The Vatican released 10 Commandments for drivers on Tuesday. Here's the list.

What do you think?

Vatican's 10 Commandments for drivers:

1 -- You shall not kill.

2 -- The road shall be for you a means of communion between people and not of mortal harm.

3 -- Courtesy, uprightness and prudence will help you deal with unforeseen events.

4 -- Be charitable and help your neighbor in need, especially victims of accidents.

5 -- Cars shall not be for you an expression of power and domination, and an occasion of sin.

6 -- Charitably convince the young and not so young not to drive when they are not in a fitting condition to do so.

7 -- Support the families of accident victims.

8 -- Bring guilty motorists and their victims together, at the appropriate time, so that they can undergo the liberating experience of forgiveness.

9 -- On the road, protect the more vulnerable party.

10 -- Feel responsible toward others.

I think the Pope needs to find something to do with himself. These are all common sense things that people ignore. JMO

I agree that this is common sense and people ignore it, which is why I think it's great that the Vatican issued this document...as a reminder. At first, when I saw the headline, I kind of chuckled and rolled my eyes, but after reading this a bit, I thought wow -- this is good stuff and hope it gets around.

I hate it that people have to be told things like this. Geese fly in a nice Vee formation, but people have to have velvet ropes to get them into a theater.
I try to help people whenever possible on the road. There are of course times when I feel bad for not stopping. Accidents are one time when I say yes absolutley to stop and help. But for a breakdown, I'd say to women especially, call for assistance for someone, but don't stop. If you do, make sure your doors are locked, and windows up. Have a clear lane to drive away, for escape.
I have a friend who survived an attack on a country highway in this way. She didn't expect anything like this to happen to her. She stopped for an apparent breakdown with the hood up, and only cracked her window to what she thought was a safe amount. The knife that was stuck through her hand changed her mind. She got away and was lucky.
So why do people not have what is obviously common sense?
I'd like to see pieces of this posted on billboards around, maybe one or 2 to a board. Of course, I hate billboards that advertise. I think they clutter up my world, but I could even accept a few things like this to give people some bit of intelligence. Maybe we could cut the rest of them down?

At least now when I get cut off in traffic I will know that it's not a Catholic!!
Come on now, let's get real. As a former Catholic this all seems quite lame. Almost like the Legion of Decency requiring church members to take an oath every year that they would not watch certain movies that were "condemned".
Was this list divinly inspired? I think not. Most drivers are good people and not only follow the rules of the road....they follow their common sense.

There is nothing common about common sence..If you live anywhere near a large city you know thats true..

I think they sound good except for the one about bringing the gulity motorist & victim together. I had a girl run a red light at 70 and t-bone my car 2 weeks before x-mas and if that was not bad enough her mother came in my room at the ER and told me about about her poor daughter being the victim. Then when I was released and being wheeled out to the car I had a friend of her family threaten to kick my shattered leg.
I do agree strongly with the stopping to help. I was trapped in my car for an hour before the fire dept used the jaws of life to cut me out and the whole time I had 2 teenage boys that stayed with me until I went to the hospital. They tried everything they could think of to get my door open even after the firemen told them I would have to be cut out. Needless to say I sent them each a check to show my appreciation.

It's funny, that the Vatican or should I say the Pope, has to issue a ruling on how people should treat others on the road when driving.
It must mean that the Catholic church is not doing a vary good job in teaching its members how to be good people the rest of the time.
Odd, that people can't understand the simple idea that Christ had, that is "Love One Another as You would Love Yourself..!"
I guess the the Pope and the Catholic church is having a problem with common sense in treating others when driving.

Is this really what the Catholic Church should be focusing on right now?! I am sure that all of the families of victims of Catholic priest abuse will be thrilled to hear that the Vatican is publishing rules on how to drive instead of trying to fix the mess it is in around the world.

I can see it now . . . a driver does a good thing and the Catholic Church takes the credit. Cha-ching!

As a former Catholic[still with a few Catholic beliefs]with my mom being hard core Catholic,WAY TO GO,POPE!!!Not that there aren't things I even disagree even strongly on[like the rest of churchianity/christendom],but who said ANY branch of christianity's 100%perfect?

Also,my apologies for the un-expected "vacation",but my computer got nailed last week by a virus.Beez back!

I think it is a great idea!!

Will it work?? I don't know!

Will I at least try to follow it? Of course, just because that is the type of person I am!

As in the immortal words of Rodney King after the LA riots, "Can't we all just get along??"

I agree with you LittleBow. Didn't they teach us all that in church and sunday school? Or in school for that matter. The Pope has had some popularity problems recently especially in South America. The church must be looking for better press. However, this isn't it.
