A question for you... how do you feel about  a "suicide watch" for people in jail charged with murder?

Christopher Vaughn, the man orignally from St. Charles, charged with killing his wife and three children was just extradited back to Illinois where the crime took place.  His attorney says he will plead "not guilty". Prosecutors say he did it. He's been put on suicide watch so he doesn't take his own life while imprisoned.  I've heard people say that's a good thing and others say, "let him do it, it'll save the taxpayers a lot of money if his case doesn't go to trial."   Thoughts anyone?

He is a coward.... They could put a rope and a stepstool in his cell... and he would not do it...

Let him do it. Less tax dollars would be paid out.

I agree. Let him do it. I have never understood the whole suicide watch thing. Shoot, to me it says, "well, I'm guilty." Save time and money. Give him what he needs to do it.

I've heard how one jail provided a suicide watch . . . they cuffed the person to a bench. The cuffs had a long chain attached. Sitting next to the bench was a trash can with a plastic liner. The person was cuffed there for several hours. The person, who said she was not suicidal, but distressed, could have very easily used the supplied restraints and plastic bag to do herself in if she would have chosen to.

Insofar as someone being on suicide watch, if this is the case the individual needs to be properly evaluated and watched by a MH professional, not an officer of the law. I think that the majority of those who are charged with a crime do suffer from some sort of situational depression, but very few would actually be suicidal.

No individual should ever be given the opportunity to commit suicide. The very fact that someone is "really" suicidal shows that they are not in a proper state of mind to make rational decisions for themselves and should receive professional assistance before being allowed to participate in any court proceedings.

Sure we want individuals to pay for the crimes committed, but do we want someone to go into court where they are unable to participate in a legal proceeding? This is not saying that because you may have received a diagnosis that you cannot participate, but instead that there is a point of reference to clarity and then there is a point of reference to delusional thinking.

I agree let him kill himself - he was worse than coward for killing his own children and wife. Now he wants people to feel sorry for him and did you see who is respresenting him: Scott Rosenblum - yeah the attorney who got the DRUNK DUI KILLER LEONARD LITTLE off. So my opinion of him is already tainted.

What I don't understand is if your that unhappy with life why not walk away - why kill innocent children and the spouse, then have the nerve to plead NOT GUILTY. If he wasn't guilty then why fight going back to Illinois.

I say let her Dad, Brother and uncles have 20 minutes alone in the cell - that would definetly save some tax dollars!

Even though most of us would like to see Vaughn fried by the end of July it won't happen for at least 10 to 15 years. This scumbag doesn't deserve another breath so if he can kill himself very slowly and with a lot of pain please do so and save the taxpayers around $30,000 per year. We have an overcrowded prison system because of wusses like George Ryan (prior IL governor) that didn't like the death penalty. An eye for an eye in 1st degree murder convictions and some 2nd degree when it's a plea. Remove the filth now.

Well on one hand,It's sickening that they'd rather keep this sub-nonhumanoid sub-seweage alive instead of doing society a favor! But then again, suicide by hanging's not PAINFUL ENOUGH!Make it last at LEAST a MONTH!

And please asmerelda, stop asking god for forgiveness when you're NOT doing anything wrong!I mean, what is so horrible&evil about hating sub-sludge like these sociopaths? It's god who has alot of nerve mouthing off like he knows it all while sitting in his fat, lazy, uncaring @ss on his high&mighty throne when WE'RE the ones living with this s[sic]!This monster has caused all this hatred&evil by refusing to keep these moms&kids alive like Buttafouco, spitting on those like that murdered Ohio mom who was returning to this INGRATE a few weeks before she's murdered anyway, ect.!Just do us a favor god,and DROP DEAD!!!

I figure if he wants to kill himself, let him go for it! Hopefully he'll get the job done and not end up just injured so that more tax dollars are spent on his medical care...which brings up a question: Why is it that people in jail or prison get all this medical care? I'm an honest, law-abiding citizen who cannot afford health insurance. I guess if I get sick, I'll have to get myself thrown in jail so I can get help! Sheesh!

Tough call for me.

On one hand I don't think the death of this horrid beast by his own hand would be all that bad a thing.

On the other hand, I believe in justice.

This is a dumb question!!! The way our system works is innocent till proven guilty..NOT GUILTY TILL PROVEN INNOCENT...As far as suicide goes he has not been convicted of anything yet just charged and the media and the cops need to shutup about the case until the facts come out if your going to lynch him in the media then where is that fair and maybe thats why hes on suicide watch because he knows he is not going to get a fair trial..

And looking at him I don't think he has suicide in him..It takes an awful lot of guts to kill yourself and I don't think hes capable..According to the author of this blog he should not even go to trial but should be allowed to kill himself...Thats why the media needs a gag..

If he was going to kill himself he would'nt be telling people that..Most people that kill themselves don't tell people then do it..They just do it...He is seeking something probably wants the media to layoff its not even been to court yet so all these judegments are foolish he deserves the same rights as anybody which is innocent till proven guilty..Don't worry if he is guilty he will swing but lay off the guy no wonder Murdoch is selling.. This is the only channel still going on about this guy..

Did he ever say why he did it??

Is he holding out for 'movie of the month'..

All I hear about is suicide watch, didn't want to be extradited back to Illinois, et al.

If he didn't want his family anymore, he should have walked away, gotten a divorce, gone on with his life.

Instead he took the lives of his innocent children and his wife..

Taking his own life would be too good for him..Turn him loose in gen-pop, and see what happens to him..

marmee54,None of us including the media know the facts of the case he has plead not guilty..This is what the media does puts thoughts and ideas into the publics head..In this country you are presumed innocent until proof'n guilty...The media in this country is famous for misleading information...They need to let the people that defend and prosucute do there jobs. And the media needs to report with unbias opinion..

Mike..very true, unfortunately, the news media runs amok and we listen without regard to what is actually the truth..

I, for one, would rather hear more good news..Instead of murders, and pedophiles, and rapists..puppy mills, et al

One of the reasons I watch Fox2, is Tim Ezell, always has something entertaining going on, Its good to laugh and have fun with his antics..

News shouldn't always be about the bad stuff...

Great points by MIKE-FROM-IL,because on one hand while it's awfully odd that he's only slighly injured while the others die much like that case years back in Boston,Mass.,but then AGAIN because none of us or anyone actually SAW it...meaning what if...the only exception's something like that husband&wife raping-murdering team[Deena Davis]where sinse they're red handed on tape,HOW could they be innocent?!

But one thing I don't get:How are you innocent until proven guilty when you have to stay locked in a cage called a jail UNTIL proven innocent if you're "guilty"of being too poor to make bail?!Check out my 2'nd blogg for my better idea:Same house-arrest as Sam Shelton with enough freedom to do you're chores while restricted enough to monitor just in case you try anything.

Madbear, I understand your skeptisium however we don't know the whole truth..We know what the dead ladys parents and friends say..But we don't know them anymore then the accused so we have to wait until the trial and then as Paul Harvey would say(we will know the rest of the story)The problem with fox is there newscast is to long they only need a 1 hour program period a half hour at 5 and a half hour at 6 they don't have a proper format so they fill it in with garbage just my opinion..And way too many personalitys..

I anchor the 6 p.m. newscast and love being a part of the Fox 2 News Team. When I'm not anchoring the news, I'm trying to keep up with my two teenaged sons. (All the warnings about teenagers are true!) Just kidding, boys! I feel very fortunate to have such great kids... including my two step-daughters. My wonderful husband, who's also in the biz, is extremely talented and supportive of everything I do. I'm a huge animal lover. I have two dogs, a horse and a cockatiel. But, as a kid my pets included rabbits, goats, a racoon and a skunk! (I grew up in the Ozarks). I've traveled quite a bit, met with some famous celebrities and even been to a goat roping or two, so we have lots to blog about!
