Do you fight for the Rights of Others?  Or do you have the attitude , "as long as it doesn't effect me." ?

How many of you say you would Fight for the Right of someone who holds an opposing view from you.....and mean it?   How far would you go to protect the person on the other side of the aisle?  Even if you don't agree with them?

I just posted a blog about Fat people being discriminated against in Japan.  I received Comments I wasn't prepared for.   I was reading stats and supposed facts and opinions for the justification of the Discrimination of people because of their weight.    I thought I was reading the KKK 's website on why Blacks are inferior and why they don't deserve that same rights as Whites.    I thought It was Hitler's Mein Kampf and the reason Jews are should be gased.

When has it become acceptable to Discriminate against someone because we think they are "fat"?   Should we start to Discriminate against Ugly people and deny them the chance to Procreate because it's harmful to Children's self-estemm if they are born Ugly?   Should we Discrimintate against those that have Bloinde hair  because they don't fit into our personal views about what is intelligent or not?   What is wrong with People?

DO YOU NOT KNOW WHAT COUNTRY YOU LIVE?   Here we can be Drunk or sober, clean or dirty, skinny or fat AS LONG AS IT'S ALLOWED UNDER THE LAW.

Now with our personal choices comes personal responsibility and accountablity.   We accept the concequences of our actions.  But you don't get to tell me I have to do it because it's better for me....do you?   Are you so perfect?   Who wants to cast the first stone?  Give me a break......

Nothing wrong with having knowledge on Health and Saftey.  Telling people the consequences of their actions.   But when people are being ridiculed or looked down upon because of the shape of their body..and being forced to live a lifestyle they did not choose...or being denied employment ........just becasue someone told them it's good for them or Society.......that my friends is facism.....pure and simple....

We may not agree on how to live our lives.  We may not agree on how to eat or excersize or what color clothes to wear.   But in America.....we don't have to.....

At least that is the way it is supposed to be....

So will you fight for my Right to be Fat....while I defend your right to be Skinny?

Or should I sit on you till you give in.....?

I do not fight for the rights of others, except for my family. Sorry, I care less and less about others and only worry about myself and family. I will be completely retired soon and my tree house in the woods is already furnished and cable ready.

I am over weight but it's not because I sit on my rear all day and eat bon bons. I take several medications that do include weight gain. I walk a lot and eat healthy and stay active all the time. Heavy people aren't always heavy because they're lazy.

I agree pooks, but it seems the new enemy that the Government wants people to blame for their Healthcare is Obesity. But under the Constitution we are allowed to be Fat, Skinny, people of all shapes and sizes. I am trying to get people to understand that talking about fat or obese and thinking these people are lesser and deserve less Rights or more Blame is wrong. Am I going to have to start a National Fat American day and have parades down the Street? Fat and Proud?

Why does it appear that some people want us all to look alike, think alike and worship alike?

Pooks don't feel ashamed...for your condition ... Be Large and be Proud!...lol

Why does everyone want to Improve me? I am not a fixer upper!

Patch, I have always been physically fit. I run everyday for the past 40 years. I have played football, boxed, and practice a form of Kung Fu. I am 6'5" and 250 pounds. And quit smoking 15 years ago.
I also have Diabetes, cholestrol problems and high blood pressure. It is genetics with me. So, will the insurance companies and the government want to steralize me and my kids?
Can't happen? Seems to me a little known dude by the name of Adolph did this.

Patch I am large and proud LOL. I like myself the way I am. I have been at both ends of the scale.Too skinny and to heavy. Overall I prefer my size now. My hubby, kids, family and friends love me as I am, so what do I care what others think?

Why should fat people have any more rights than anyone else? I probably would not hire a fat person or sell them insurance or sit next to a fat guy on an airplane. I don't care if someone else does.My son weighs well over 300lbs. and I love him to death. It is uncomfortable sitting next to him on an airplane.

Yeh, it was started by an earlier group of people, who believed in 'eugentics' for a superior dvelopment of mankind, lost popularity with Hitler, but one of its organizer was Margaret Sanger who brought us Planned Parenthood. Part of her reasoning for this organization was to suppress the over population of the 'poor', uneducated, and basically BLACK people in this country. She seduced women into following her with a cry of freedom over their bodies, with no quarter given to the defenseless bodies she sought to destroy.

Fat people shouldn't have any more rights than anyone...just the same as everyone else..

I found that in this country unless someone's weight is caused by some medical Condition..you can hire/fire someone based on their weight...now how does that make sense?
If it's caused by a condition...then it's a Handicap..and they are protected

I never intended to talk about this subject..but after I posted the Blog on Japan I was suprised NOONE said it was wrong to discriminate against someone because of their weight...it is because there is a propaganda war going on against fat people..trying to blame them for the healthcare Cost....before it was Smokers and the empidemic they created...well now we tax the heck out of cigs..and smoking is banned in many places and even whole states...
So what's next taxing cheeseburgers and outlawing obese people? No eating in public??
The Government Creates "problems" then you and I are ready to accept their laws that they want in order to "fix" the "Problem"...which usually ends in someone's Liberty being taken away..
It's time to wake up and see what is happening...before they eventually get to something that effects you...They are not only trying to create a "master" Race of healthy non-smoking no cheesburger eating people...they are also slowly and with your applause trying to steal our Liberties away one by one....

I'm 6'6" tall and weigh 255 but that's down from 280 when the doctor said I was considered medically obese ... which at 255 I'm still apparently 25 lbs overweight. I used to always say that I joined the Army so I'd get paid to stay in shape... told that joke for so long it's become a fact of life.

Anywho... I was going to say go patch go for this great blog but it got fat on me and all of the sudden I had a flash of John Candy and how he never got enough credit. And on my current best friend who is really starting to worry me with his eating habits. He's my roomate here in Los Angeles and I have to admit sometimes I think about moving cause it's hard watching someone get obese. Unfortunately fighting for him means getting the silent treatment if I refuse to stop pick up a "whole mess o chocolate and snacks" which was seemingly harmless a mere 8 months ago.

Anyway I will fight for Patch to be Patch cause it's like Candy said to Martin "That's not two pillows!"

The problem that overweight people find that there are too many statistics out there to get them. Many companies will not hire overweight people because of the health proplems and sicks days that statistically they rack up. On airplanes, unfortunately we are considered "Freight" in the eyes of the airline companies. The seats are only 18 to 20 inches wide. If you need more than what they provide then you should buy a first class ticket where the seats are wider or buy another seat so that you and others will not be compramised. I weight 200 pounds myself. My best friend of 20 years weighs nearly 400 pounds so I have experienced these situations first hand. If you are overwieght, then it is your responsability to take care of the situation, not others. If you need a stronger chair or more room, then you need to acquire it by asking for it or making sure you get what you need by other means. It is really sad to say this but we live in reality and our outward appearance is something we can't ignore. I am not disrespectful in any means to my large friend. I just think we all need to think about reality on this issue. If you physically do not fit on that roller coaster ride, airplane seat or patio furniture then own up to and stop pretending that you will. No one will make fun of you if you own up toit, but 9 times out of 10 they will if you don't.

I have to agree with ralphie on this one. The problem started when we asked the government to intervene with legislation like the ADA. You can't realistically accomodate every single affliction out there.

No you can't.. The insperation to this blog was the Japan Article I posted. No one said it was wrong to tell companies that if they Hired fat people ...the Government would Fine them...that was Japan..not here.. But if somethig like that was done for not hiring Woemn, or an Ethnic Group or a Religion...people would be tripping over themselves to Yell their Outrage...but Fat people...not so much...it seems ok to think about such things..then I was making the point that if you want to live a certain way and it's legal, under the Constitution you can.. If oyu want to be fat skinny, healthy or unhealhty..or what ever...

You're right. The only criteria should be whether or not you can perform the task. If you live in an iron lung, there will be many tasks you can't perform. Sorry, that's the hand life dealt you, and it's unfortunate. But if you are the best qualified person out of a pool of candidates, and you happen to be 400 pounds, it should be irrelevant.
I'm going to have to amend what I said in my previous post. The problems REALLY started with bundling things like healthcare in with employment. Since your employer is now footing the bill for your healthcare, they have to take things in to consideration that have nothing to do with how well you perform the job. Unfortunately, that's the price you pay when you turn over control of some aspect of your life to an outside party.

I am sorry Patch. I know your point was the fact that the Government in Japan was doing this to it's citizens. It will never happen here. If you were Japanese, you might not feel that it is wrong. I know that they have alot different up-bringing. They are taught that it is okay to work like a slave and drop dead from the stress at the age of 50. Not here. They are also taught that only having 1 child per married couple is their duty to control population. Not here. They also were the same country that did the Kamikaze Flights durring Pearl Harbor. It would be hard to find a trained pilot here to do that. Not saying you couldn't, but it would be hard. Bottom line, it will never happen here. We love the TV and Food too much. Almost 50% of us would be on that list!

The skinny concept started with the ads for overweight people to go on diets to lose all that 'unwanted' fat and get skinny by buying their foods, etc., like Nutrisystem, Jenny Craig, etc. They are constantly on TV and this makes the world very weight concious. Most people don't look below the surface. If they did they might find that a person they think is skinny, wonderful, and fantastic is actually the friendly neighborhood burglar or ax murderer! You should NOT judge a book by its cover! I'll treat you like how you treat me - I don't care if you have a face like a pan of worms! Why should that make a difference?

"Do you fight for the rights of others?" Wasn't that the question?
This is not about any of you! I do not care how much you weight or how often you work out!!
What the hell is the matter with you?
Have we become this narcissistic? Really? I am SHOCKED!
Are you not spoiled rotten? Yes you are!
This entire blog is full of self gratification and self aggrandisement.
I sincerely hope those of you who believe you have the right to make judgemental statements, suffer. Yep, suffer. You are self absorbed and lacking in empathy. When it hits you that life is more than what you desire, I wish you pain.
Grow up.

"But war, in a good cause, is not the greatest evil which a nation can suffer. War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things: the decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks nothing worth a war, is worse. When a people are used as mere human instruments for firing cannon or thrusting bayonets, in the service and for the selfish purposes of a master, such war degrades a people. A war to protect other human beings against tyrannical injustice – a war to give victory to their own ideas of right and good, and which is their own war, carried on for an honest purpose by their free choice – is often the means of their regeneration. A man who has nothing which he is willing to fight for, nothing which he cares more about than he does about his personal safety, is a miserable creature who has no chance of being free, unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself. As long as justice and injustice have not terminated their ever-renewing fight for ascendancy in the affairs of mankind, human beings must be willing, when need is, to do battle for the one against the other." - John Stuart Mill
