Here in the newsroom we are deep into planning for Pope Benedict's visit to DC and the US in April. Big events planned at The National's new ball park, parade through DC and other secret stuff they can't tell us yet.

Back 13 years ago, I followed John Paul II on one of his US trips. A reporter, field producer and I trailed him from Newark to Giant's Stadium to Central Park to Camden Yards.  Raised a Catholic it was a moving experience for me to see the thousands of people related to this man, barely being able to understand what he was saying.

It was aan amazing experinece and I wonder if the current Pope can even get close to the charisma of JP II.  I am planning on doing some field reporting for the web during his visit.  I'll have to see how 13 years later this outpouring of faith moves this fallen Catholic.

Giant's Stadium-I'm sure he is blessing me!

Outside Giant's Stadium before the downpour!

With field producer Christi Day.

Pope John Paul knew Hebrew. I believe the executed secular Sadaam Hussein visited the Pope. I believe the Pope represents the majority faith of the Western Hemisphere. I prefer the Pope's Bible. It's the original Christian Bible. I learned all this about Christianity when I took Music Appreciation in 1998. The kids who took Music History told me I should see Music Ed through the textbooks they used. Same thing only more detailed.

In 1993 The Pope embraced one of my favorite scientists, Galileo, as a "good" Catholic, which he was. I hope they also do Mia Culpa about Bruno too. After all, it wasn't until 2002 that Israel embraced the great Jewish philosopher, Baruch/Enedictus/Barack Spinoza, who died from glass poisonig polishing the lens of Galileo's telescopes. Faith is just that. It's changing to be more scientific now. Merging with the Periodic Table of Elements. Hope the Pope leads the way with his Western Hemisphere flock.

I forgot to plead for this from the news media and the Pope. Please, please educate Protestants that they don't have all the Christian information that Jesus and Paul and the Apostles had. The Protestants are not homeschooling with the scientifically correct 0CE faith intelligence. It makes a huge faith and science difference and even how one looks at terrorism and the Koran and raises a military intelligence. I've only discovered all this since the 1980's when I embraced Galileo and the Torah Scrolls at the same time as my best friends, before I ever got my first dog.

Perhaps, being a Baptist, I just don't have the proper understanding of all of this. I hope I don't offend anyone, that is not my intention, but I just don't get it. The Pope is an important man in the catholic faith, I get that. He is, however, just a man. People are acting like Christ himself is coming to town.

Catholicism is a dangerous cult. This pope is on record as saying that only Catholics will be in heaven, that all other religions, including other Christian religions, are condemmed to hell. Catholic adoration of the pope and of Mary is only worship disguised as excitement. Catholicism has nothing to do with genuine Christianity and faith in Jesus Christ.

I love Fox 5 and watch it every morning mon-fri and every night but....this whole pope festival is very offensive. "The Holiness", "Holy Father"? Seriously? The only Holy Father I know of is God. Why would people worship a man that was picked by a man? "he represents Christ on earth", "he's the closest i'll ever get to God." Those are ridiculous comments made by people fox interviewed because then those people are saying that Christ died for no reason? Isnt Jesus the bridge between us and God? People should pick up the Good Book for themselves and not just have it read to them on Sundays. Does God not say "do not worship idols"? Isn't holding festivities and building pope chairs and acting like you won the lottery because you get to see this man worshipping idols? Would the pope die for you and for your sins? I think not. Fox 5, you are really offending people with these titles for this man. God bless everyone! "Father forgive them for they know not what they do"

I'm Rich Murphy, the Senior Web Producer for myfoxdc.com.I've done just about every job in a TV newsroom on my way to this new position of Senior Web Producer. For 15 years, starting in 1984, I carried a video camera on my shoulder and around the world. Most of my career has been spent in Tampa with a 3 year stint from 87-89 in Charlotte. Moving up the ranks from editor to photojournalist allowed me to experience things most people only get to watch on TV. I have tried to take that experience through my stints as Chief Photojournalist, Assignment Editor, Field Producer, Reporter, Executive Producer of Special Projects and Managing Editor to contribute to news coverage that resonates with viewers. I have covered big events like the San Francisco Earthquake, Hurricane Andrew, Presidential Campaigns, Political Conventions, Woodstock (the 20th anniversary, not the original!) Johnny Carson's last week on TV and roamed the sidelines for Buccaneers and Gator games. But meeting the people affected by the news has always been the best part of the job. I have always felt being exposed to all the triumphs and tragedies of people helps me better understand the type of genuine stories that viewers respond to. I believe the web is where people will be going to get the news that connects to their lives, on their schedule. We hope myfoxdc.com will be your first stop as you look for those stories.
