Sarah Palin is governor of a state which may not have a large population (it's just a bit less than Joe Biden's Delaware), but it's an energy state with resources which are critical to the nation's economy and security. Sarah Palin is CEO of a state which has the 5th largest Gross Domestic State Product (GDSP) of all "57" U.S. states. She presides over 15,000 employees and an annual budget of $16.2 Billion, from which she saved her taxpayers $231 million through use of the line item veto. When she became governor, Alaska was facing hundreds of millions of dollars in budget deficits. In just two years time, she turned that into a $7.2 Billion surplus.

Gov. Palin has direct appointment authority over 122 state boards and commissions in her state. Before being elected governor, she served on one of those boards, the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission, which she chaired while also serving as Ethics Supervisor. She also served on the Interstate Oil and Gas Compact Commission.

She has many achievements as Alaska's governor, the most important of which was pushing a bill through her legislature to authorize a natural gas pipeline which will supply the lower 48 states with trillions of cubic feet of badly needed natgas, and she signed it into law. This is something no other public figure in Alaska or indeed, the entire United States, has been able to accomplish in 30 years of trying.

She is Commander of Alaska's National Guard, which includes shared command of the 49th Missile Defense Battalion. It is the unit that protects the entire nation from ballistic missile attacks. Unlike other Guard units, the 49th is on permanent active duty. As governor, Palin is also the commander of the Alaska State Defense Force (ASDF), a federally recognized militia incorporated into Homeland Security's counterterrorism plans. Given the startegic importance of the 49th, Gov. Palin has been given military and intelligence briefings. Considering Alaska's proximity to Russia, this is very important.

Obama running his campaign (with the critical assistance of his campaign manager, communications director, policy advisors, and others) pales in comparison to Governor Palin's real executive admistrative experience.

      I recently attended a showing of 'Superman 3,' here at LSA

      Anaconda. We have a large auditorium we use for movies, as well as

      memorial services and other large gatherings. As is the custom back in

      the States, we stood and snapped to attention when the National Anthem

      began before the main feature. All was going as planned until about

      three-quarters of the way through The National Anthem the music stopped.

      Now, what would happen if this occurred with 1,000 18-22

      year-olds back in the States? I imagine there would be hoots, catcalls,

      laughter, a few rude comments; and everyone would sit down and call for

      a movie. Of course, that is, if they had stood for the National Anthem

      in the first place. Here, the 1,000 Soldiers continued to stand at

      attention, eyes fixed forward. The music started again. The Soldiers

      continued to quietly stand at attention. And again, at the same point,

      the music stopped.

      What would you expect to happen? Even here I would imagine

      laughter, as everyone finally sat down and expected the movie to start.

      But here, you could have heard a pin drop. Every Soldier continued to

      stand at attention. Suddenly there was a lone voice, then a dozen, and

      quickly the room was filled with the voices of a thousand soldiers,

      finishing where the recording left off:

      'And the rockets red glare,

      The bombs bursting in air,

      Gave proof through the night

      That our flag was still there.

      Oh, say does that star-spangled banner yet wave,

      O'er the land of the free

      And the home of the brave.'

      It was the most inspiring moment I have had here in  Iraq . I

      wanted you to know what kind of Soldiers are serving you here.

      Remember them as they fight for you! Pass this along as a reminder to

      others to be ever in prayer for all our soldiers serving us here at home

      and abroad. For many have already paid the ultimate price.

Green Party delegates selected former Democratic Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney of Georgia as the party's presidential nominee on Saturday in wrapping up their convention in Chicago, Ruth Weill, the party's national convention coordinator, said.

McKinney tapped Rosa Clemente, a hip-hop artist, journalist and activist, as her running mate as the party seeks to turn its progressive agenda into automatic ballot status in several states.

A Green Party official, meanwhile, said he misspoke when he told the Tribune for a story Friday that the Greens had borrowed money from party members to help pay for their Chicago convention. Scott McLarty, the Green Party's spokesman, said the loan had been authorized by top party officials, but no borrowing had taken place

A South Florida woman has been charged with theft and extortion, accused by police of kidnapping a family's cat and holding it for ransom in hopes of getting her dog returned.

Police said it all began in May when Linda Urioste's black Labrador Scooby disappeared from her Greenacres home.

The dog was picked up by Animal Care and Control and held for five days before being adopted by Jutta Hollar and her husband.

Hollar told WPBF News 25 that they had the pup -- now named "Buddy" -- about two weeks when they received word that Urioste had stopped by Animal Care and Control looking for him.

Hollar said that she and her husband were considering returning the dog until they met with Urioste to discuss the situation.

"But she was very rude and yelled at us and treated us really not very nice," Hollar told WPBF.

She said that they decided that Buddy was staying put when Urioste threatened to sue them.

A few days after the confrontation, Hollar realized that the family's cat, Mitz, was gone from her usual outside spot. Hollar began to wonder where the cat could have gone when she received a phone call from Urioste.

"I was the used-to-be-owner, but I was wondering if you were missing a gray BOOGEDY cat. Because a BOOGEDY cat ran out in front of my car not far from your house and I saved its life. I almost ran him over. So, I was just wondering how you are enjoying Scooby, because I am enjoying your BOOGEDY cat while he is in his crate. You call it crate, I call it a cage. Have a nice day," Urioste is heard saying on a answering machine tape.

Greenacres police said that Urioste admitted to them that she had the cat and refused to give it back unless the Hollars gave her dog back.

Urioste was arrested and charged with theft and extortion.

Mitz was returned to the Hollars' home safely.

"When I realized what she had done, it was just unbelievable. Just unbelievable," Hollar told WPBF.

Urioste did not return a phone call for comment. According to a police report, she told police that she waited so long to look for her dog because she thought he had been stolen.

  The seven dwarfs always left to go work in the mine early each morning.  

As always, Snow White stayed home doing her domestic chores. As lunchtime approached, she would prepare their lunch and carry it to the mine.

One day as she arrived at the mine with the lunch, she saw that there had been a terrible cave-in. Tearfully, and fearing the worst, Snow White began calling out, hoping against hope that the dwarfs had somehow survived.

'Hello!...Hello!' she shouted. 'Can anyone hear me? Hello!'

For a long while, there was no answer. Losing hope, Snow White again shouted, 'Hello! Is anyone down there?' Just as she was about to give up all hope, she heard a faint voice from deep within the mine, singing . . ..

'Vote for Barack Obama! - Vote for Barack Obama!'

Snow White fell to her knees, crossed herself and prayed, 'Oh, thank you, God! At least Dopey is still alive...

It’s becoming increasingly clear what the Democratic campaign strategy is going to be this election season: Vote for Obama or you’re a racist. I’m not sure I think too much of this approach to bullying the American electorate into selecting a candidate. Aside from the fact that, if you’re a Republican, it’s always a mistake to let your adversary define you, it also seems to me to free people from certain otherwise laudatory restraints.

As for me, because I’m preemptively being defined as a racist (since I most certainly won’t vote for Obama), I’ve decided to step up to the plate and embrace that definition. From here on in, I’ve got my mantra.

When I vote against Obama on November 4, 2008:

• It won’t be because Obama wants to withdraw from Iraq, which I think will weaken America’s interests beyond repair, it will be because I’m a racist.
• It won’t be because Obama thinks that a nuclear Iran is no threat to the Western World, it will be because I’m a racist.
• It won’t be because I think it’s an incredibly stupid idea for the most powerful nation in the world to approach evil totalitarian dictators as a supplicant, it will be because I’m a racist.
• It won’t be because I hate the idea of a President who will subordinate America’s interests to the UN (as he inevitably will), it will be because I’m a racist.
• It won’t be because Obama has the thinnest resume ever in the history of Presidential candidates, it will be because I’m a racist.
• It won’t be because I think Obama’s Leftist connections (Ayres, Dohrn, Soros, Pfleger, Wright, etc.) show him to be either stupid about or complicit with an agenda antithetical to basic American values, it will be because I’m a racist.
• It won’t be because Obama consistently chooses as advisers people who have opted for the wrong side in the completely binary debate about Israel’s right to exist, it will be because I’m a racist.
• It won’t be because Obama wants to socialize American medicine, which I believe will destroy the high quality of medical care available to most Americans, it will be because I’m a racist.
• It won’t be because Obama wants to gut the military and reduce us to a nation with a big target painted on our collective backside, it will be because I’m a racist.
• It won’t be because Obama wants to gut the Second Amendment and destroy Americans’ Constitutional right to protect themselves from foreign and domestic enemies, it will be because I’m a racist.
• It won’t be because Obama has already announced loud and clear that he will support activist judges who place their “feelings” above the law, it will be because I’m a racist.
• It won’t be because Obama supports judicial decisions creating a right to gay marriage, when I think that decision is one for the voters, it will be because I’m a racist.
• It won’t be because Obama’s announced that he will dramatically increase taxes, putting the slow, inflexible, ill-informed government in charge of what should be a quick-reacting, knowledgeable marketplace, it will be because I’m a racist.
• It won’t be because Obama’s record in the Senate (albeit short and undistinguished) has been so liberal he makes Teddy Kennedy look like a reactionary, it will be because I’m a racist.
• It won’t be because Obama’s an open-borders kind of guy, it will be because I’m a racist.
• It won’t be because Obama has shown himself to be a scarily slow thinker and speaker when released from the teleprompter (which really doesn’t bode well for those cozy private chats with Ahmadinejad, Jong-Il, and Assad), it will be because I’m a racist.
• It won’t be because Obama’s wife clearly loathes America and everything it stands for, despite the fact that she’s done pretty well out of it, it will be because I’m a racist.
• It won’t be because Obama was affiliated for more than 20 years with a church that preached white hatred and began to care only when it looked as if it would affect his campaign, it will be because I’m a racist.
• It won’t be because Obama was good buddies with Tony Rezko, and other sleazy characters (showing again that Obama was complicit or a singularly bad judgment of character), it will be because I’m a racist.
• It won’t be because Obama’s a compulsive liar who clearly thinks we in the public are too stupid to catch up with his lies, it will be because I’m a racist.
• It won’t be because Obama’s campaign has proven to be fly-paper for every two bit troofer and anti-Semite in America, it will be because I’m a racist.
• It won’t be because Obama’s promised already to start down the totalitarian path of purging his predecessors through criminal prosecutions, it will be because I’m a racist.

All things considered, when I think about being a racist as I’ve defined it, not as they have, let me say it loud and let me say it proud: I am a racist — and, on November 4, 2008, this racist is not voting for Obama.

Talk about putting your most valuable where your mouth is!  Apparently this was not 'newsworthy' enough for the media to comment about.  Can either of the other presidential candidates truthfully come close to this?
Just a question for each of us to seek an answer and not a statement.
 
You see...character is what's shown when the public is not looking.  There were no cameras or press invited to what you are about to read about, and the story comes from one person in New Hampshire.

One evening last July, Senator John McCain of Arizona arrived at the New Hampshire home of Erin Flanagan for sandwiches, chocolate-chip cookies and a heartfelt talk about Iraq.  They had met at a presidential debate, when she asked the candidates what they would do to bring home American soldiers - - soldiers like her brother, who had been killed in action a few months earlier.

Mr. McCain did not bring cameras or press.  Instead, he brought his youngest son, James McCain, 19, then a private first class in the Marine Corps about to leave for Iraq. Father and son sat down to hear more about Ms. Flanagan's brother Michael Cleary, a 24-year-old Army First Lieutenant killed by an ambush ... a roadside bomb.

No one mentioned the obvious: In just days, Jimmy McCain could face similar perils.  'I can't imagine what it must have been like for them as they were coming to meet with a family that ......' Ms. Flanagan recalled, choking up.  'We lost a dear one,' she finished.

Mr. McCain, now the presumptive Republican nominee, has staked his candidacy on the promise that American troops can bring stability to Iraq.  What he almost never says is that one of them is his own son, who spent seven months patrolling Anbar Province and learned of his father's New Hampshire victory in January while he was digging a stuck military vehicle out of the mud.

Two of Jimmy's three older brothers went into the military. Doug McCain, 48, was a Navy pilot.  Jack McCain, 21, is to graduate from the Naval Academy next year, raising the chances that his father, if elected, could become the first president since Dwight D. Eisenhower with a son at war. 

We hear so much inflated trash out there.  How about a simple act of kindness ... and dedication to others placed above oneself?

Has anybody heard if Barack Hussein Obama has served in The American Armed Services?

I wish I'd gotten this yesterday.   I feel so stupid.

This is the story of our Grandmothers, and Great-Grandmothers, as they lived only 90 years ago. It was not until 1920 that women were granted the right to go to the polls and vote.

Thus unfolded the 'Night of Terror' on Nov. 15, 1917, when the warden at the Occoquan Workhouse in Virginia ordered his guards to teach a lesson to the suffragists imprisoned there because they dared to picket Woodrow Wilson's White House for the right to vote. The women were innocent and defenseless. And by the end of the night, they were barely alive. Forty prison guards wielding clubs and their warden's blessing went on a rampage against the 33 women wrongly convicted of 'obstructing sidewalk traffic.'

They beat Lucy Burn, chained her hands to the cell bars above her head and left her hanging for the night, bleeding and gasping for air. They hurled Dora Lewis into a dark cell, smashed her head against an iron bed and knocked her out cold. Her cell mate, Alice Cosu, thought Lewis was dead and suffered a heart attack. Additional affidavits describe the guards grabbing, dragging, beating, choking, slamming, pinching, twisting and kicking the women.

When one of the leaders, Alice Paul, embarked on a hunger strike, they tied her to a chair, forced a tube down her throat and poured liquid into her until she vomited. ShFor weeks, the women's only water came from an open pail. Their food--all of it colorless slop--was infested with worms. e was tortured like this for weeks until word was smuggled out to the press.
So, refresh my memory. Some women won't vote this year because--why, exactly? We have carpool duties? We have to get to work? Our vote doesn't matter? It's raining?
Last week, I went to a sparsely attended screening of HBO's new movie 'Iron Jawed Angels.' It is a graphic depiction of the battle these women waged so that I could pull the curtain at the polling booth and have my say. I am ashamed to say I needed the reminder.

All these years later, voter registration is still my passion. But the actual act of voting had become less personal for me, more rote. Frankly, voting often felt more like an obligation than a privilege. Sometimes it was inconvenient.

My friend Wendy, who is my age and studied women's history, saw the HBO movie, too. When she stopped by my desk to talk about it, she looked angry. She was--with herself. 'One thought kept coming back to me as I watched that movie,' she said. 'What would those women think of the way I use--or don't use--my right to vote? All of us take it for granted now, not just younger women, but those of us who did seek to learn.' The right to vote, she said, had become valuable to her 'all over again.'

HBO released the movie on video and DVD. I wish all history, social studies and government teachers would include the movie in their curriculum. I want it shown on Bunco night, too, and anywhere else women gather. I realize this isn't our usual idea of socializing, but we are not voting in the numbers that we should be, and I think a little shock therapy is in order.

It is jarring to watch Woodrow Wilson and his cronies try to persuade a psychiatrist to declare Alice Paul insane so that she could be permanently institutionalized. And it is inspiring to watch the doctor refuse. Alice Paul was strong, he said, and brave. That didn't make her crazy.

The doctor admonished the men: 'Courage in women is often mistaken for insanity.'

Please, if you are so inclined, pass this on to all the women you know. We need to get out and vote and use this right that was fought so hard for by these very courageous women. Whether you vote democratic, republican or independent party - remember to vote.

History is being made.

The best lawyer story of all time...bar none.

The United Way realized that it had never received a donation from the city's most successful lawyer. So a United Way volunteer paid the lawyer a visit in
his lavish office.

The volunteer opened the meeting by saying, 'Our research shows that even though your annual income is over two million dollars, you don't give a penny
to charity.   Wouldn't you like to give something back to your community through the United Way?'

The lawyer thinks for a minute and says, 'First, did your research also show you that my mother is dying after a long, painful illness and she has huge
medical bills that are far beyond her ability to pay?'

Embarrassed, the United Way rep mumbles, 'Uh... no, I didn't know that.'
 
'Secondly,' says the lawyer, ' did it show that my brother, a disabled veteran, is blind and confined to a wheelchair and is unable to support his wife and six children?

The stricken United Way rep begins to stammer an apology, but is cut off again.

'Thirdly, did your research also show you that my sister's husband died in dreadful car accident, leaving her penniless with a mortgage and three children, one of whom is disabled and another that
has learning disabilities requiring an array of private tutors?'

The humiliated United Way rep, completely beaten, says, 'I'm so sorry, I had no idea.'

And the lawyer says, 'So...if I didn't give any money to them, what makes you think I'd give any to you?

1. 'Why did I marry her? Why didn't I just put a loaded gun in my mouth? Why God, Why?'

2. 'Holy BOOGEDY, look at that ass. Somewhere, a semi-truck is missing its 'Oversized Load' sign.'

3. 'Somewhere, there's two girls naked in a hot tub and I'm stuck here listening to her jabber on about health care.'

What a way to start the day!

There I was on my way to Wal-Mart... getting into a fight was the farthest thing from my mind ... wasn't even on the horizon ... I was in a great mood ... and then ... I rear-ended a car.

So there we are alongside the road and slowly the driver gets out of the car ... and you know how you just-get-sooo-stressed and life-stuff seems to get funny?

Yeah, well, I could NOT believe it ... he was a DWARF! He storms over to my car, looks up at me and says,'I AM NOT HAPPY!'

So, I look down at him and said, 'Well, which one are you then?'

.........and that's when the fight started . .
