I saw this story and thought it was hillarious!

I wonder how many people would do this and see how ticked off Ameren would get?

I might try it!

Carterville man plans to send pennies to protest Ameren rate
increase

   CARTERVILLE, Ill. (AP) -- A southern Illinois man who's fed up
with higher Ameren electricity rates has come up with a way to pay
his bill and show his displeasure.
   Robert Hancock of Carterville says his monthly power bill jumped
nearly 200 percent -- to $526.62
   So he's going to send Ameren 52,662 pennies.
   Hancock says he's worked things out with a local bank to get the
coins and with the post office to mail the money.
   It will cost about $50 extra for postage. But Hancock
says that if he can cause Ameren a little inconvenience, it's worth
it to him.

I love it. Everyone should pay Ameren exactly the way the gentleman from Illinois did. Kudos for you!!!

My January's power bill from Ameren was $357.00, February's bill is $798.00. I guess I would need to find me a bank that would give me 79,800 pennies, that would give me great pleasure to mail that to them!!
Broke, bothered and bewildered in Belleville!!

Me TOO! Heck! I struggle enough as it is, I can't imagine a bill that high!!!

Course I also tend to run around the house turning OFF things behind people, I'm kind of a freak that way!

Too funny! But I don't think it will do any good.

To those of you with those extremely HIGH electric bills, I honestly don't know how you can afford to pay them. I feel for you, I really, really do.

Good for him!! Maybe if everyone would, that be even better!! We all pay in pennies!! And just think, if everyone would shut the power off at the breaker once a week on the same night, at dark, would that send a message. Just wondering how that would effect Ameren? And with gas prices. What would happen if everyone, did not get fuel on one day a week. Would the prices come down.? Is the American dream slippin away? Kind of makes it hard to save any money with the prices going up...Sorry so long winded.

I love that my 6 year old house is super engery efficiant... I leave my heat set at 70 and my bill for feb. was $120. (2000 sq ft. too!!!)

kathymc...i ask myself everyday...how do i pay that? and what do i not pay to pay it? Truly a depressing fact of life. Everything keeps going up except my wages.

kathymc...sad fact, my electric bill last month was only 198 and jumped to 527 this month.

Ms Vera,

The newest surcharge from Ameren will be a one for those paying in change. If the banks they use are similar to the ones we use they will have to pay a 10% penalty for cashing in that change and oh boy, can't you just see them at the change machine dumping it all in. OMG! That that would be a funny scene.
