OK, we know it's cold out there right now, and the blue recycle bin is out in the garage. I really don't like bringing the cold air into the house each time I put an empty soda can in the bin. So, I went out to buy another 13-gallon trash can for the kitchen (and another matching one)--but only for recycled items. And to my surprise...

I'm recycling more!

All the junk mail, newspapers I don't read, shredded docs, bottles, food boxes and smaller items are so much easier to recycle when the bin is right there in front of you! After just one day of doing this, I think 80% of my trash is going into recycling! And it keeps my house warmer :)

I believe Jay Leno or David Letterman teased about this years ago. All those junk mailings you get, take that postage paid envelope out and mail it back empty. This will give the companies a dose of their own medicine.

Speedy62269 has it right. If you don't use those postage paid envelopes they don't have to pay for them. If you do the company has to pony up the postage. Make them pay up and maybe they will stop sending "crap" mail to you.

Thank you.

We send back a lot of junk mail. I would say that it's at least 10 to 15 postage paid envelopes per week so nearly 750 per year. Now, if ALL bloggers would do this maybe junk mailings would be reduced? I wish.

Speedy if it wasn't for the Junk Mail stamps would already be around $1... Let them folk spend their money and I'll continue to send them to recycle...... I recycle newspapers anyways.....
They need to go with the nickle deposit on all plastic containers so people will quit filling up our landfills with plastic bottles......

Do a story about how rich all the recyclers are getting because they sold people a bill of goods on saving all that paper and cans.

lets see if they reduce your garbage bill or give campaign contributions to the board members in your community for giving them the contract.

Oh before any of you think that municipalities don't do that think again.

and if you don't think that a board member can take graft because of election laws then how about the recycler hires a relative that's called patronage.

Don't send that crap back!!!!!
The increase in their costs will be passed on to YOU!!!!!!!!

Where I live they charge me extra to recycle....To hell with them, it all goes in the trash now.....

Good ideal....you'd be surprised how much can be recycled. Even the used horseshoes are recycled....when i get several hundreds pounds of them...they're hauled to a metal salavage yead...so is any used tin or other metal items. Also, a lot of horseshoe art is made from them by friends....coats hooks, wine racks, etc. Lots of ways to recycle it people only take the time to do it.

nice job. I of course do something else with all the junk mail. I call the catalog companies and ask to be removed. As far as the credit card solitications, I let them stack up and then when I am watching TV, I will cut out all information in them that has my name on it, shred that, then take all the other junk they stuff in that envelope, stuff it back in, seal it and mail it back to them, the credit card company has to pay for the additional weight. I try to recycle as much as I can. I shred bills and let them stack up and use it when I send packages to friends and family.

i agree, the cans are nice (and a good idea), the floor tile is nice, heck even the doors and the walls are nice! but you need to take all of the stickers off! stickers and tags-aaarrgg. i hate them!

you recycle more...there is less trash...
there is less trash...the landfills make less money...they increase their rates to the trashman to make up the difference in less trash...do you really think the trashman eats that...UH NO...your bill WILL go up. I know this first hand. Don't think for a moment that doing ALL the recycling will lower your trash bill. The landfill charges based on weight and if there is less weight and they are not making money...what do you think happens???
