I didn't know what to anticipate on my first day at the Fox 2 news station.  I guess what I was expecting was kind of what you see in the movies.  Crazed reporters running around with cigarettes dangling from their fingers, phones ringing nonstop, people yelling across the room.  I was off.  Everyone we met was very pleasant, no yelling or cigarettes whatsoever.  Phones rang, but at a decent pace.  For the most part it was a fun, relaxed (as relaxed as a news station can get) environment.

As you may expect at a news station, there  are TVs  pretty much everywhere  you  turn,  and not just one, there are rows  and rows of them.  There are  big ones, little ones, medium ones, fat ones, skinny ones, you get the picture - no pun intended.  Televisions are in pretty much every room except the bathroom which actually wouldn't be such a bad idea.  I was thinking of the pros and cons of having masses of boob tubes in a setting such as my home.  And really only positives came to mind.

Then I thought of the hour between 10 and 11 in the morning when my fellow LU bloggers and I were walking around the Fox 2 news station.  Because of all the TVs, everywhere you looked you would see Rachael Ray.  Not that I have anything against her, but she seems to be everywhere already (magazines, books, knife sets, like five TV shows, postcards, toilet paper) and then she actually is - EVERYWHERE.  And of course, there are no remote controls to mute or anything.  All I'm saying is, it can be a little overwhelming.

The coolest thing today was watching a live news broadcast.  The way the whole process works is amazing and really boggles my mind.  I can't really go into much detail about what I saw because I don't really understand how it works, all I can tell you is that it does work.  And it's awesome.

I noticed Rachel Ray everywhere too. I agree with your whole movie interpretation of a newsroom.
Maybe in the next 12 days we will see it get a little crazy in the newsroom. I'm hoping for some breaking news.

Picture HA I get it! Do you think people get in trouble here for watching T.V.?

Funny, I didn't see Rachel Ray at all! Must be the generation gap. You painted a cool picture, though, Jen. Must be because of the good practice you got during your internship at Sauce Magazine.

I am a senior at Lindenwood anticipating my introduction into the "real world" this May. After switching majors every semester I have created my own via a contract degree. It's called Written and Visual Communications which is basically a fancy way of saying journalism with a little bit of art thrown in the mix. I recently finished an internship with Sauce Magazine which was awesome! Some of my passions include writing, beach lounging, working on my fitness and baking. I just got a snowboard for Christmas so if anyone has tips for an amateur, bring 'em on.
