Five O'Clock is fast approaching and promotions have not been made!!!! George's attorney filed an injunction but it was shot down by the judge. George has the power to promote, BUT the city has the power to discipline if he doesn't promote.

5 O'Clock is coming..... Who will and Who won't be running the St. Louis Fire Department??

He should have thought about what Regan done to the Air Traffic Controllers. They too were government and thought the world could not function without them - well George will find out in a hurry that the Fire Department will function great without him - he should be FIRED FOR INSUBORDINATION.

I think you are right.. Fire him immediately.. In any other job, he'd been fired already.. And we should let him, or any other firefighter, police officer, whatever, hide behind the race card.

He's AA, and as one poster said, "RACE TRUMPS EVERTHING"
I was listening to Lis Brown the other day, her guest was F.I.R.E president Addington Stewart.

You want to know who authored that racially charged paper placed in City hall using the "N" word? It was F.I.R.E with the help of Liz Brown. the one hour Stewart was on her show, that flyer could have been a recap of the content of her show.
You know people, you can buy that tape of her show for 30 bucks and you would see just what I mean.

Anyone making an excuse that some test is racially biased is a racist! Why - how can the exact same test with a white person taking it and a black person taking it be biased at all? This makes me think that you ARE inferior since you are a certain color - you might be if that's your mentality level. Stop crying the race card, Chief George, take off your uniform and quit - I'm tired of the rhetoric!

This has become a pathetic joke, but unfortunately I'm not laughing.

I Pay for entry level civil service exams.
I pay for promotional exams given to civil service employees.
I'm paying taxes for the salaries of non existant fire Captains.
I pay for a competant fire chief who doesn't push his racist agenda.

So far I'm 0 for 4 with my tax dollars.
Maybe I should, instead, pay for a county address.

Can tell me how that piece of paper (test)can tell if you are AA or white - I would like to know how this is a racist issue. The issue should be: if you are stupid and fail the test then you do not qualify - if you are smart and pass the test you do qualify. Since the fire department is a team effort - I assure you I would not want an idiot working next to me that I would have to depend upon for my life. The whole problem here is when one does not get his way then he scream RACIST. It should not take too long to fire George - Air Traffic Controllers were Civil Service also and they were out over night.

All of you don't really understand.

We are talking about a system where AA Minorities which I'm one of.
has the upper hand when talking about employment. the laws were written in favor of US!
You can't discriminate against AA in hiring and especially discharging from employment.
They have this little thing going called the color of their skin that jumps right out at ya. this sociaty has been on a guilt trip when it gets into Race, religion and Sex(gender).

Who ever heard of a Fire Chief having a lawyer to go into court and ask for a stay on discipline from a job? You will probably only see that when a Minority is concern.

Ok, the gauntlet has been thrown at my feet... Time to speak.
LadyFireman, you have made several remarks about what bloggers won't do but you have made none as to what we should do. I for one am results driven... If a problem is posed I seek the solution. If a question is raised I seek the answer.

The Problem--- Fire Cheif George has failed to promote fire fighters based on a poor test score that the fire fighters say was biased against BLACK firefighter. I did not see the test so I can not and will not comment as to the content. However, as Mr M Grady stated the issue is not the test, never has been never will be. It is much bigger than the test. Firing Chief George will only serve to add to the problems. Do I believe he should be fired? Yes, do I believe that we need to address the other problems first or atleast at the same time as we fire the Chief yes. It is important to remember that this is an area that is under alot of tension and so when action is taken it needs to be taken with much care so as not to set off a cascade of other issues that can quickly become bigger than any of us can handle. Where are these tensions coming from (what are they)? Well, since its brought up so often, let's list Race. I think the biggest is Fiscal. How do we address them?
What can we do that will enable the promotion of fire fighter, the up grade of their equiptment and training of those fire fighters who may not be meeting promotion standards. Let quit fighting over the problems and working over the solution. Stlff12, ladyfirefighter, if the issue is purely the pr

Is this a black fire chief being manipulated by a now "new" black boss to submit and recommend promotions?

Or, is this a new black boss covering for the old one that said, "do these promotions" or else?

It's simple work etiquette - when asked to do a task (unless it's deemed immoral) in order to retain employment - DO IT!

The excuse of the testing being biased is the racecard and only that. No test can differentiate between a black person or a white person taking the test.

Take test (black or white) if you pass then you are in the promotion pool, if not, then should you really be a fireman? Good luck to all and thank God I don't live in your city.

if the issue is purely the promotions issue then form a training program to enable those who failed (or did not meet expectations for promotion) to meet the minimum standard for promotion. It's that simple... there will be another round of testing, another chance to move ahead. Prepare your fellow fire fighters don't complain about the injustice.

I have many ideas if you need them and would be willing to share if you're willing to have an open dialog with out mudslinging.

The Issue is this: If Chief George Promotes those whom made this list as it stands, those who George is trying to protect Members of F.I.R.E will be out in the cold(no promotion of upper rank) for Minimum of 15 years.
As I stated in other Blogs its about JOBS and AA's getting those plum jobs.
Its about MONEY!!!

Now as for as the new Public safety Director.
He is and was placed in the position by the mayor to take the heat Political(The Firing of George or Discipline) Its easier for a white mayor to have a Black man tarred and Feather in the public by another Black man.

And Last the city of St. Louis has saved LOTS of money with no promotion to the higher rank.
Not only in salary but pension bene's.
Which I do believe that the city as we speak is in arrears both with the police and FD?

I'm not sure most people understand that this city has a small number of potential candidates for city employment(job pool)when they open the gates to everyone to take the entrance examine the stipulation is they must if Hired move into the city if not a residence already.
if you and other pay attention the crime rate in the city is very high the school system is in the toilet.(do you want your kids going to a city school)? the other aspect is the city a long time ago sign a consent decree that 50% of firefighters had to be minorities.
I have been told by old timers that this fight has been going on since the early 70's
is it going to stop No! why because the AA community has this little thing going we can get what we want without working for it(not all but enough)Squeaky wheels get the lube.

This is why it will take the people to change this problem and most people don't have the stomach to raise the question that AA need to change their tactic and stop using their color for advancement.

This CFD Fire Chief believes that because of his experience and according to Charter? he is the appointing authority? this is a misnomer!!!
The Director of personnel is the appointing authority. The Fire Chief ask the Director of Personnel to test and eliminate prospective candidates for the fire service. its the Job of the Fire Chief to take said people and train them in the fire service updating their training as needed.
That Georges Job!!! he may say differant but that would be a LIE!!!
George has one allegiance IMHO and that to F.I.R.E and this will be his downfall.

Im a local Firefighter, who has grown up in St. Louis. I lived and worked in the city for a number of years. I love to do just about anything, especially helping others. I work hard, don't get paid the best, but I get food on the table. It's about helping the fellow person. And I fight for equality of the majority.
