I feel for the family of the Festus soldier killed. It's so unfortunate and I'll be glad when this war is over and our troops can come home for good. My condolences to the family.

Last December I was at the airport, sitting in one of the small bars and was waiting to board a plane to head to Tampa. My brother - 1st Lt in the Marines - would be coming through Tampa from Okinawa on his way to Qatar. I hadn't sen him for 15 months so I wa excited to get down there.

A guy in Army fatigues walked up with a big bag and a tired face and asked if the seat next to me was taken. I told him no,he sat down, and we quickly struck up a ocnversation. He told me he had just gotten back from Iraq and had two weeks of leave to visit family. I told him I was on my way to see my brother before he headed out. I bought him a beer and he pulled out a large amount of pictures he had taken from Iraq. While he was obviously tired form his journey, he was excited to talk about each of the pics and offer stories behind the photos. After downing his beer, he said he needed to head off to see if his ride was at the airport. We shook hands and he walked off.

Seeing the photo and the story on Fox today has left me stunned because the soldier I met at the airport last December was Brandon. A couple of the pics are familiar, his goal to become a police officer, and his being from Festus all were things that we talked about back then.

I met an upstanding soldier that day and am proud that I got to buy and share that first drink with him when he came back for his brief visit. My prayers are eternally with his family. I will think of you everytime I see my brother who's serving to protect us all like Brandon was.
