Why does it take the threat of OFF Shore Drilling, decreased gas usage and the investors selling off there oil and gas holdings to bring the price of oil and gas down? What happened to oil going to $200 a barrel and gas to $6.00?
Do oil company's realy want off shore drilling?Iguess if they did they would start drilling now on the millions or acre's of already leased oil feilds they have!
Why hasen't the US looked into getting oil from our South American neighbor's such as Venezuala.China has been talking to africa for oil rather the saudi oil.
Is it because the oil company's are using the old hand trick? They use the left hand to sell to the right hand at a large profit. Then the right hand sells to the it's intermediate company at higher profits .Then to the end user's at another profit. Why do u think the oil companie's made so much profit even with the price of oil being so high.Isn't it suppose to be the reverse?
Don't think with this drop in prices it's all better. We need to make changes now.We only have moved into the EYE of the Storm. We need to prepare for the back end to hit us!
What do u think?

Obviously Rosie, you'be been drinking too much kool-aid from the DNC's talking points and it gives you fuzzy-headed logic.

The reason the oilcos are not drilling on blocks already leased is due to reprocessing of seismic data and receiving an indication that the prospect is not as good as it was once thought to be. Or, having leased six or so contiguous blocks (a formation) and having drilled a couple of dry holes they've decided not to waste more money drilling dry holes on the rest of the blocks.

I don't know where you've been hiding, but we do get some oil from Venezuela, however the pizza-faced dictator that runs the show has withdrawn his oil from the US market.

And yes, it does change hands several times between the well and the pump because the oilcos are not a self-contained supply chain.

My dear ChickenKiller! Are u aware that Puerto Rico is talking to venezuela about this very issue. Are they not part of the US.It sounds like u have a degree in geology and can interpret seismic data.A lot of data can be skewed.Do you believe in everything u read and information given.{Look at Iraq!}I guess u believe in the tooth fairy to.

McCain is using the off shore drilling card in his ad saying Obama is against it. Fact of the matter is,they estimate all of the off shore oil would only be a 16 month supply. Hardly a fix for the middle east control of our pocket books.

HELLO!! People wake up! It is the political year. This happens all the time! I put up a blog a while ago about political manipulation.

Our economy suffers every time we have to vote in a new president. Demo's want to make Repubs look bad and vice versa!

Things will fall back into place soon. While the American Citizen panics about the economy, the politicians continue to play their game and laugh all the way to the bank....

Sit back and relax, things are already starting to push forward. Just remember to have a hefty savings account four years from now! LOL

Yes, the Oil companies have mineral rights on lots of ground. But, just because they own the mineral rights doesn't mean that there's oil there, or that it is cost effective to extract it if it is there. And, the 16 month worth of oil is only true if that were our only source of oil, which it's not. It would simply augment the existing supply.

I agree with Obama (and McCain) that we need to aggressively look for alternatives to oil. But, also remember that only about two thirds of every barrel of oil goes to gasoline and diesel fuel. So, even if we convert all cars and trucks to some alternative fuel, we'd still need a fair amount of crude oil.

Rosie, you go girl!

DNC talking points, indeed. Bush and his ultra-right-wing Republican friends could say the Earth is flat and chickenkiller would believe it. Those on the far right are so out-of-touch as to be impossible to reason with, so why bother?

But most of us here get it. It's as obvious as the sky is blue. Most of the comments are right on - mrsdad has it right - the oil companies almost destroyed our economy, and learned that's as high as they can take gas prices. They now know the upper limit of what we'll pay in the summer.

And they must rape us for more profits now before they may face an unfriendly Administration and Congress who may make them actually pay their fair share of taxes again on their profits, and may not cave in to their every demand. So they must rape us while their close friend and business associate Bush is in there.

Remember, we still have Labor Day to go. They say world oil prices cause our high prices. Well, yeah, somewhat - but how will that explain the coming price spike for Labor Day? We all know it will go up, "coincidentally" of course, just before the holiday, regardless of world oil prices.

Here's another logic buster for the pro-oil conservatives. If we are so dependent on foreign oil, and need so badly to drill for more here, then why does every storm and hurricane approaching the Gulf mean more rising prices because of the "disruption" in supplies? Disruption of what supplies? They say with one breath we don't make enough of our own oil, then in the next breath say we make enough that shutting it down h

...then in the next breath say we make enough that shutting it down has a major effect on our prices. Double-speak, if I've ever heard it.

The oil companies do what they want and make huge profits because we let them. They should be treated like a monopoly, and regulated and subsidized as such. But that won't happen anytime soon in today's political climate.

And I agree Mancillas, that after the election things will get better. Well, that is, if we make the "right" decision this fall, and DON'T elect the candidate of the right.

If we elect "More Of The Same Pain McCain", however, we'll suffer four more years of this. Can our middle-class economy survive that?

Rosie, Puerto Rico is not part of the United States. It is a United States possession, but, it has an independent government. They only depend on the United States for their welfare money.

I just recently attended a town hall meeting that my congressman held...here are some of the things going on with the oil debacle: First of all, there are 40 congress reps holding up progress and price stability of crude oil and other forms of energy. Most of those holding up the progress happen to be Democrats. The majority of those in Congress are ready to listen to the constituents, and do something to bring the prices down. The biggest culprit in holding back progress is House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. By the way, she is facing a political battle with a very angry Cindy Sheehan, who wants her seat badly! That is one of the main reasons why Nancy Pelosi shut Congress down quickly to take a vacation. Pelosi is in a state of panic! By the way, don't be surprised in November if you hear that Pelosi has lost her seat; Sheehan will likely take away enough votes to get the Republican opponent into the House, and Pelosi only has herself to blame. A number of Congressional Representatives are studying ways to make us less dependent on oil, and are doing things to help those entrepreneurs who are working on solutions to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels.

Keep a good eye on what your representatives are doing...if you all do some careful research, you'll know if you're in good hands, or being duped. Last thing anyone needs is a Slick Willy!

I believe the oil companys are beginning to see&feel the reprocussion of these price increases. It's true the commodities market has caused a lot of speculation increases, but i beleive the oil companies were also trying to see how much they could get away with in price increases before anyone said this is enough!A few days ago the president of Shell oil was interviewed. He was asked about the more than 29billion in profit and asked what could be done about oil use.One of his remarks was we should all drive slower, and not accelerate to fast from the start to conserve gas.He did say all of the profits are being reinvested.Im sure most of the ex of theis oil company's are not just making $200,000. a year.Y don't the oil company's give a little back by way of less gas prices.Maybe im wrong,Id like to make 29billion and then put it back into my own pocket.

ALL
Price of local gas here is $3.40 per gallon. Diesel is still over $4.00. Dropped some 30 cents in a matter of 2 weeks. Oil on the market is dropping also.
Reason?
Probably due to our refusal to buy the d... stuff at inflated prices. Drive less, car pool, and the demand at the pump goes down. Supply and Demand. Add to that the influence of the jawboning on the MSM about oil specululation, CEO wages, ad nauseum and oil prices are impacted.
Solution?
Drill ye terriors Drill, as the song goes. Note Mr T. Bone Pickets ad. Strong on solution, probably weak on premise. At least, one individual is putting his money where his mouth is. We could all take a note from a successful entreprenuer. Conservation, simple things like shutting down unused room AC, lights, and weather proofing doors will help. We all can do a little and this adds up.
My Opine.
The Oil Crisis, small ones and large ones, will be the driver for our economy for years to come. We have Oil and the By Products so ingrained in our system, that a minor fluctuation causes seriour nerve pain across the board. It is time we take a serious look at the way we use the oil, not just the automobile side, but all uses.
