I hear this term sometime and often wonder what people think it means.
Some people think that if their boss or supervisor says one word to them, it means they're being "micromanaged".

So, let me know...what do you think? Have you ever been micromanaged? Explain.

I don't think I've ever been micromanaged, but I'm also not territorial and just want to do my job to the best of my ability. I don't think I've ever had anyone breathing down my back but I'm so interested in hearing whether or not it insults you to think that someone thinks you can't do you job without constantly checking on you.

I don't know...let me know what you think.

We have all been micromanaged....It means to direct or control in a detailed, often meddlesome manner..... Havn't you ever tried to put something together or work on a project and have someone tell you how to do the entire thing...... It's "Mr Know it all" to the rescue.....

I have been micromanaged....at least they attempted to do so...but I have a strong enough personality that I just either do it my way any way....OR I tell them I can handle it and do.

Now on the other hand I have seen folks BE micromanaged that have a more passive personality and it is gen. just ridiculous. Most of the time, in my opinion ...micromanagine is not good and does not end up with a good result. You make the person who is working on the project feel inadequate....like you cant do this, so let me.
And lots of other reasons that would take a whole book to write...its not good for anyone involved.
If it is someone who cant do the job alone then work together ....
I have seen some aggressive personalities (like mine) GET micromanaged....and b/c they felt they needed to allow it (to preserve their job)...they would ....and get VERY frustrated and HATE their job.

I have been lucky not to be, I have been in HR for close to 10 years now and that is one of the questions we ask our applicants, because I have some managers who are micromangers. Micro to me means a manager who does not have enough confidence to allow someone else to do their job. This manager may not have enough to do or has never been taught that a manager needs to delegate. I treat employees as grown ups, you are here to do a job, I give you a project and a deadline, if you don't follow through then I will watch more closely the next time, but would never put myself in a situation where I am constantly watching and following up on someone, I would put them on an action plan then term them if they don't shape up.

I have been micromanaged to the point I actually had to leave the job. I really liked my boss, just could not work with him and I was the 3rd one in slightly over a year that had left.
I now have a job where if anything I am under managed, my boss feels that if he hires the right people, he doesn't need to micro manage. I get a project from the sales people, they give me a deadline and I personally like to have it finished 1 to 2 days ahead of that deadline, gives us both time to relax, take a fresh look at everything and make any changes necessary. This way were aren't going crazy at the last minute. Personally I love deadlines and I have never missed a one yet.

It's kind of funny because I am not naturally an organized person, but I have a good sense of time management

I think managers who micromanage have personal issues. I'm a free spirited individual but I manage my time quite well. Puleez, spare me the petty details!

Agreed mini , very well put!
