By Jo Mannies POST-DISPATCHPOLITICAL CORRESPONDENT 03/11/2008 CHESTERFIELD -- Sen. John McCain this morning defended the selection process for the new Air Force refueling tanker but said he was open to a review sought by allies of Boeing Co., which lost its bid for the lucrative contract.
Well, why not? We've already given away a good portion of our manufacturing jobs, our technical support jobs, and our production jobs; why don't we just give away our technical knowledge and military secrets while we're at it? France could use that information to build Fighters for other countries, like say, I don't know....IRAQ? McCain said that he believed the negotiations had fulfilled that test but that was open to a re-examination if it was warranted.
"The taxpayers are our first priority," he said. He added that defense contracts should provide the best equipment at the best price and should not be used as a federal jobs program.
Which taxpayers? The ones in France? Nope, no 'federal jobs program' here...it's an Intercontinental Jobs Program. We've got to keep those French Assembly Line workers on the job, after all they've done for us. First there was.............then, there was..............well, who can forget................OH, THAT'S RIGHT, they EVENTUALLY helped us with that little skirmish we had with the British, over 200 YEARS AGO. Yeah, we owe them.

NEW YORK (Reuters) - State Republicans threatened on Tuesday to impeach New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer if he does not quit over a sex scandal that has raised questions over whether he could face criminal charges.

This pinhead shouldn't have to be impeached, he should have stepped down as soon as the story broke.

"If he does not resign within the next 24 to 48 hours, we will prepare articles of impeachment to remove him," said Assembly Republican Minority Leader James Tedisco.

Interesting.....when the initial reports of Republican Sen. Larry Craig's arrest due to the Homosexual Airport Bathroom Sting came to light, GOP leaders were satified to "recommend that Senator Craig's incident be reported to the Senate Ethics Committee for its review".

"We need a leader in place that has the support of people on both sides of the aisle," Tedisco told Reuters.

Yeah, and I'll rise up from this chair and fly away. The job will go to  Lt. Gov. David A. Paterson, as it should.

This is just another example that power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.

You have to have spoken to someone who has actually been in Iraq to find the humor.

The following is a copy of an article written by Spanish writer Sebastian Vilar Rodrigez and published in a Spanish newspaper on 5-22-07

It doesn't take much imagination to extrapolate the message to the rest of Europe - and possibly to the rest of the world.

=====================================================

REMEMBER AS YOU READ -- IT WAS IN A SPANISH PAPER Date: Tue, 22 May 2007 14:30:20 -0500
ALL EUROPEAN LIFE DIED IN AUSCHWITZ By Sebastian Vilar Rodrigez

I walked down the street in Barcelona, and suddenly discovered a terrible truth - Europe died in Auschwitz . We killed six million Jews and replaced them with 20 million Muslims. In Auschwitz we burned a culture, thought, creativity, talent. We destroyed the chosen people, truly chosen, because they produced great and wonderful people who changed the world.

The contribution of this people is felt in all areas of life: science, art, international trade, and above all, as the conscience of the world. These are the people we burned.

And under the pretense of tolerance, and because we wanted to prove to ourselves that we were cured of the disease of racism, we opened our gates to 20 million Muslims, who brought us stupidity and ignorance, religious extremism and lack of tolerance, crime and poverty, due to an un willingness to work and support their families with pride.

They have blown up our trains and turned our beautiful Spanish cities into the third world, drowning in filth and crime

Shut up in the apartments they receive free from the government, they plan the murder and destruction of their naive hosts.

And thus, in our misery, we have exchanged culture for fanatical hatred, creative skill for destructive skill, intelligence for backwardness and superstition.

We have exchanged the pursuit of peace of the Jews of Europe and their talent for hoping for a better future for their children, their determined clinging to life because life is holy, for those who pursue death, for people consumed by the desire for death for themselves and others, for our children and theirs. What a terrible mistake was made by miserable Europe.

A lot of Americans have become so insulated from reality that they imagine America can suffer defeat without any inconvenience to themselves. Absolutely No Profiling! Pause a moment, reflect back.

These events are actual events from history. They really happened! Do you remember?

No, I really don't see a pattern here to justify profiling, do you? So, to ensure we Americans never offend anyone, particularly fanatics intent on killing us, airport security screeners will no longer be allowed to profile certain people. They must conduct random searches of 80-year-old women, little kids, airline pilots with proper identification, secret agents who are members of the President's security detail, 85-year old Congressmen with metal hips, and Medal of Honor winner and former Governor Joe Foss, but leave Muslim Males between the ages 17 and 40 alone lest they be guilty of profiling.

Yes, Cookie, the Truth is coming out.

The Truth that you could be so friendly to some, and so monsterous to those you felt 'did you wrong'.

The Truth that you were rightfully issued parking tickets that accumulated to an astronomical amount and they were wiped away, yet you felt unjustly mistreated.

The Truth that your community could feel so bad for you and your victims, yet your family, which includes one brother who was convicted of manslaughter in the past, could so coldly say that you were justified in taking the lives of unarmed individuals.

The Truth that you tried, repeatedly and unsuccessfully, to file legal motions without the advice of legal counsel and you were surprised and outraged that those motions were either denied or thrown out.

Yes, Cookie, the Truth about you is slowly revealing itself. It's too bad that you took the cowardly way to 'solve' your problems. You've shocked your friends, frightened your community, but sadly, you have not shamed your family.

That is the saddest Truth that has unfolded.

I read in the paper about how St. Patrick's Day lands so close to Easter Sunday, that celebrations would be inappropriate but that the Vatican will leave such decisions to the leader of each individual diocese.

I also read where Archbishop Burke has stated his objection to any St. Patrick's Day parades or celebrations, that all observances should be in solemnity, but that he hasn't made a ruling on the subject.

THIS will be interesting, to say the least.

First, let me say that it was sad to hear of Georgia Frontiere's passing. My heart goes out to her children.

I know there are questions about the future of the Rams, but I think that it will only get better. Her children have shown that they want to keep the team here, and there is every indication that they would rather sell their shares than run the team. If they sell, then Stan Kroenke gets first right to buy their parts of the team. Yes, he does own two teams in the NBA and NHL in another city, which is against League rules. However, I understand that the NFL likes him and will work with him on the issue, most likely giving him time to divest himself of those teams in Colorado.

Once Stan takes over, and since he is a successful businessman, he will most likely make changes in the front office and employ people who have NFL experience and knowledge...he will run it like a business. Too bad it won't happen during THIS offseason.

This offseason, the upcoming draft is rich and deep in talent at positions where the Rams are sorely lacking. The free agent market has some quality players in its pool, as well. A knowledgeable front office could use the talent that is available and build a playoff-quality team in just this one year, and a possible Super Bowl contender in two.

I, for one, cannot wait until Stan has complete control of this team, because he knows that to be successful in business, you don't have your 'friends' run it for you.

The Gratitude Campaign - One simple hand gesture for our troops

A friend just e mailed this to me, and I thought that I could help spread the message. No matter what your political affiliation, this is for the troops.

Have you ever seen one of our military walking past you and wanted to convey to them your thanks, but weren't sure how or it felt awkward?  Recently, a gentleman from Seattle created a gesture which could be used and has started a massive movement to get the word out. Please everybody take a moment to watch....The Gratitude Campaign .http://www.gratitudecampaign.org/fullmovie.php.
.and then forward it to your friends!

I just saw the report, and I might have some insight. From 1976 - 1999 I worked at Rosenbloom Monument Company, and my first inclination would be to check old obituary notices. I am willing to bet that most, if not all, of those markers were from Washington Park Cemetery. There are a lot of rumors about business practices by the former owner. Most of the rumors were true.
About re-using the markers......any monument company can re-chisel, or 'sink' the panels to carve new names and dates. The stones could also be re-paneled for other uses, such as address markers.

For those of you who don't know, I suffered a back injury in January, and had back surgery in June.

I've been "missing in action" because a staph infection was discovered in August, which has caused me to move into my parents' house so that I can be monitored. This has kept me offline for a while.

A couple weeks ago, I had a bout with an allergic reaction to the antibotics prescribed for me. I was taken to the Emergency Room just in time, or my throat would have swelled shut, killing me.

I'm getting back on my feet, slowly, again. I've always said, "Whatever doesn't kill you will only make you stronger"............boy, am I looking forward to being cured!  LOL

I hope that everyone here has been doing a LOT better than I have.

I want to thank Tony Snow for showing his true colors. His flippant attitude to the Libbey situation in just one more in a string of 'above the law of the land' positions by members of this White House Administration.

Our Enabler-In-Chief commutes the sentence of a member of the Vice President's staff, who was convicted of perjury to a Federal Investigator, essentially condoning obstruction of a federal investigation. A Presidential Pardon has not been ruled out, as well.

Dick Cheney answers to no one, since he considers himself not a part of the Executive Branch. He defines himself as the head of the Legislative Branch, but not a part of it.

For the last 6 years, I have heard many conservatives defend actions by this administration, saying that the White House is adhering to the Constitution that was set up by the foresight of our Founding Fathers.

I am planning to visit the grave sites of our Founding Fathers this Summer. Should be a nice breeze in those areas, what with them all spinning in their graves.
