The Schankman Cometh

Have you seen this strange van roaming around Forest Park.  It looks like one of those old fashioned TV antennas fell off a roof and landed through the top of this white Ford Aerostar. Stranger yet, the side of the van says "zoo."

Are they looking for escaped critters? What's the deal?  Find out Friday night at 9 on Fox 2 news.

And speaking of critters, I came home the other day to be greeted by the news that we had a break in!  Turns out it wasn't a burglar... it was a SQUIRREL!

We keep a little finger bowl of cat treats on the kitchen window ledge to lure the dogs in from the yard. (They like cat treats, go figure.) And with the warm weather we left the kitchen window open about four inches, and wouldn't you know it, a squirrel chewed through the screen and ate the treats, and left. (I hope.)

So if you are trying to lure a squirrel try a cat treat.  And I guess the same thing goes for dogs too.

Any strange varmits (spellchecker says that is not a real word--- and as it turns out spellchecker says "spellchecker" is not a real word either) terrorizing you?  Inquiring minds want to know....

Oh wait... Fanny says she wants to add somthing...

Fanny:  "I just want to say if I see a squirrel going after my treats, he'd better reTREAT pretty fast, or I'll be the one having a snack!"

A couple months ago, my dad heard a strange noise in the kitchen while he was watching TV in the living room. He didn't really worry about it very much because he thought it might be the cat.
Later, he went to the kitchen and noticed the sliding screen door was open about 6 inches. They had their sliding glass door open since it was so nice outside. Well, he closed the screen figuring he or my mom had accidentally left it open.
The next night, the same thing happened.
The night after that, as soon as he heard the noise, he rushed into the kitchen and turned on the back light. There, he found a raccoon with his paw pushing the door open!!
So, for a couple nights in a row, a raccoon had been coming into their kitchen roaming around and politely letting himself back out again when he was done.
I should mention that they live in a heavily wooded area and their deck is on the second floor with no stairs leading up to it.

I've been hanging out at Fox 2 since I was a kid, and my mom used to drag me to be in the audience at The Charlotte Peters show. Now they pay me to show up. Amazing. Even more amazing, I've been here now for 23 years. I'll keep you posted on what I'm working on, offer the occassional odd thought, and since I enjoy live theater and dining out (does it show?) when I see something or eat somewhere wonderful I'll tell you about it. My two dogs might offer an occassional comment as well. (that's Luca on the left, and Fanny, the little sassy one.) Let the blogging begin! Luca says "arf."
