SandyMiller's Blog

Everything in my yard and garden looks so wilted! Flowers are drooping, leaves are curled up, that spring freeze sure did a number on all of the outdoor plants, I feel for the farmers. So do I prune back everything, fertilize like crazy or just hope for the best? Will everything come back? My dogwood looks like dogpoop (can you say that on a blog?)  Does anyone have good advice for a weekend gardner like me? (I would ask Dave & Janice Murray, but they're still not back from vacation and I'm sure the foliage in Hawaii is fine!) Is there a silver lining to all of this...fewer summer bugs, better air for all of us who suffer from allergies?

I thought she was talking about me Mr_wildflower LOL.I am not pruning anything until I see what happens in a month or so.I have so many bushes that are brown on top but green on bottom.Alot of the stuff will come back out.It is just a wait and see situation. But sure does look nasty.

I heard that we should wait....don't prune anything yet. It may take a few weeks, but new growth will push out the leaves that were killed in the frost.
If the annuals weren't covered, they're going to need to be replaced. Perennials will be all right, but slow to leaf out again.
Everything should be all right with time!!!LOL
I was fortunate to get everything covered except my Japanaese maple...poor baby, it looks so bedraggled.

Supposedly there'll be fewer bugs....HAH!!

Good luck with your gardening.

I finally was able to find some good blackberry bushes and they caught the frost.....a little peaked, but I think my "crop" will pull through! I really hope so. Oh, the rabbits ate my sunflowers!

I anchor the 6 p.m. newscast and love being a part of the Fox 2 News Team. When I'm not anchoring the news, I'm trying to keep up with my two teenaged sons. (All the warnings about teenagers are true!) Just kidding, boys! I feel very fortunate to have such great kids... including my two step-daughters. My wonderful husband, who's also in the biz, is extremely talented and supportive of everything I do. I'm a huge animal lover. I have two dogs, a horse and a cockatiel. But, as a kid my pets included rabbits, goats, a racoon and a skunk! (I grew up in the Ozarks). I've traveled quite a bit, met with some famous celebrities and even been to a goat roping or two, so we have lots to blog about!
