Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick was indicted last week in a case involving illegal interstate dog fighting. My son is a high school quarterback, and Vick is one of the NFL players he has always admired...until now, because I will no longer allow it. Vick has a rare combination of speed, elusiveness, field awareness and passing ability. He apparently also has a rare combination of cruelty and a lack of common sense. On Monday NFL commissioner Roger Goodell intervened and ordered Vick to stay away from training camp until the league completed its review of the case. The wheels of justice grind slowly, and the case might not be deposed until after the football season. What should be his fate?

First, we have to remember that Vic has not been found guilty, just indicted. Once found guilty, the NFL will have to do what they do for any player who receives the equivilent sentence.

What gets me . . . why were there not near as many protests over the Leonard Lytle manslaughter incident.

There is a very good reason that our children need their heroes to be home grown . . . we don't know anything about these sports stars . . . we can like them, appreciate the abilities shown, but to worship them as heroes . . . I disagree.

You write, "My son is a high school quarterback, and Vick is one of the NFL players he has always admired...until now, because I will no longer allow it."

No longer allow it?

If your son is in high school, maybe you should trust his judgement and have a little faith in the way you raised him.

If he still wants to admire Vick the football player, I see nothing wrong with that. He is still a great talent regardless of his current troubles. Telling another person who they should admire and those they should not, I see something wrong with that!

Vick is a talented football player, but a lousy human being.

I wouldn't be surprised if he's thrown his last pass in the NFL.

Cruelty to animals is inexcusable, heartless, and cowardly. I would hope any parent would steer their child away from such people.

Way to go, Sandy!

1st off he has only been accused of it...You are very bad at pre decideing outcomes...We have a system in this country,A process that a person that has been accused of a crime goes though...Part of that process is the accused is presumed innocent till proven guilty...If your choice is to prejudge the man thats fine,Its how you think...But to put the rope on the oak tree before a trial is ignorant,And not the American way...You had the same opinion about the guy from St Charles, MO.let the system work!! Thats why we have one..

If guilty he will be punished...But this is not Germany or Russia, this is America and until he is found guilty by a group of his peers he is considerd innocent...People no matter what crime a person is accused of until he is found guilty it is premature to condem him....And a media personality should know that more then anyone they are to present the news with out bias or prejudice...I disagree with all that want to hang him or whatever let the facts come out before you snap to judgements all you know is what you're told though the media...Let the wheels of justice turn..

Well, I'm gonna put my 2 cents worth in on this. Sandy - I get what you mean about your QB son looking at this player as an idol. My QB son proudly wore his Vick cleats last year. Is Vick a talented QB? - yes. Does that matter at this point? - no. What matters is that he wants common Joes like all of us to believe that he had no idea of the inhumane, terrible things that had been going on at his own home since 2001. How many of you have no idea of what has occured at you home since 2001? Exactly. And, Mike-From-Il: this I say to you: if it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck, and walks like a duck - then I say it's a duck.

frenchiedavini, Depending on your point of view it could be a goose..Thats why you have to remain unbias until after the trial and all the facts are out..But I hear ya..

Mike - so what's been going on at your home since 2001?
I know that in mine, there have been no "rape-stands" purchased, no dogs electrocuted or drowned, no pits built, and no dogs buried in my yard.
But that's just me and my modest home.
"Quack, quack."

And, one last thing, Mike: just because there is a jury involved, doesn't mean that what has happened will be punished. Remember, in the past, juries have awarded some idiot millions of dollars because the idiot spilled hot coffee in their lap. And the other bad thing with the Vick problem: he has LOTS of money..........do you, Mike?

I agree with frenchie...... That is horrible! He should get max everything and NEVER be allowed to set foot on a field again. How do you NOT know what goes on in your own home? It makes me sick!!!!! People like him is what gives my dog(a pitt) a bad name. Sandy, your son definitely doesn't need to idol someone so twisted, sick, and cruel. To get entertainment out of that crap? YUCK!!!!

I have a huge soft spot for animals. Even more so than people (yeah - I'll get blasted for that, but it's the truth.) People can be mean, deceitful, rude, crude, etc. Animals are innocent. They don't know why they are being hurt by humans. They don't understand. It just breaks my heart. I hope he rots in hell for what he's done. Sorry if he's still 'innocent' before being proven 'guilty'. Like others have said...quack quack!

Predictably, this has turned into a racial thing.

Why is that every time a black person is accused of a crime, the black community thinks he's being railroaded?

I don't recall the white community outraged when Martha Stewart was jailed, or Paris Hilton, or Lindsay Lohan...

Why does the race card always get played when a prominent black citizen is accused of a crime? It's frustrating and disappointing to me that people can't be objective.

Can I get a witness???

I anchor the 6 p.m. newscast and love being a part of the Fox 2 News Team. When I'm not anchoring the news, I'm trying to keep up with my two teenaged sons. (All the warnings about teenagers are true!) Just kidding, boys! I feel very fortunate to have such great kids... including my two step-daughters. My wonderful husband, who's also in the biz, is extremely talented and supportive of everything I do. I'm a huge animal lover. I have two dogs, a horse and a cockatiel. But, as a kid my pets included rabbits, goats, a racoon and a skunk! (I grew up in the Ozarks). I've traveled quite a bit, met with some famous celebrities and even been to a goat roping or two, so we have lots to blog about!
