I went to my basement the other day to do laundry and coming back up the stairs i notice a snake, OH MY GOD i almost had a heart attack ,i hate snakes hate them. So i called my husband and told him to get home know and get this thing, i sat on the steps for about 15min watching waiting for him to get their so if it moved i knew were it went. So long story short he got their and killed it.

I believe it was a garnden snake, it was small not very big but not very small ,like black with yellowish stipes going done it. BUT my questions to all is if it was a baby does that meen that mommy's around or more babies?

I havent went down stairs since,  and i have to do laundry and get the christmas stuff out of the closet down thier but awww im freaked know. I did put moth balls out side around the house but im more worried about inside and if there could be more.

HELP

Those snakes are harmless to humans. Why freak out? You could have just picked it up and set it free outside. They (garden/garter)snakes are good for the environment and help balance the population of insects, spiders and rodents. (Are you afraid of them, too?)... Mothballs are toxic.

Well i was bit by a tick in june and in august i got very sick and was dignosed with LYME DIEASE from the tick bite, i would have never ever thought that would of happen from that tick but it did and im still fighting the pain every day. So needless to say yes i am know scared of certian insects, spiders and mostly for sure snakes. And i know mothballs are toxic but that is what keeps snakes away.

Snakes or mice..... No snakes then the mice will move in.........

You would have hated going into our barn on the farm I grew up on....... We had one black snake that hung out there that was close to 6 foot long........

When we first built our house we kept getting mice in the house. It amused our cat. When I found a snake I brought it to the builder and said find the hole. He didn't believe me that there was a hole and that was how the mice were getting in. So I sat there shaking a snake at him saying I would have noticed a snake going across my floor and heading for the basement. Find the hole! He did find the hole and sealed it. You may want to figure out how the snake got in there and patch it.

After I made my point with the builder I let the snake go in the woods across the street.

Hey! Don't worry about it. Most likely it was just the one looking for a warm spot. We have had them in our basement also. The last one was a green grass snake. I thought Nia was going to mess her pants when she saw it. The woman can see the insides of a human everyday and it does not bother her, but a 8" snake gives her the heebie jeebies. Me, I pass out at the site of blood but I can pick up a snake.
We all have fears. My biggest one is spiders. Hate them things!

I would NEVER kill a snake I belive it's wrong to kill anything unless your or a love ones life is at stake..

But everyones got there own opions and you haave the right to kill it..

But I never understood why people are scared of things that are so much smaller than they are..

Like spiders gee all you gotta do is step on them...I would catch it and let it go outside because I would never kill a bug eather..

Oh I hate snake's too. I don't care if they are poisonous or not. I see them and I got something to knock em' in the head I will.
If I see one in my flower bed I don't go back for week's if I can't kill it.
We live in copperhead country and I don't care what size, color or shape they are. If I can they are goner's.I much rather have mice than snake's. Trap will get them mice.
No way am I picking up any kind of snake even after it is dead. I pick it up with a stick to get it out of the way and shake all the time I am doing it.
If they are passing through in the grass they are safe but don't come by my house. Nope, notta, noway.
We have lived in the country most our live's and even as a kid I hated going to collected egg's. Them black snake's loved the nest.eewww !!! goose bump's just thinking about it.
I don't like them at all.

I know a tick is not related, my point is the one thing that people think would not harm them or cause illiness to them does. Snakes carry diease, certian spiders you dont want to get bit by.

I HEARD SNAKES CARRY DISEASES. IS THAT TRUE?

A. Yes—snakes can carry diseases. Snakes can be host to a large number of parasites, which in turn, can affect humans, dogs and cats. Protozoa can cause digestive, respisnakeory and reproductive illnesses in snakes, humans and other animals. Tapeworms are parasites of the digestive system. Roundworms can damage the lungs and digestive tract. Snakes carry the bacteria salmonella on their skin. People who pick up salmonella bacteria can become seriously ill with diarrhea, vomiting, fever and chills. Salmonella can also affect the blood. Snake salmonella can be spread through snake fecal matter, also called “scat.”

Diseases or not I couldn't sleep unless I knew it was gone and even then I would be scared it had family. I dont blame you for calling your hubby. I would have too.

Here’s what you do. First seal your house well so no more varmints can get in. Next instruct the snakes that you will allow them one last meal in your house to eat all the mice and rats but that they must leave afterwards. Then, buy a cat and or dog to discourage any more varmints from even thinking of coming in for a visit.

And after the snake leaves, you can also address your insect concerns and buy a gecko that gets along with your cat and or dog to eat the insects and keep them at bay.

Sorry but I can’t help you with all the bacteria, viruses, mites, etc. etc. Maybe you can try wrapping your house and yourself in Saran Wrap? But you might find it difficult to breathe if you do that.

It’s a good thing you have your hubby there to do the laundry until you sort all this out, but don’t tell him I said anything about his doing the family laundry to help out okay?
