Took my first fireworks pics the other day so I thought I would give lightning a try. I got one decent shot and one great one.

Here is the full version of the second shot. That's me on the left side after triggering my camera with a remote. I'm a dark guy just like this silhouette here, lol.

nice photo, Its hard to get a good lightning shot. That lightning looks a little close to be out there standing like that. check out my lightning photo if you want its under my photos on here.

That looked like hard work to get one cloud to cloud strike. Tyler, refer to your camera manual and see what you have to do to take pictures of fireworks. That is the technique I used. Slow shutter speed and a tripod among other things. I guarentee you will get good lightning shots when you use the fireworks method. One warning. Don't shoot approaching storms. Shoot storms passing at a distance or ones that have passed. Don't shoot if there is that cloud to cloud stuff going on overhead.

That storm was well passed me when I shot that picture. The strike looks a lot closer than it was. I would guess it was at least five miles away.

Yea im not sure how to take lightning photos. I got a setting on my camera that lets me take about 15 consecutive shots and thats how i got it. Its the same kind of setting that you can use during a golf swing to see all the parts of the swing.

Try the longer exposures. Works better. Just like shooting fireworks.

My first try ever was last night. Believe me, this method works.
