Should people who are either arrested or reported for animal abuse be allowed to own animals again?

My personal thoughts are these... NO! With a capital N-O! Animals have no voices we are all they have, so we must speak out for them just as human babies have no voices. We hear them by their actions. Because a tear doesn't fall doesn't mean a person is not in pain.  Only we can change abuse, we the people who CARE. And if we allow those who abuse and afflict unnecessary pain upon our animals by not reporting it, wouldn't you agree, we are an accessory to the crime committed? Yep for sure..

Animal abuse should be consistent with child abuse laws. A person that abuses an animal is pure scum and should have the book thrown at them.

I agree... And for starters every book in The United States Library of Congress in Washington D.C. should be literately thrown.

just like sex offenders animal abusers should be jailed and put on a list for the rest of their life to never be allowed to own an animal or be around them...

I agree if you cant take care of one pet you should never be allowed another. (feel the same about kids and babies) You had your chance and you failed.

How would you ever keep track of them all? You can get a dog or cat anywhere and never register it. Especially in rural areas. People still give away kittens and puppies out in front of the Walmart in Warrenton. No questions asked just take one.

You would need a enforced law to make it illegal to give away or sell animals without a background check and being registered.

We need strict laws that require a license to own an animal. Also a limit to how many they can own.

If people would step forward and speak up on behalf of what laws should be passed for our littles ones, maybe, just maybe things will change. And if people want more than, just save ten animals, they should be made to register all those animals and be given a set of rules. Like how clean and how often fed and so on when it comes down to owning multi animals. And as for as those who sell animals, I agree, they should have to have certain papers that state they can freely sell those animals and those who buy them should have to register as well. Anyone with an animal or animals unregister should have to pay healthy fines and placed on a list. It is so down right ignorant how people are allowed by the law to get away with some of the hideous crimes committed against animals and children.

I agree that animal abuse should have harsh penalties....... Sometimes it does.... I think back 20 years ago when a little girl would tease a german shepard that was tied up on a chain and throw things at the dog..... Then one day the dog was off the chain and saw the girl and bit her.... The dog was put to sleep and the owner was sued for a large amount of money...... Both the owner and the girl got what they had coming for abusing that dog..... The only innocent one in this scenario paid with his life..... I also believe that no animal should be chained.......

I SO AGREE. Take a moment, what if animals ruled the world. Pit bulls ran the White House and your locals officers where snappy little Chihuahuas, News reporters where Jack Russell Terriers and so on. Now imagine a big 150 pound Rottweiler owned two twelve year boys who didn't do their home work because no one cared enough to show them how. So the Rottweiler decided to bite them for ever grade under an A. Would it be fair? And would those snappy law enforcing Chihuahuas come to the rescue? The moral of this blog is, animals should not be treated like bad meat. If you love something you don't treat it like bad or harsh. Chaining an animal can be harmful. Unless you are with that animal at the time. They are unable to defend themselves in a crisis if they are left alone chained up and for that matter, they are no good for your protection. I feel there are other ways to confine an animal besides chains. And as far as people who tease animals, there should be laws that protect animals in this event. If you tease an animal and that animal get a loose and attack you, you should be fined, not the owner nor the animal.

the Laws for owners duties, cruel tratment, and aggravated cruelty, and animal torture are sound, in Illinois, 1/2 the problem is getting police, prosecutors, and judges to take prosecuting animal crimes seriously, especially since animals are considered propety. like I said to another blogger, there was a man and his wife they owned 2 rotts a boy and a girl, the man chained them to a fence with a6" to the chain, everyday he threw baseballs at them and beat them on a daily basis with a woofle ball bat, when we found them the boy rott was dead he tried to escape by chewing threw the fence we found him dead hanging halfway through the hole he chewed in the fence, the girl was near death so emaciated she couldn't even stand she started having a heat stroke on the way back to shelter, you could see every rib every welt, she survived and eventually adopted out , but she'll never be able to pley ball or be around men again, when the man was arrested and brought before the judge, the judge said why are we here they're just dogs. I have even seen animal control officers look the other way especially if the people are their friends. only in the last 3-5 yrs have police even started training on animal laws and what to look for to make an arrest. I heard one prosecutor bluntly tell an officer he was not going to waste his time on some dumb animal case, he had more important things to do. The case involved a 15yr old boy torturing a cat to death. and I'm not saying there all like that madison county ILL has a good track record for prosecuting,

OMG i hate people that abuses animals. THAT is just plan wrong.

THere is this guy on my street who abuses his dog. I mean hit's it and all kinds of stuff. I dont know who to call for that the Police or what. He Chains it up all the Time you can hear the poor little dog scream. And when i walk by his house i dont see no food and water bowl. Sometimes he takes the dog for a walk and when they walk by my house i pet it. Like 2 days ago they walked by my house and i petted his dog and the dog was like jumping on me. So the guy was like get off of her or i'll beat you to death. I said under my breath don't do that. But I think the dog is a German Sheppard. And the dogs name is Zeus. I want to go over there at midnight some night and steal the dog. It's a real friendly dog.

stlchamps06,
So have you called the Humane society or anyone about the dog being abused??? If not, here is a number 314-647-4400. This is the Animal Abuse Hotline. You can tell them where he lives and they WILL go by there to check things out. You will not be mentioned in any way. If you truely hate what is being done to this dog, this is your chance to help it. If we do not report these things then there is no way for an animal to get help from being abused.

An animal living in a shelter is better than an animal living in an abusive home.
We are their second chance!!
Always make the call to help an abused animal.

I just want to send a HEART FILLED THANKS to all of you for your concerns toward our animals. People that care give hope for those being abused. A hope that someone will rescue them and like one blogger said "An animal living in a shelter is better than an animal living in an abusive home" with idiots who don't care. THANKS BLOGGERS AND BLOGGETS XOXOXO

I'm SANO THE CAT created to help remind children to just SA-NO to crimes and to promote safety for our animals as well. I am also someone trying to live life before life is all gone. Love people, animals and fried chicken, sweet potatoes and trees. But I don't like to eat trees, but with the high cost of things these days, I'm not sure... These trees around here might make a tasty soup.
