Jennifer Love Hewitt back

Jennifer Love Hewitt front

This picture of Jennifer Love Hewitt hit newstands with a headline declaring: "We know what you ate this summer...everything." Friday morning on our stlmoms.com segment we'll be talking about Hollywood celebrities and body image. The stats are startling, 42% of 1st through 3rd graders want to be thinner, these are precious six, seven and eight year olds. We'll compare the celebrities to the average American woman. Jennifer Love Hewitt came out saying "don't call me fat" I'm a size 2, but was more disturbed about what these words said to teens and even younger girls. What do you think? I'd love to share some of your comments on the air Friday morning.

She is a beautiful young woman. There is nothing wrong with her at all. I wish I could be a size 2. After 3 kids, I am lucky to be a size 8. LOL

I think she is a great role model for the young girls who seem to think that the skinnier the better. Actually these anorexic looking models make me want to throw up. You need some meat on theose bones. If you don't have any meat on your bones how is your man supposed to hug on ya.....

Children are taught everyday the lesson self esteem is wrapped up in how we look. Mom used to say pretty is is pretty does.(What happened to pretty does?) I have noticed Children have lost respect for themselves and others. They seem to be thinking if the package is fine everything else is too. Actions speak louder than words, but the press is impressing young ones with false ideas. Why is it we would rather see a condemning news item? Think about how many commercials are demeaning in content. We are setting the stage for our children to feel bad about themselves.

I agree. There's no way she's fat. I don't think I ever wore a size 2...well, maybe before I was born. To me, "average" would be a size 12 or 14. That's what I've always imagined anyway. I'm alot bigger than that. Doesn't make me fat..just above average. :)

With my girls, I've always tried to stress healthy vs. fat or skinny. I've also let them know that the girls in the magazines, models, etc. are not what "normal" is. There are so many possibilities...good genes, drug use, eating disorders..whatever. Young girls need to understand that they don't have to be stick thin to be beautiful. They don't have to be stick thin for boys to like them. They do have to love themselves and respect themselves and everything will fall into place. JMO

Everyone should be ashamed of themselves. Who of us hasn't had a bad picture taken of them or who doesn't need to lose a few pounds? I think she just needs a bigger suit!

Jennifer Love Hewitt looks great in this photo!

Here she is smiling and having some fun, only to have someone taking her photo with the soul purpose of plastering it all over the tabloids. They then take the photo and photoshop it to sell a story! Example: Look at her waist from the front view......Long and thin,....Now look at the back view....Short and stout! You can see that the photo has been altered.
This is a great example of why so many of our young girls battle with eating disorders!
Thanks Margie for sharing this, great blog!

Peace, Jana<3

If these pictures haven't been altered, I will be surprised...the bottom one makes her look thinner. Anyway, I have struggled with self-image issues in the past (and still do at times) and sometimes it's hard to just love ourselves the way we are. My body is out of proportion somewhat, definitely carrying my weight on the lower half! I am a pear!! I have to remind myself daily that I am okay just the way I am....

If this is FAT then I must look like a beached whale. I'd like to see what the people who are writing these headlines look like.

She is hardly fat. I'm not saying she doesn't need to tone up, but fat is not it. I agree the photos look altered.

I can stare at Jennifer all day. What can I say she is cute. I much rather look at her than a woman who is anorexic.

If she is cosidered fat then I don't think Hanes would be having her do their undies and bra commercials. That girl is beautiful.

Like it or not we have a double standard for weight. We think all women should be movie star weight to look good. What most of us men don't understand and never will is all the physical changes that occur in the female body. Believe me I am not making light of this, it is real. The metabolic change in a woman's body not only affects them physically but emotionally and mentally as well. Our scale of standard is to high and that causes many to never try to be healthier because the perception of the bar is already set so high that it is believed it can't be reach so it seems senseless to try.

Now, can someone pass the Christmas cookies ...?

Jennifer Love Hewitt is such a cutie...I have to agree that the photo looks altered. Women, in general, already have such major issues with their bodies and "stories" like this perpetuate the idea that in order to be beautiful you must fit a certain criteria. That is poppycock! I know many beautiful people, and not all of them show their beauty on the outside.

Amen to that Superjay....there is nothing more attractive in a woman than one who is confidant in who she is, no matter what weight issues the world feels she may have. A bunch of poppycock!! LOL!

The paparazzi LOVE to get ahold of the worst picture they can find and run with like wildflower (they do long feature articules of them all the time with every beautiful woman they can get - including the pencil thin ones). The problem is that the media makes a tacit "Curvy and beautiful!" article, interview, etc, yet the "cool," "attractive," "heartbreaker," roles go to Kiera Knightly, Kirsten Dunst, Gwynth Paltrow, and so on. For every picture (flattering or otherwise) of a "curvy and fabulous" star, there's 25 of Nicole Richie, Paris Hilton, etc. One pandering "you look great" article is immediately followed by a zillion ones on size 0 "beauties" and "How did she lose that baby weight to get back to a size 0?!" The message is clear and no occasional article or healthy body weight or curves can combat the constant barrage of print media that says otherwise.

I wish our daughters, sisters, friends would not be plagued with what the media says is "pretty" no offense Margie or FOX (most of this kind of stuff comes from trash media). I am glad that FOX and Stlmoms will be talking about this. What happened to the Rosemary Clooney's and Marilym Monroe's? I love the stand that Queen Latifa has to say on this issue. These were and are beautiful full figured women. In our house the word "fat" is never allowed.

I anchor Fox 2 News in the Morning and yes, I actually do enjoy mornings! I've always gotten up early and find getting off to a great start in the morning is refreshing. After Fox 2, my life quickly turns to my family. My 4 year old son, 2 year old daughter, & newborn baby boy keep me busy running everywhere! I know all you Mom's out there can appreciate that. I have to say, being a Mommy is the greatest job on earth! Did I mention I have the best husband in the world? I'm truly amazed at all he does everyday! Other than family life, my heart is with kids born with the odds against them. I spend a lot of time with charities focusing on children. Thank you for allowing me to "wake-up" with you every morning and I look forward to hearing from you on the blogs. God Bless.
