Same old story, different player. Chrysler to layoff hundreds of workers and move production to Canada. This is yet another sign of corporate greed that gets in trouble of its own making.

For years the auto unions have pushed for higher and higher wages and benefits which in turn made the vehicles more expensive. Americans wanted vehicles bigger and bigger. Oil companies wanted more and more profits. Guess who loses? America!! Another AMERICAN company sells out to a foreign country and America loses another bit of her power and might.

For years America was the best country in the world, second to none in almost every facet of life. Look at us now. We are the door mat of the world. We fight wars for other countries and spend our tax dollars for their benefit. We've spent almost one TRILLION dollars of American tax money in Iraq fighting a "no win" battle, it is not a war. Hostile activities were declared over years ago. Will they pay us for our service? NO!!!!! Yet they are selling the oil rights to highest bidder. What I would do is pay for the war by taking one TRILLION dollars in their oil and giving it to the American taxpayer who is footing the bill.

We spend millions on lottery tickets and in casinos. Money that could be going into the gas tank and gas saved by not going to the "boat in a moat" and we complain about high gas prices.

We make mulit-millionaires out of young men in their teens and twenties calling them Professional Athletes and we pay outrageous prices for tickets and concessions and we complain about high gas prices.

We pay around five bucks a gallon for WATER and complain about high gas prices.

We pay about four bucks for a cup of coffee and complain about high gas prices.

So should we be upset when Chrysler laysoff thousands or Ford threatens to shut down plants, Hazelwood MO is already closed, because of low auto sales figures? No.

Folks this is the new America of the 2000's. We waste money on overpriced stuff, lose hundreds of dollars on the chance of "hitting the big one", move into bigger and fancier homes farther and farther away from our workplace. Want to see the cause of our problems, look in the mirror.

Now is the time America to take a stand.

Conserve fuel by combining trips or walking.

Drink water from the tap, use your own refillable bottle.

Stop wasting money on the "chance of hitting the big one". You have a better chance of getting hit by lightning in the bathtub. Casinos only make money, who do you think pays for all the millions spent on hotels, parking garages, fancy lights and machines? When was the last time you saw a "Going out of business" sign on a casino. Read the paper, they are making millions each month, of your money.

Looking to move? Try a smaller house that costs less to heat and cool.

Want a cup of coffee? Brew one at home for about 20 cents. Why pay two bucks?

America, our greed and waste got us into this mess and only we can get ourselves out. Start to day to make a difference.

Thank you and may God bless.

Well said.--- We lost ourselves in a flood of posessions. Gotta have it now, pay later.

My neighbor spent $400 buck on Hannah Montana tickets for their 8 yr old and just bought 2 used jet skis for $500 each. Not 2 month later I listened to them complain and cry about how high their house payments are and how expensive gas prices were.

When I suggested selling the jet skis to pay for the house payment they looked at me like I was insane. Instead they are hoping the govt will bail them out. Like its the govt that forced you to buy concert tickets and jet skis.
Are you adult or children?

You cant blame the govt or big wig corporate USA for this happening, its of our own making. Time to rethink our priorities and remember what is really important to be happy.

Maybe this whole thing will be a good thing. It may force people to rethink what is really important and what is needed to be happy.

You cannot blame American's for wanting better things than our past generations. We live out a little further because of the violence, noise, school systems. I could go on. My husband works for
Chrysler and I am proud of him. All the goods in America are not American made anymore. What are we to do if companies move out of American and pays someone $1.00 a day?

MotherBoniX2, I do not blame us for wanting better things but it's our own fault that we buy things we can't afford. We get ARM's so we can buy a bigger house than we can afford and the first time the interest rate is adjusted upwards we can't afford the payment. We max out credit cards then default on the balance.
Chrysler is a great company but when you make about $30 bucks an a hour and a new costs more than $20,000 how can most folks afford to buy one. Throw in higher gas prices and what do you get? Chrysler closing down and laying off employees.
The mess we find this country in is of our own making.

LarryA2J, you mention Chrysler's new cars costing more than $20,000. Have you checked the average price of a Toyota, Nissan, Honda or a Mazda?? You mention Chrysler employees make about $30 an hour. Do you know what a non union Toyota employee makes?? About $19 an hour. The problem is corporate greed!!! I agree with you about America and our wasteful spending, but the real problem is Corporate America, and do I need to mention our wonderful Government??

I also want to add that if Chrysler started to pay non union wages, do you think they would lower the price of cars and trucks??? NO and Ford and Chevy would not either---All the forign cars and trucks are way over priced too!!! Corporate Greed!!!

Jwebster, I discussed corporate greed in earlier blogs but that is only part of the problem. As far as the Government, the only problem they can fix is the "Police Action" in Iraq. They DO NOT set prices for consumer goods, they regulate some utilities but that is about it. The President CAN NOT control greedy big oil.
PS: Want to get rich quick???? Be a lawyer.

Larry, I agree about being a lawyer, dont forget about AB shareholders---they also will get rich quick

That's another issue, the shareholders want AB to sell out to a foreign company so they can make an extra buck or two. If they want to sell let them but don't destroy part of America in doing so.
What's really ironic is that no matter how rich or greedy you are the odds of dying are one in one. Everybody WILL die someday and when you go you will leave it all behind.

Do any of you understand the basic economics of your country? We have built our base on automobile sales and new home building. That is it! Blame whatever you desire, yet without the auto industry and new home sales, we are literally sunk.
It is time for many to understand, it does not matter if gas is 5 dollars a gallon. The movers and shakers have refused to respond to the fundamental issues that control our economy. Home sales and Auto sales are our economic stability. Think about it.

Its time for Americans to remember what our ancestors fought for! They wanted a better life, but worked hard to achieve it. They did without and were good folks who appreciated what they achieved. I agree with others that it is what we have done to ourselves.... get rich quick... is the motto of most people... forget who you have to stomp on to get there... don't make payments and hope the govt. will bail you out. I don't care who the people are, in my book there is not a person alive worth some of the high wages that are being paid. I take that back, possibly the men/women who work with the wires that give us electricity and then I have to wonder about that.

I think this cycle is almost necessary for us. I too find it ridiculous for many to pay $4 for a cup of coffee, or pay for water. The many who chose to buy into the inflated home situation are learning a tough lesson. Who really needs a 5,000 sq ft home?
Tough times bring out the creativity in people. Hopefully it will teach them some constraint...
I also agree with the high wages issue. Isn't that part of our problem in purchasing? I want made in America products. Apparently, we cannot afford to pay even a pet toy manufacturer to produce a toy for my dog! I do not trust China for anything I consume, much less for an animal.
