I have been looking lately for a new job.  I seem to be hitting this HUGE brick wall that is just driving me CRAZY!!  It seems that everyone wants experience,  but how can you even get experience if you can't get anyone to hire you.  I'm about to graduate from school with my degree, in paralegal studies, but I currently don't work in a law firm.  Does anyone else seem to be having the problem of everyone wanting expereince.

I understand why they would want someone with experience, but dang give a girl a chance!

Unfortunately that is very common, you usually have to take a low paying job in your field to get your foot in the door. Perhaps if you are able maybe you can volunteer/intern somewhere while you are in school.

Try using the placement office in your school, they usually have alot of contacts that hire recent/soon to be graduates. That is a great resource.

The key is to never give up, keep looking everywhere and anywhere you can think of. Never know where a job will pop up.

You may want to try negotiating for a job at a lower pay rate with a written agreement of established increases after a period of proving yourself.

Just keep looking. You'll find employers willing to take a chance on limited experience. Getting a job has a lot to do with timing. Keep working the employers you are seeking. Their staff needs will change.

Megaroo,

Like deeno said, volunteer while you are looking for work. This will get you some experience and the companies can see that you are not just sitting back and waiting for the phone to ring. Look in the phone book for various agencies (non-profits love volunteers) and find one that matches your interests.

I can't volunteer, I already work 40 hours a week and go to school two nights a week,

I see, you are working, just not in your chosen field. Then, keep the work up while you finish school and don't give up sending out resumes. You'll eventually get the job that you want.

You may wish to visit the employment center to see if your resume has "the look" that employers appreciate. At times, if there is even a small error the resume gets put in the "out" pile, which can be deadly.

Lastly, you may wish to visit your school's employment counselor, they may have tips and/or leads for you.

Good Luck.
