Has anyone else received a "prayer mat" in the mail?  It goes something like this:  You unfold this piece of newspaper with a picture of Jesus on it.  You kneel on it and pray for wealth.  Then you send it back with a check for x amount of dollars for "seed money" (I guess money really does grow on trees).  If you do all of this, you'll supposedly be endowed by God with a large sum of money.  Wow... how very Christian!!!

The organization who sent these out was gracious enough to send a postage paid envelope, which they'll be charged for, by weight, upon return.  I would encourage everyone to express their love of god, and the US postal system, by filling these envelopes with something nice and heavy.  Perhaps you'd like to send them money in change (pesos) rather than writing a check.  Maybe your pet would like to show their support by sending them a nice pungent little gift.  Just a suggestion.  I'm going to see if I can mail them the old piano in my basement.

Is your reaction very christian? I agree that they are wrong in trying to take money from vulnerable people, but you should respond the way Jesus would.

I don't pretend to know how Jesus would have reacted, had the modern postal system existed in his time. However, I did read in the bible how he reacted when he entered the temple and saw gambling, and all other kinds of unscrupulous activity, going on.

I got that in the mail to. All those people claiming all they did was pray on this piece of paper and they got money, new cars, perfect health or whatever.

So is God like a cosmic ATM machine now?
This is a pretty low scam if you ask me.

Remember the sunday morning tv shows that said if you bought this book or this pillow you would get a "special" blessing from God.
And all those people sent in their money.

It's like saying that God will be more than happy to help you just as soon as your check clears. Pretty sad.

I got one too. I do believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and all things are possible through Him that Believe however I do wish some of those people would give an address or a phone # you know??? I mean he Bible says "If you are ashamed of me I shall be ashsmed of you in Heaven" are they ashamed?? If that happened to me I know I would be telling everyone. Go figure.

does anyone think Jesus needs money? this kind of money scam has been around a long time. religion is satan's favorite motis opperandi.
he works well thru "religion". appeal to the emotional religious person. but a Christian who studies the Word of God, ie the Bible, knows that God is no genie in a bottle that you can rub. His love and grace is given freely to us and His blessings are real. not money grubbing pseudo "stuff" this "christian organization sending prayer rugs is not of God.

and as a side note, to even acknowledge receipt of such tripe is giving credence to their effort.

I am SO slow... I am just now seeing and responding to this blog!

As far as how Jesus would react...

I do know that he overturned the money tables and ran people out with a whip for using the disguise of the church for their own profit.

It seems that everyone thinks that WWJD is always to just nurture and love everyone in spite of the disgusting reproach they bring on His name and in trying to take advantage of the simple.

I received a mat and sent it back to them explaining that they are sinners (as we all are) and that their sins will land them in hell if they do no accept Christ and repent. Then I gave them the gospel. That's probably one thing that Jesus would do.
