Hi guys,

Have you ever wondered why nuns live so long?

I have and when I started looking into it, I found out some really interesting stuff and I'll have it for you tonight (Tuesday) on fox 2 news at nine.

Gee, anyone out there have a story about being taught by a nun????

I was never taught by a nun but my brother was. She had a bad habit of smacking him on the knuckles with a ruler. My brother had polio and when my parents found out... well all hell broke lose. My brother went to public school after that.

Hey Paul, they probably live longer because they don't have a husband to deal with. LOL

Did you hear the one about the man who opened a dry-cleaning business
next door to the convent? He knocked on the door and asked the Mother
Superior if she had any dirty habits.

Probably because even Jesus is scared of them.
I was always at the back of the class. They could smack me with that ruler and I swear they did not move at all. It was whack, and I would look up and they were already back up front. Not saying I did not deserve it....
Truly though, I would not trade going to a Catholic school for anything. Some of the best times I can remember.

two nun storys
1. story told to me from family member.when we lived in south st.louis early 50's when i was little we lived close to a church.this church was having a carnival .my youngest brother took me to the carnival without letting our parents know.
needless to say my brother left me at the carnival.when my father found me i was sitting on a merry go round or something and nuns were feeding me ice cream.
i always wondered if these nuns were still alive today .i would like to meet them .
according to you .they could be still alive lol!

in early 60's 7th grade at st.joseph school in farmnington,mo my teacher was a nun.i had my hair teased .evidentally not combed good enough for her.she gave me a comb and told me to comb my hair .i told her no.finally i took her comb went to the bath room .brought back out and tossed it on her desk after i bent it or broke it
needless to say she took a paddle with holes in it about inch thick and beat my butt real good.i bet i couldnt set for about 2 months
after that. i was busty young girl also at this time and the same nun told me to start wearing a bra.i was in 7th grade and didnt even know what a bra was .lol!

I guess paddling and wacks on your hands didn't make you violent people, You seem like you turned out to be pretty good people. We need more of that in our schools.

I was repeateadly smacked on my left hand in the first grade for writing with my left hand,
I think they tought it was a bad thing then.
My dear Mother had to go and explain that all three of he sons were left handed and quit beaten the heck out of me. LOL
And I think mechany may be right , the good lord wants as much peace as possible.

God Bless

My father who is now 72 years old has had his eardrum busted becasue of a nun and her ruler..... The nuns aren't like that now. The nuns probably don't age because they aren't married and no children of their own to deal with........ Also, I have never seen a tanned nun have you? So they arent in the sun either....

Two things:

1)When I was in 7th grade I went to an all girls boarding school in Arkansas, and our Mother Superior was named Sr. Mary Declan, she limped, had a hunchback and a glass eye. When you got into trouble you had to go to her office and when you would walk in she would have all the lights off except one small lamp on her desk and she would be sitting back away from the desk so all you could see were her hands. Then after you sat there for a while squirming and almost messing in your pants she would lean forward with her face in the light and stare at you with that glass eye and ask you why you had gotten into trouble. You'd stutter and stammer and start crying and swear you'd never do it again.

2) I now work for The Religious of the Sacred Heart in St. Charles and have come to know and love these women, they are gentle, loving, highly intelligent women and I wouldn't trade my time with them or Sr. Mary Declan for anything in the world, it has made me who I am today....

I have to agree with vickilee. I was one of a few black students at St. Mary Magdalene in the 60's. The Sisters treated me like any other kid. Sure, there was discipline, but they were also the salt of the Earth. If you had any problem, any questions they were there for us.
My dad was at St. Mary's last year. The sisters helped us tremendously. I must say also, the Priests when I was in school were also great. Sure miss Father Clarence Deddens. He died saving a kid from drowning in the Meramac river. May God Bless his soul.

i went to st george in hermann for my first 8 years, i never ever seen nor did i get hit by a nun, they yelled loud though... when st george colsed their high school we had to go to hermann high, oh boy, my freshmann year was a nightmare, we were in jr high with the
7 and 8 graders, omg, the principal would come in class and beat, and i mean beat, boys with a thick wooden paddle in front of everyone, for eight years i never seen a nun hit anyone, and then when we went to public schools we were scared silly by the beating s that the principal inflicked, after i graduated i would here people talk about nuns hiting with rulers, well never seen it and that wasent a ruler that mr bowers used... so i never knew if that was just a joke or what, my freind said they never seen nuns hit anyone either, and i grew up in the 60's and 70's... idk

ok here is a story... when we were in 8 th grade, the high school kids sang a song, not in the presents of the teachers though, it went like this

they are brave, they are bold,
for the beer that they could hold,
in the cellers of good ol St George...

run, run, run, i think i hear a gun,
throw down your bottles and run,
if a nun shall apear, say, "sister have a beer",
in the cellers of good ol ST George.

I've been hanging out at Fox 2 since I was a kid, and my mom used to drag me to be in the audience at The Charlotte Peters show. Now they pay me to show up. Amazing. Even more amazing, I've been here now for 23 years. I'll keep you posted on what I'm working on, offer the occassional odd thought, and since I enjoy live theater and dining out (does it show?) when I see something or eat somewhere wonderful I'll tell you about it. My two dogs might offer an occassional comment as well. (that's Luca on the left, and Fanny, the little sassy one.) Let the blogging begin! Luca says "arf."
