I've been fighting a nightmare for the last month and a half.  The beginning of January I found out that my 5 year old daughter was being sexually abused while at her father's (my ex-husband's) home.  She told her brother who was 6 yrs old and he told his grandma who called me in histerics!  I called Division of Family Services, who basically treats me as a disgruntled non-custodial parent.   DFS has already closed the case and referred the teen-age boys to Juvenile.  I had to take her to the hospital for a vaginal bacterial infection that was causing bleed!  The hospital even has a report. (Grant it that most people look at me as if "oh you are a mother and don't have primary custody of your children" and judge me, without know that I didn't have the money for a lawyer and my husband has a very good job and did. ) Family Services refused to remove the children from his home and place them with me and my husband because they won't go against a divorce decree ordering him custody.  I have to hire a lawyer, which we still cannot afford.  I have called Legal Aid.  They have not called me back, I've left voice mails!  This is not the first time my ex-husband and his wife have been referred for services.  The last incident, the 5 year old was having bed-wetting problems and they rubbed her nose in her urinated on clothing!  Who does that?  Some mean person to a pet but NEVER to a child.  Another time my ex-husband handcuffed our older daughter with plastic cynch ties (they are very sharp on the edges if you haven't felt them before) for taking stuff that wasn't her's and drove her 45 minutes up to me for a visit with them on her wrists.  Again he just got his hands slapped.  What has to happen to these children before someone helps me or decides to remove the children from the home!  There is absolutely no reason they could not be with me in a safe environment except I don't have the legal power and finances to take him back to court!  Anyone have any other ideas?  I need help!  Jefferson County has the good ole' boys club and if you don't hire one of them (which all of them have something to do with my ex-husband's family so it is a conflict of interest) you lose.
