Hey Gang!  How is everyone doing?  I hope all is well after a nice holiday season.  I had a nice week off, visiting family and friends in CA.  But now it's time to get back to business for pretty much everyone.

As for the weather, well we're doing just fine today... but there will be some other changes coming up for us especially late tomorrow.  Today we'll see cloudy skies with mild temperatures.  But tomorrow  a storm will swing in from the southwest bringing us another wintry mix to the tri-state tomorrow evening and night.  Now this doesn't look like a monster storm, more of a nuisance than anything.  We'll more than likely see a tricky morning commute come Wednesday morning and possibly some school delays and things of that sort.

So I had a great time in CA, though the weather there left a little something to be desired.  Everyone thinks California is sunny and warm all of the time.  Not so much in Northern California.  It was cloudy and cool most of the time and temperatures struggled to get out of the low 40s.  Bleckkkk...

I wanna hear about some of the good times and maybe some good weather you experienced over the holidays.  I'm going to try to post some clips of what was happening with me on my week off.  Don't look for anything too crazy... just family and friends and fun.

Hope everyone one is doing fantastic.  Happy 2009!!

Rod, Mike and we think his name is gonna be Gunther! He's too cute!

Hello everyone!  How are you on this Monday?  I know I'm just trying to duck the cold as much as possible.  We switched over to Winter officially yesterday at 7:04am and today is the first full day of winter.  And oh boy!!!  Does it ever feel like it?

Well, the good news is it's not going to stick around for long thank goodness.  Tomorrow we should get all the way up into the mid 30s!   Woooo Hoooo...  Anyhow, I will be greatful for that!

Through this week, the main threat precip-wise will be rain.  So if you're not a fan of snow or ice, this will be a less hectic week for you... and me too thank the lord!!

OK, guess I best get started on my christmas shopping!!

Cheers!

Mike

Howdy y'all!!  It's me again...  I get so caught up in other business I forget to check in here.  Everyone doing ok??  Well I know the weekend was pretty decent so you've got to be happy about that.  And now as we head back to work and to school, we've got big changes on the way so get ready for it folks.

We are ahead of a cold front today that will pass through the area over the next 24 hours.  And once again, since we have a fairly strong southwest flow ahead of the front our temperatures are very warm today.  Expect some scattered showers with a high around 62, not too far off from our record high of 67 degrees.  There will also be some showers rolling through especially later this afternoon and into this evening.

So for those of you who enjoy this unusually warm weather, ya better get out and enjoy today.  Starting tomorrow its back to the highs in the low to mid 40s.AND it looks pretty wet here for the next  5-7 days so keep your wet weather gear handy.   You'll get your money's worth soon enough.

Ciao!

Friday: The storm system is racing out of the tri-state region and taking the wet weather with it.  Low pressure is speeding out toward the Cape Cod region and the rain/sleet/snow should be ending before noontime. Cold air will begin to wrap around behind the center of the system and come down at 10-15 MPH so any lingering showers could change over to sleet or snow, but only for the N/W parts of the region and higher elevations. Otherwise, we will be done with this three-day system by the afternoon and will be left with mostly cloudy skies that will break up as we progress to Saturday.  Highs today will not change much, staying in the low 40s. The overnight low temps will be in the chilly mid 20s and frigid mid teens for the suburbs.

Saturday: High pressure from the Midwest will be coming up the coast bringing milder conditions, but they won't be here just yet. Cooler air is still flowing down from Canada in the wake of the large storm system. Winds will be diminishing as the high pressure moves close to us, bringing drier and sunny skies for the day. Some passing clouds will come up in the evening hours but won't do much to help keep the temperatures from below freezing. High temps today will be in the mid 30s and lows in the mid 20s.

Sunday: High pressure is on top of us and the reward is sunny skies.  Temperatures will be in the mid to upper 40s with some passing clouds for the evening hours. Overnight low temps will be in the low 40s as the clouds thicken up.  The winds will not be much of an issue, breezy at best.

Monday - Thursday:  High pressure is just about gone from the region come Monday morning but as it pulls out, there will be the chance of showers coming in the overnight period. Tuesday has a good chance for rain showers that will linger into Wednesday and some could see some changing over to sleet or snow showers in the early hours. Wednesday will eventually clear up yielding a mostly cloudy sky for the night time and Thursday. Temperatures will be dipping down from a mild mid 50s to near 40.  The lows will be doing the same, mid 40s to low 30s.

Thursday:  A messy day is on the way with a large, low-pressure system slowly bringing us a lot of rain, ice and snow for some. Low pressure moves out of the Carolinas and heads up the coast and with it a lot of moisture.  As the storm center approaches Long Island, it will strengthen and bring around a lot of rain, about an inch or two. Now into the overnight hours when the bulk of the precipitation will fall, we will have to the north, counties such as Dutchess, Ulster, Colombia, Rockland, Westchester, Putnam and Sullivan counties could see an icy mix and the higher elevations would get some snow accumulations. The rest will get rain and it could be heavy at times.  Wind conditions will be in the 10-20 mph range with some possible gusts up to 30. Temps for this period will be on the cool side; highs in the low 40s and lows in the mid 30s.

Friday: A wintry mix will be around for the tri-state area with most areas seeing rain, but northwest New Jersey, and the Hudson Valley will be seeing some icy mix. Low pressure is on the way out toward Cape Cod and will be bringing around some wrap-around cold air from the northwest.  This will allow those areas to see some icy forming and some snow accumulations. This will all be going on from the early-morning hours through about noon time. In the afternoon, the showers will be tapering off leaving a mostly cloudy sky. Temps for this day will be in the upper 30s and lows in the chilly mid 20s. Chance of precipitation is 75 percent with an additional inch or two of rainfall in the morning hours.

Saturday: High pressure moves in from the Midwest clearing out the skies.  It will be a cool and dry day with plenty of sunshine and some passing clouds in the evening hours. Temperatures will be in the mid 30s with lows in the mid 20s.

Sunday - Wednesday: High pressure will be around for the day Sunday and most of Monday but as it leaves, there will be some clouds coming in with a chance of showers in the late afternoon hours. Low pressure out of the Great Lakes region will be coming through Tuesday morning bringing a line of showers and mild air.  Wednesday will see some lingering showers with a mostly cloudy sky for the remainder of the day. Temps for this period will be in the low 40s to low 50s and overnight periods in the mid to upper 30s.

Well it's not quite Winter yet officially, but we're getting close! So to help get myself geared up for winter, I headed for the hills... Park City, Utah to be exact! I made a quick trip out west for a slightly extended weekend to partake in The Deer Valley Skifest. It was a weekend of skiing, racing and fundraising for The Waterkeeper Alliance which is a grassroots organization dedicated to preserving and protecting your water. There were quite a few celebrities out for the event as well like the Kennedy family, Bob Villa, Ian Ziering (Beverly Hills 90210), Gloria Rueben (Law and Order), Julia Louis-Dreyfus(Seinfeld), Larry David (Curb Your Enthusiasm) and many more. Oh! And Gavin Rossdale was the guest musician who was there with his wife Gwen Stefani and their little ones. OK, I'm done name dropping...

Any how, I had a great time out there and I survived my first weekend of skiing for the '08-'09 season. What was unbelievable was the fact that the weather was warmer out there on the slopes than what was happening here in the tri-state. I can't say that I'm sorry I missed that frigid blast. But as I return, I see that there is plenty of action coming this way. We've got a pretty strong storm heading into the tri-state region today and it will drop off lots of rain and wind tomorrow followed up with a ton of cold air. We should even get a little snow by the end of this work week! So much for vacation for Mikey Boy!!

Cheers!

Ian Ziering finishing race course. I didn't make that cut...

My fancy room with a fireplace...

And this was the view... They need snow in Utah!

Howdy everyone! Tis' the season... to PARTAY!! Yep, it's that time of the year for everyone to head out to all sorts of holiday parties. But last night (Dec. 3rd) I was at a private listening party for Deborah Cox who has a new album out. She's done so much great stuff in the past so I had to go check it out. That and I've met her in the past and she's so cool so you know I had to support my girl. So here's a few clips of what it was like at the party. The sponsors for the party were also promoting the property where the party was held at so I'll put up some of that video later... trust me, those were some nice pads!! I know the video quality isn't the best... and I'm no cameraman. But you'll get a taste. Oh! And Deborah is 7 months pregnant and can still do her daggone thang!

Cheers!

Howdy Y'all!!  Hopefully you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend.  I know I did.  And right now I'm pushing full force into Christmas mode.  I took a little roadtrip up to the Poconos this weekend with a couple of friends and we picked out a few nice trees.  If you have never done this, I'd highly recommend it for the adventure of it all.  I've been doing it for a good 3  or 4 years now and it's a blast.
I'll post a sequence of the day as it rolled on.  These clips are posted  using Youtube so it should work out....  Keep you finger crossed.
-The first video is of my finding the perfect tree and cutting her down to bring back home...-The Second Video is of Brenda finding a perfect tree for her mom!=The Third video is of us bailing the trees and surveying the farm.-Video Four is just the shenanigans we went through to tie those tries onto "Rudolf the red nosed Subaru.-The fifth and final video is of the tree up and decorated in my apartment.
Whew!!!!  What a day!!  But it was fun.!
Happy Holidays!!

OK, I got a nice little taste of winter yesterday as i headed out to P.S. 52 in Dongan Hills, Staten Island.  Yep!  It was Prinicipal for a day yesterday once again for Mr. Mike Woods and we had a great time out there.  But it definitely gave me a nice little preview of what's to come as we head  into the winter months.  We even witnessed a few flurries in the area and I know some folks  saw full on snow squalls around the tri-state yesterday.

Well, I had a great time yesterday with all the activities, but I also now appreciate being inside even more so with the cold air setting up shop for a decent stretch of time here.  So I will be parked in studio for a while... unless something very cool comes up!!  Who can turn down a good party??

By the way, I want to invite all the kids, parents and staff members who came to be a part of the prinicipal for a day festivities yesterday to start up a blog and upload some pictures for us to post here our myfoxny.com website.   Send 'em in Y'all!!  And bundle it up before you head outside.  Trust me... it's still cold and it's staying that way!

Brrrrr.....

Howdy everyone!   How's everyone been?  I've been well, but very busy with all the changes around this place.  What I'm speaking about today are the changes with Fox 5 going HD.  This was a huge undertaking for the station and as many of you have noticed, we're using a different weather graphics system which was a big deal for us and... well... it's going to take a little time to get a complete grasp on how to use this bad  boy!

So that's one huge change, and here's the other.  The Weather!!  Yes, it's been dry here since Saturday but that dry weather won't last much longer either.  A complex storm will be heading this way tonight and into tomorrow.  That means there is a good chance for rain tomorrow which will probably last for a few days.  The good news with this wet weather comes warmer temperatures too.  So break out the umbrellas and keep them handy for a while... you're going to need them.

And just an fyi, for those who are wondering what going on with our next good day gathering... we have been struggling to come up with a date that works for everyone.  And unfortunately it looks like our biggest challenge is the holiday season.  Obviously that isn't going to change.  So it looks like we may have to wait until 2009 to get a time together that works for as many as possible.  :/  It's not ideal, but I think that's what we're faced with realistic.  We'll keep ya posted!!

Some of you may have noticed that I have a hard time sitting still.  I have a hard time staying put on the weekends unless I have friends or family in town to entertain.  This past weekend was much the same as I decided to take a little jaunt down to the nation's capital to hang out for the weekend and see some old friends I hadn't seen in a few years.  It was a great little trip, I drove down instead of taking the train or flying this time.  It was kind of nice though cause I don't keep a car in the city so driving is always a little treat for me.
The weather was awesome, especially on Saturday.  I swear it felt more like late Spring or something.  I'm trying to get better with taking video and pictures so I can share a little bit of my weekends with you all.  That and it's also nice to have things documented on video just in case you forget somethings here and there.
So take a peak if you're interested.  I promise to be a little better at "telling the story" with video in the future.
Take care!
Mike

OK, So a couple of weeks ago I visited P.S. 48 and served as Principa for a day. I had such a great time and the students, staff and families that came out to visit couldn't be nicer. They had created all sorts of banners, pictures, storybooks, poems, cakes, cupcakes and lots of great questions for me. I was completely taken back by it all.

One thing I have to share with everyone is this cute little they wrote and sang for me during the visit. It was so cute I don't even know what to say. So anyhow, here's a link to that song which I had uploaded.

Thanks to everyone who made me feel so welcome! You are all superstars in my book!

Cheers!

OK, so the halloween adventures continued today for us on Good Day New York!  Today we headed out to Greenpoint Brooklyn to a house at 648 Humboldt Drive.  The owner and creator,  Anthony Aurienna wasn't home but he had plenty of family, friends, neighbors, and ghostly gags galore to go 'round.  We had a great time out there, took lots of pics and froze our rear ends off!!  Good thing this was the day BEFORE halloween!!
So here's a quickie tour of 648 Humboldt "Manor".  Enjoy and Happy Halloween!!

Hello Everyone!  It's getting closer and closer to Halloween and everyone is getting so excited. We survived the coastal storm so now it's party time! It's hard to believe how much folks get into the freaky festivities these days.  Halloween isn't just for kids anymore, EVERYONE wants in on the action.
So what I decided to do was take a short video of the homes I visited today so I could show everyone online.  My little flip camera rolled and we just had a little "show and tell of two great homes in Wayne, NJ whose owners submitted their proud pictures to Fox 5 to have us out for our morning show.  Rob Richardson and Gail Turner and their families went all out and promise it's going to be a huge party come Halloween.
Hope you enjoy the little tour and if you want to go check them out they're expecting plenty of people so it should be fun!
Cheers!

Hello Everyone, and happy Monday. Hopefully you all had a great weekend. I know I did!! And I'm sure quite a few of our loyal bloggers also had a great time. As many of you know, we had a little gathering at this restaurant Local West by Penn Station which turned out to be a really nice time! I know the weather was not cooperative, but that didn't stop Me, Ines, Foxy Kathy and a whole lot of fun from going on.

So who showed up to this fun fest?? Well we had Mystro, Rebecca, Lori, Maki, Amy, Chelechoka, Doc, Bobby, Big Band Bob and the new president of my fan club. Yes!! We're working on a Mike Woods fan club web site... more to come on that soon. (please forgive me if I forgot anyone) And just so you know, this wasn't my idea. I'm not a vain boy like that.

Anyhow, we all had fun little meet and greet and look forward to doing something again in the not too distant future. We're thinking about maybe at a karaoke bar or something like that. Or does anyone like bowling?? All kinds of ideas. Just stay tunes and we'll see what happens.

So if you want to get a little snapshot of what the gathering was like... check out some of the clips and pix below. Good times, good times!! :)

Cheers!
