As a parent, I'm frustrated and angry that the toys I buy my kids may not be safe.  We have yet another huge toy recall involving toys made in China.  It is very likely we will have many more.  Today it involved Polly Pockets.  I like many of you went to the mattel website and looked the pictures of numerous toys now considered dangerous.  You basically have to look at the pictures and see if your child's toys match them.  My daughter has a pile of Polly Pockets that she has collected over the last three years.  I'm not exactly sure which ones are part of the recall and which ones are not.  I think the toy companies need to give parents more information.  Which ones have magnets? Why didn't they tell us about this?  or are we overreacting? How many more toys have dangerous lead paint?  It's a scary thought.

Mandy, even though I don't have small children anymore, I am as mad as you are! What gives? They are worried about lead paint on walls...how about lead paint on little kids toys? What's the purpose for this? I don't get it? What the heck's wrong with American made?

I'll tell you the CEO's want a bigger piece of the pie and so its cheap to make over there. They lay off workers and then try to make the public believe its good business. With this last toy recall/pet food/toothpaste I say we need to take back the market and make our own toys and stuff. Our politicans have sold us a lame bill of goods and our children/family and pets have been placed at risk. This is wrong. I too want to BUY AMERICAN MADE PRODUCTS but you can't find them.

Mandy I too agree that we need to bring our jobs back to the states.... Hopefully they will rid the problem before kids start getting sick.....

What happened to the kids that played with wagons and dolls......

I was watching this on the news this evening and I was infuriated! As a mother of a one year old son, I have enough to worry about and enough on my mind. And it irritates me that I now have to worry about the toys I buy him as well. As a tax paying citizen I should have the confidence of knowing that everything I buy for my children and family is safe and tested! I think the government and whoever is responsible for all of these products coming over here like is, should really take another look at their job description!

It's sad that we've come to depend so much economically on a country that is clearly unreliable when it comes to making safe products.

I wish I could say with even a little bit of honesty that we could afford to buy a good portion of these China-made products if they were made in the US.

What we (U.S.) needs to do now is create a huge surcharge/tariff on all imports. Make it ridiculous as this will convince these American companies to move their assembly plants back to the states. The main reason why they all left is because of unionization. Yeah, I'll hear it from the blue collars BUT it's true. So - have these companies come back here since a tariff (lets say 50%) is too high and it's then cheaper to build/produce in the US. We'll create good jobs, solid products, and now control "lead paints" and/or any other inadequate materials that the foreigners are putting in our products.

Lawmakers - get some gonads...you got your raises now get some praises! Create a ridiculous 50% tariff for any import. We'll see more automobile plants, tons of assembly plants, Dell's customer service would speak English her in the US - it'd be great!

Mandy-
You are not overreacting! This is just like the food(fish) and pet food. China is killing us. It is a nasty circle we sent all GOOD jobs overseas and left America with customer service and low paying retail jobs which left people with no benefits and no health insurance which forced them to shop more at Walmart which flooded the market by Walmart and other chains to compete with them and now we have this......Made In America!

The average American consumer can all they want but until they STOP shopping at Walmart, who is the biggest import retailer, this will continue. I was happier paying that extra dime for something that was made in America. How do we know that those toys are not painted with Anthrax? Could this be the reason that Autism is growing at an alarming rate in American children? Yes, we saved a dime but now we have no job and unhealthy children. I'm sorry but it is no wonder that other countries look at us and laugh. We really are stupid! Stupid and greedy. We want a high paying job but we want to save that almighty dime and spend our dimes at Walmart.

The average American consumer can....complain....all they want.....

Sorry. Yes I'm upset. I have been an Anti Walmart activist now for 7 or 8 years and this just really drives home for me what no one will stop to think about until now. Keep thinking and go to WakeUpWalmart.com or WalmartWatch.com
Bring the jobs back to America.
Speedy has the right idea. Yes, it is THAT simple!

as I responded to Elliots blog , not only are they not going to specify , or give a more detailed description of what toys are recalled . When you call their customer service , you don't always get an english speaking rep per they have outsourced that as well . I have called for the second time and the lady i talked to was kind and pretty good at her job and was bases in the USA , but on the first recall i called and got someone not in the USA which made it even more frustrating . As parents there is no such thing as OVER reacting , in my opinion ! We as consumers have the right to obtain more info than this , its outragious !

We (the U.S) owe China money.. I understand what people are saying about inports, and bring the work back to the united states, how do you do that? and keep the Chinese from thinking we will renig on our debt..WE ARE WHAT KEEP THERE ECONOMY STRONG, I guess, I should have said wal mart.lol..Anyway it is upsetting about the recalls, but the truth is there are probably more problems with there products that have not been detected..According to market watch and others on wall street their growth over the next 10yrs will be huge...Ours is not that good according to some...What we need is for them to let us in their country to inspect, and I mean inspect not just the ones they select for us to tour I am talking about factories...

My wifes boss recently went to china,What I was trying to say, is there is a major company here that wants china to build something for them, and any mistakes that are wrong with the product they want my wifes boss to fix it...The problem is this large company over here wants to make my wifes company responsible, for a product made in china..When he was their they took him to places selected for him to go...How can you inspect when they place they took him, was not the place that was producing the product...

STOP all imports....increase tariffs by 150% and force these lowballers to come back and assemble stuff here in Southern Illinois for $14/hr or Missouri for the same. Each employee would make about $30,000 a year, it would truly be American made and Wal-Fart can do nothing. Remember, you cannot blame Wal-Fart totally because they are selling the products that the consumers demand - (supply/demand) and ironically they are made in China or India.

Bring em home (assembly plants / jobs / troops) - it's time to stop screwing around with the American voters.

Oh, and fire LaRussa!

Bash China all you want. Those people take their jobs seriously and I believe are truly repentant for recent recalls.
The head of the toy manufacturer who was involved with the recall hung himself yesterday morning and the guy who was head of drug relations or something who was involved with the first recalls (pet food and something) was tried, sentenced to death and executed within days of the first recall.
Say what you will about imports, these people take their responsibility seriously.
I'm not anti-American, but had it been an American employee even terminating the employee responsible would've taken months, then the terminated employee would've sued and that would've gone on forever, probably with a big payout to the employee.
I'm not saying killing the guy was justified, but I don't think people should assume that the Chinese government, the Chinese employers or the Chinese employees are taking this lightly.
And yes, I'm a mother, Yes some of my kids were part of the recall.

can anybody spell class action suit

Speedy62269 read my blog

cajundon: The only problem with truly proving class action is by proving your child has lead poisoning and then proving that it came from their product. A few questions of concern on chldren affected will be was lead poisoning pre-existing and if so, please prove it. If not, then basically it's a toss up. It'll take a lot to win but the good thing is with large corporations and class actions they usually settle "out of court". You might end up with a $100 coupon.

I agree with Speedy62269. Bring our industries back to the States. This will reduce our unemployed, take people off the welfare roles, these people will, therefore, be paying taxes. This is what will really boost our economy. Why are we importing everything from dog food and toothpaste to toys and baby bibs? Also, bring our car industries back to the States. Most of the T.V. commercials are advertising foreign-made vehicles. This is a real slap-in-the-face to our children who will be needing jobs someday. I doubt that we will be sending them overseas to find these jobs. Charity begins at home and I'm all for helping others, but there comes a time we need to help our own people - many who are jobless and homeless.
