Yesterday, I had to take Manchester from Brentwood to Hampton due to the traffic conditions.  Everything went fine until I reached the intersection with McCausland.  That has got to be the most obnoxious traffic light!

If you're on Manchester, it will let about 3 cars through before it starts to turn.  Then you wait for what seems to be an eternity before it's green again.  I guess if you're on McCausland it's great.  But for people driving on Manchester it sucks!

Instead of wasting money putting those damn cameras up everywhere, why don't they install some decent traffic lights with sensors instead of timers.  I don't like sitting there, burning $3 a gallon gasoline, when there's nobody coming from the other direction.

YES! Long light! A longer one if you go further down McCausland past Arsenal... That light right there at that park to get out of that park is even longer... CRAZZZZYYY!!!!

Maybe a little education is in order. In the past they had loop detectors in the ground. Many problems. When snow was on the ground they do not detect well. The motion detector cameras are better, but during snow/white out conditions, nothing is going to work well.

Timers were the old way. Now it is computer controlled.

With the I-64 closure all routes East and West have been optimized to allow more east bound traffic in the morning and west bound at night. This means the side streets going north/south will have to wait longer.

During a 10 - 12" snow storm that was forcast in advance, everyone should have stayed home for the day. Alot of people did. Most did not. We all sat for long periods not just due to traffic signals, but snow/ice/everything. If you venture out during storm warnings, only blame yourself if you have to sit. I did.

Playintraffic -
OK, you caught me on a rant because it had just taken me 40 minutes to travel 5 miles. I made the assumption that this particular stoplight is on a timer because you could have no traffic coming from the other direction and it still changes. In other communities, the lights are on some kind of a sensor that will keep the light green until someone approaches from the other direction. They work great, so I don't understand why St. Louis can't get it right.
Manchester does run east-west and McCausland runs north-south. It was around noon, so I'm not sure if east bound or west bound traffic would have been favored. Either way, it was only letting about 3 cars through while McCausland stayed green for an eternity.
Most of us are perfectly willing to accept that traffic will be more of a challenge during bad weather. However, we don't need things like goofy traffic signals further convoluting the effort. I may be mistaken, but aren't stop lights supposed to HELP the flow of traffic?
If you are in the fortunate situation where you can CHOOSE not to "venture out" during bad weather, good for you! Some of us were not given a choice.

You would think since Manchester is the 'bigger' stree, it would have the longer light...thats usually how it goes.
I used to have to pass there on McCausland going to St Marys when I worked there, but I guess I never noticed it from the other perspective.
