I've never been on a train, but driving long distances in a car is the pits and flying in a plane is a down right pain in the butt.

When the kids were young (their grown and out of the house now) we took the train to Chicago several times. Really enjoyed it. Although it's a long trip (it takes longer than driving), you can get up and move around.

Would love to one of these days. Guilty of flying everywhere. (Hard to "wait") Must...slow...down...

I have taken train trips but not in the midwest yet. Surely on my list of things to do.

I took Amtrak from Washington, Mo to Kansas City Mo last June..to go to a concert. It was great!

I upgraded to business..roomier.. and relaxing.. There were a few long waits because freight trains had priority. I left and arrived on time. It took just a little longer coming home but I wasn't finished with my book and could have stayed on the train a few hours longer.

I also had my laptop so I was able to work on my pics on the way back. I'd do it again.

Hi kurkel! Doing great thank you! I took full advantage the the beautiful day we had. I went skateboarding and played with Blue. Zipped around on my motorcycle. Did some garden maintanence, which is when I do most of my thinking as I get in tune with nature. Keeps me grounded (literaly LOL), its spiritualy enlightening for me. How are you all doing? I bet you did something deep on such a beautiful day. Do tell!

I think its a great idea, but WHY is it every bit as expensive as flying? I would use the train much more often if it weren't cost prohibitive. If i'm going to pay that price, i might as well fly and have the extra time at my location. IMO.

I went to a Baptist high school, so no dancing at the prom! We went to a nice dinner instead.

When I was a junior and we threw the party for the seniors, we arranged to take the train about two hours north of town and eat at a really cool restaurant. It was funny to see us walking in our prom attire the three blocks to the restaurant from the train station! (It was a small town where we ended up.)

We had a great time! We all loved the train ride. I think we took up the whole car! (We were a small school ... only 27 in my graduating class!)

Hey Rosie! Your kids in Hermann could take the train like we did! They could go to Kirkwood ...

... there are lots of great places to eat there!
