With gas prices souring, are you still taking a summer vacation?  We're trying to find out how many of you plan to travel this summer and if so where are you going?  Are you staying close to home, driving, flying?  If you're staying here, I would like to know what places are unique and perhaps best kept secrets in Missouri or Illinois, that is until we tell everybody about them!  Thanks for your help.

We were planning a trip to Colorado to ride some trains, but now we are going to stay close to home and spend some time in southern Illinois. We usually camp in Ferne Clyffe State park and travel out from there. This year we want to see the Little Grand Canyon, Garden of the Gods and Giant City.

I won't be doing anything. The gas prices and food prices took any extra money from me. My kids will be going to the Gathering which is an underground concert held this year in Kentucky. That will be in August.

Hey Margie!

I will be spending 2 weeks volunteering at Camp Ondessonk in Shawnee National Forest! It's located in Southern Illinois not far from Marion Illinois. It is about a 3 hour drive from the station., and worth every minute!

It's a Summer camp for kids, but families come off season to camp and enjoy the hiking, fishing, and the amazing waterfalls! Quality time well spent with the family! Learning about nature and appreciating God's green Earth is what it is all about!

Go to Ondessonk.com for more information, or give me a call and I would be happy to tell you more. Check out the pics I have in my photo albums.
Family Camp is in September if you're intersted let me know!

Peace, Jana

Hey Margie -
We too spend 3-4 weeks at River Pointe Christian camp in Stelleville, Mo. They hold 4 weeks of camp there and I volunteer for 3 while my kids are campers and we go to the 4th one as a family for family camp. That takes up our July. My kids don't get out of school until May 30th and then we are moving to Rolla, Mo. So no huge travel plans for us. But we would fly before we drove this year if we went anywhere.
A very beautiful place that we found in St James is Meremac Springs Park.
You can find more at

-005
that is a site that we found for scenic road trips close to home.

I know for a few days Sue and I will be out camping at Jeanette's.

Still planning on taking a road trip to Tennessee.

Now, if Fox2 would purchase our gas, we could go stalking alot more.

We normally take a pretty good driving vacation every year but no such plans this year. Last year to Destin Florida, the year before Texas Gulf Coast and San Diego the year before. I live in one of the most beautiful places in the country and we may just re-visit Missouri this year.

As of right now I would like to put the Stimulus money into my ROTH IRA.

I'm taking a couple days with a friend to enjoy the scenery somewhere close by, not sure where yet. Any ideas?

Trout Lodge is a great get back to nature place, but it can be expensive during the season, but it can also include a lot with the price (40+) activities.

I want to go on a long trail ride, maybe an overnight campout . . . just don't know yet, but am sure that I'll get somewhere, sometime, lol.

we did not go anywhere last year due to paying for a wedding but the year before that went to colorado springs, just beautiful, we were going to go to wyoming this year but due to the price of gas no can do, so i guess we will be spending as many weekends up at mark twain lake, they have 2 nice beaches, a nice camp ground, not that we camp there, and the park is beautiful, the lake is usually calm and peaceful. only 2 hours from st. louis.

have a safe and happy summer

Trout Lodge is so cool..... I do a show there every year and stay there once a year..... Nobody would regret the relaxing time there.... Not really that expensive when you figure in the three squares a day......

I anchor Fox 2 News in the Morning and yes, I actually do enjoy mornings! I've always gotten up early and find getting off to a great start in the morning is refreshing. After Fox 2, my life quickly turns to my family. My 4 year old son, 2 year old daughter, & newborn baby boy keep me busy running everywhere! I know all you Mom's out there can appreciate that. I have to say, being a Mommy is the greatest job on earth! Did I mention I have the best husband in the world? I'm truly amazed at all he does everyday! Other than family life, my heart is with kids born with the odds against them. I spend a lot of time with charities focusing on children. Thank you for allowing me to "wake-up" with you every morning and I look forward to hearing from you on the blogs. God Bless.
