Hey everyone!  As I watched the Oscars last night, I thought I'd share my story about meeting Al Gore.....

In 1991, I was living in Washington D.C....my wife was working for Senator Danforth and I was thinking about applying for grad school.  My wife saw an announcement for a Senate Hearing on "Global Climate Change" and thought I'd be interested.  Sure enough, I saw that several professors from MIT would be attending...and since I was planning to apply to MIT...I thought this would be a good chance to meet face-to-face.  I expected a big production, but this Senate Hearing was held in a small room...with only 15-20 people.  There were about 8 professors and researchers and about the same number in the audience which included a few reporters and people "off the street" like me.  Al Gore, a Senator at the time, was the moderator of the meeting.  I was able to shake hands and talk briefly with everyone there.  I didn't spend much time talking with Al (I was trying to impress the professors) but I was surprised at his knowledge of the Earth's climate.  I guess I was expecting the stereotypical politician -- but he definitely understood what was being discussed and was quite passionate about the topic.  Anyway, that's my story! By the way, I never did get accepted to MIT!!!

I bet that would have been a really interesting presentation Mark. While in Anchorage, I went to a talk on the melting snows of Kilimanjaro. Lots of interesting facts there as well. By the way...I cried when I didn't get into Ohio State for grad school. Sigh...

You're re-inforcing what many of us enlightened Americans have determined over the last few years - Gore was one of the best politicians to serve our country over the years since Carter. He actually does care about Earth and people, something we just can't say for our current commander-in-cheat. I was SO happy that his documentary won an Oscar - a fitting award for a passionate piece of work. Just makes me wonder: How different would our country and our society be today had he been elected president, given he did, of course, get more votes than that other guy? Here's a few brief predictions into the past: We would still have a hot economy where the MIDDLE class would be propering (rather than just the well heeled thiefs), we would have stopped the terrorists in their tracks without attacking any sovereign nation, and we PROBABLY would not have been attacked on 9-11. Me thinks Gore would have actually done something about it, rather than letting it happen to exploit the tradgedy for his own personal gain - oops, did I just imply Bush knew? Ooops!

Anyway, thanks Mark for some more enlightening information about a true leader.

Ooops! That's "...MIDDLE class would be proSpering (rather than just the well heeled thieVEs)..."

I don't want to sound like those right-wingers who can't spell or communicate above the 5th grade level (as I guess we'll find out in that new reality show....!)

I would expect nothing less from the man who invented the internet.

I wonder if Al blogs? I'm sure he invented that, too. However, I am a Gore fan. I think he's down to earth -- on SOME things. I'm a Clinton fan, too (Bill, NOT Hillary).

If Gore was that informed in 1991, he's way more so now. I believe he believes.
