. Right?

If tax dollars are paying for it, then I should be able to go free of charge to all the stuff there and enjoy it. As with the new ball park, I shouldn't have to pay to get in, and enjoy the game. I should be free to bring my picnic basket and beer and enjoy the game.
This sucks, because I grew up more towards Chicago, and have been a Cubs fan forever. I'm slowly getting to like the Cardinals, but why would I want to pay that much to go watch two businessmen play catch??
I like little league. Fun, free, entertaining. All of what baseball should be. (except for those nuts fighting parents)
It's all about the $$$$$

Tax payers will eventually end up paying for it one way or another so preapre yourself..... I hate the fact that tax payers have to pay the tax dollars and then spend a fortune to go to it....

I don't think anyone disagrees that the project will be successful and make a lot of money. But it will make that money for private individuals, and not by any stretch replace the money that the people have had spent on the project. Will it be nice and pretty and all that foo foo stuff? Probably. Will the $30,000 crowd be spending a lot of time and money there? Doubtful. Will those wealthy mentioned? Probably. Are we jealous of that? Not really. Pissed is the word. The majority of us are not in the class that will be spending so much in the new ballpark village. But we will pay for it. I'd love it if everyone would pay for me to have a new business and or home built. I know that it will be built and maybe even help the area improve, but I think tax dollars should be prioritized for important projects and not games. Let private business build the stadiums they will be using. Let them also build whatever it is that will profit them. I don't have a problem with businesses making money, as long as they build it and I freely decide to patronize them. I do have a problem paying when someone else gets rich on my investment, and I don't benefit.

Sick of the extreme right wing profiteers commandeering this country putting profits ahead of people. I'm old enough to remember when the government represented the people, not just the wealthiest of the wealthy. But that doesn't mean I don't love my two cute little Fox Terriers and all doggies! But we all need to have some fun every now and then, in the face of a continuing and harrowing threat from the extremists and fanatics to take our freedom and our money as they force their agenda on all of us. We need to take our country back, and we can have fun doing it! Life under Obama will just be more fun - no more hangups about prayer in schools or burning flags, we'll just get on with life! Here's hoping we don't make yet another four year mistake - More of the Same Pain McCain, or Obama, we'll choose, and live with the decision for four more years. I think the choice is clear, don't you?
