So another weekend of baseball travel is over. Don't get me wrong, I love to watch my sons play, but three days in Kansas/Alabama/Tennessee/Mississippi (pick one) can get a little old.    Living out of a suitcase at the local Holiday Inn is a lot of fun when your 14 and a dozen of your teammates and friends are there (not to mention the softball teams staying at the hotel)   but what about the parents? Finding fields in strange towns, eating all your meals at fast food restaurants, washing uniforms at 75 cents a pop at the end of the hall after waiting hours for an open machine...  can be a tiring challenge. On the other hand, it certainly does offer the opportunity for quality bonding time with the kids!   But when you have four hours to kill between games, and you're in Cordova, Tennessee, what do you do?   Read? Write? Work sudoku puzzles? I'd love to hear some of your sports travel success/horror stories!

Sandy, I was on a traveling team back in the 80's so they called it. I was the goalie for 16 years for a soccer team Called Dr. Pepper. We traveled to Co, Ka, Ci, Texas, Ark, Georgia, etc. Plus, my oldes brother was on the high school track team. So between our travels and my brothers track meet and state champs it is hard. The Co. trip was 2 weeks tourney. I have coached my oldes sons soccer team for 4 years, so I know what you mean about traveling. You spend more money for the tourney's that you never get a family vacation in anymore. The best travel was a Cin trip when My mom came along. My dad was in Springfield with my brother for a state meet. We rode up with our neighbors in a little Wennibagel camper. The best part of it was that camper was full with all the parents singing polkas. It was a great year. We did come in 2nd place that tourney I believe.

My daughter isn't in sports, but we have the same problems with marching band competitions and state pageants. With the band, they might perform early in the day, so our only option is to stay and watch the other bands while we chaperone. Sitting on the bleachers for that long is awful! With the pageants, once we get her there and turn her over to them, my husband and I always look at each other with a "now what" expression. There's not enough time to sightsee in between the dinner/parent's meeting/pageant shows, so most of it is spent twiddling our thumbs. My husband doesn't have a problem with falling asleep in front of the TV in the hotel room, but I have to be busy doing something or going somewhere.

I anchor the 6 p.m. newscast and love being a part of the Fox 2 News Team. When I'm not anchoring the news, I'm trying to keep up with my two teenaged sons. (All the warnings about teenagers are true!) Just kidding, boys! I feel very fortunate to have such great kids... including my two step-daughters. My wonderful husband, who's also in the biz, is extremely talented and supportive of everything I do. I'm a huge animal lover. I have two dogs, a horse and a cockatiel. But, as a kid my pets included rabbits, goats, a racoon and a skunk! (I grew up in the Ozarks). I've traveled quite a bit, met with some famous celebrities and even been to a goat roping or two, so we have lots to blog about!
