Ms. Vera

It's so cold outside that my skin is drying. Hope this doesn't get too personal, but I have eczema and it's such a pain!
Is anyone else "suffering this winter?" If so, what do you do about it.

I try to "hydrate my skin" as much as possible. But sometimes it's a little difficult when you're working.
The Elidel works pretty well, but the price has sky-rocketed since it went on the market (yeah, that and every other prescription medication)

Any other suggestions?

My husband deals with dry skin all winter, so much that his hands crack and bleed.I had tried every kind of lotion, creme, gimmick on the market and then came up with my own. Although not very attractive, this does work very well. Either get some vaseline or vaseline lotion and some white cotton gloves (they are in the knee braces, ankle braces, etc.. section at Walgreens). Before you go to bed put the vaseline on you hands and then put the gloves on over the vaseline. I put socks over my husbands hands after this just because the vaseline is a little greasy. I know it sounds weird but I promise you it will make your hands feel much better. Plus it is a realitivy cheap solution.

Bag Balm Is the Best for the hands, you can find it at any feed Mill where they sell farm supplies. There is a knock off called udder butter sold at most pharmacys, but I dont think it is as good. AS far as the Dry Itchy skin in the Winter, I like to take bubble baths with a lot of Bath oil in the water. If nothing else put babyoil in the bath water. It is a little chore when you clean the tub, but It feels great on the skin

That may be Eucerin Cream. It is good for dry skin.

BAG BALM is the shiz. You gotta get the real Bag Balm, though, like Mr. Wildflower said, and not the Udder Butter--it's not the same.

Have you tried oatmeal baths? Aveeno makes a good oatmeal bath, and they also have oatmeal based shower gels and body washes. That's what I use in the winter time, they rock my socks.

I've tried the Cetaphil, it's less greasy than Eucerin. Oh, thanks you guys! I love bloggers!
I'll try that Bag Balm too!

Seriously, hydrocortizone ointment cleared up my son's eczema everytime. Not the creme, you need to find the ointment. It's pretty greasy though. I think Walgreen's has it.

Vaseline. Put it on your feet and hands when you go to sleep with socks too and do it every day and you will have soft feet and hands forever and rubb it on your face when you go to sleep too.

My son had it when he was younger & my nephew has eczema now. Hydrocortizone works really good.

My dogs and I take fish oil capsles. Good for skin and hair. They are even itchyer than I am.

Oh yeah, fish oil...I give that to one of my cats. She's all itchy all the time...I think she's allergic to the mold in my building.

Ms. Vera, I've never had this but worked for a dermatologist part time for many years some time ago, and you are probably under the care of one. You need to be if you aren't. That is the best thing you can do. New meds come out all the time for just about everything, and they have to keep up with the latest.

Ms. Vera, don't eat pork as it seems to activate eczema. Have you tried Aquaphor? It helps me, I rub it in really good on my legs and arms, even my face when I have ecxeza bad.
Hope you find relief soon, its miserable!!

try bathing in mineral oil and using the cortazone cream along with Ucerine, all over the counter.

When my mom had to have chemo and radiation treatments it dryed her skin so bad she had a permanent sun tan. The doctor had her use Nivia. It worked pretty well.

WHEN I WAS AT THE LAST CRAFT FAIR, I PICKED UP SOME UNCENTED BEES WAX, IT CAME IN A SMALL ROUND TIN. YOU JUST RUB IT OVER THE DRY SPOTS OR RUB IT BETWEEN YOUR HANDS, IT WORKS REALLY GOOD! I EVEN PUT IT ON MY GRANDBABIES DRY SPOTS.

Aveeno lotion is awesone for ezcema. My four year old gets the dry skin every winter. I have tried oatmeal baths, cortisone cream, the works. Also I got a prescription for Triamcinalone cream from my doctor. worked pretty well too and only cost about four dollars. Problem is every winter it just comes back.
