Im sure glad the bloggers in blog town can enjoy the blog below mine about emotions (very news worthy), chocolate and allergies, but Im suprised you people haven't said a word about the local paramedic who was shot while giving care to two shooting victims lastnight and then became a victim himself.  We as public servants have a very dangerous job. It is such a tragic event, expecially during EMS Week. All this week, appreciation is given to those in the medical field, (EMT/Paramedic/Doctors/Nurses/Etc.). I think many of the local citizens take the services for granted. It is truly noted while responding to calls or transporting the sick/injured to the hospital and people do not obey laws for moving and yielding to emergency vehicles.

Again, my message got off topic, as it was truly about the Paramedic who was treating a shooting victim and became a victim himself as he and his partner inside their ambulance came under fire from someone outside of the ambulance. My thoughts and prayers are with him, his partner and to his collegues. I hope he may quickly recover and resume his duties as a Paramedic.

I'd also like the local media to get our titles correctly. I do not know of any municipality or community who hires "Ambulance Drivers". Those in ambulances in the St. Louis area are licensed as EMT's and Paramedics. Please give credit where it is needed.

I know a lot of communities have Ambulance Drivers - these men/women are not certified as Paramedics. An EMT is usually the driver while the Paramedics does his/her job.

Years ago the difference was the ability to start an IV - I don't know if that's changed but most of the drivers were only EMTs.

Correct. But EMT's are very capable of providing patient care and many of the medical calls, especially in the city of st. louis are at a basic level. Mostly because people call 9-1-1 for headaches, hangnails, and other non-emergency calls, not needing a paramedic to be seated in the back. Most fire departments and fire districts have 2 paramedics on an ambulance. The St. Louis Fire Department, Abbott, Gateway and Medstar both have 1 EMT and 1 Paramedic on the units. The private services run many 2 EMT trucks that to transfers between hospital to nursing home and vice versa, leaving the EMT and Medic truck available to run life treatening calls.

(If availiable I would like to know who hires ambulance drivers)

Again calling EMT's and Paramedics "Ambulance Drivers" is an insult to their licenses. When people weere first being transported back in the 1960's there were no ambulances, the local funeral homes tranported people to hospitals. Those individuals would be ambulance drivers.

The shooting update is that it was the EMT who was driving (due to the severity of the patient) who was struck by 2 bullets. He is new to the company he is employed by and is now listed in fair condition. Good Luck & Get Well soon.

Sad but not first time hearing of it. If these clowns will shoot at police no one else stands a chance.

The shooting is just another day in the neighborHOOD. Crazy huh? Can EMTs carry? It may be time. You may want to put meaning into the words riding shotgun? The gangs just hit a Letter Carrier(politically Correct and spelllledddd I hope). Will sanitation engineers be next? I hope not. What a world.

It's sad that anything like this would ever happen...... If public servants become collateral it's only assumable that children would get no consideration from these gunmen either......

Wildflower, children already have been hit by gang guns.

Those guys in Washington Park won't know what hit them, cos they will have the state police, US Marshalls, and any other federal agency in that town for the next year...so gang members, and drug dealers...time to move elsewhere...
