Kasey20's Blog

People in the office are telling me that my first blog is horrible. They tell me if I am such a huge fan than I need to write about Nascar.....So here it is....First of all I am pretty disappointed that Tony did not make the chase. For someone to be so dominate in the sport and to miss it by such a little margin is a little hard to take. However, with that said, I am so happy for those other drivers who made the chase. Especially Denny Hamlin and Mark Martin. I would love to see Mark win in his last full season. Anyway, I have so much more to say on this topic, but write me back and let me know who your favorite driver is or what you think about the chase!

I agree with you on the comment about Mark Martin. It would be nice to see him win in his last full season. My two favorite drivers are Dale Jr. and Harvick. I'm so happy that Harvick has a great chance to win the championship. If I had to choose one driver to cheer for in the chase it would be Harvick. Thank goodness I can cheer for as many of them as I want. I'm very disappointed in the report that the speed tv reporter had about the tire issue with RCR. I read that NASCAR checked everything and it's fine so I hope this doesn't affect the mindset of RCR now. I just think it's a certain other team not liking the fact that their driver isn't in the points lead right now. Just my opinion.

My personal favorites to win the chase or who I would like to see win the chase would be Mark Martin since he has never won it and Jeff Burton because he is a team player and has helped rebuild RCR.

I have to say my favorite driver is Ryan Newman in the 12 car for two reasons- 12 is my "favorite" number and he's easy on the eyes. I know, not the criteria most people use to pick their favorites, but who cares!

BTW, I saw into Bobby Labonte in the lobby of the Westin Hotel here in St. Louis last month. I was too embarrassed to say anything, but pretty cool nonetheless. I guess he was in town for some sort of charity event. He's a fellow Texan, so I guess I'll add him to my list of favorites along with Larry Foyt (although he's bouncing between IRL and NASCAR). I met Larry and his father at Indy years ago and was pretty impressed for him being such a young driver.

Tony Stewart not making the cut is a huge disappointment for me too, especially when he missed it by such a small margin! I am a huge fan of Stewart, which stems from the fact that he came up through the ranks of open wheel racing and still contributes hugely to the preservation of the sport through his ownership of USAC race teams and Eldora Speedway. He is also a major player in the success of the Petty Family's Victory Junction Gang Camp, having contributed over $2 million dollars in the last 3 years.

I have a huge affinity for the former Sprint Car drivers who are now racing in the Cup Series because I watched most of them back when they were still driving on dirt. One of Stewart's current USAC Sprint/Silver Crown drivers, Josh Wise, recently signed with Michael Waltrip Racing and will be moving on up to the Big Show. He, like his predecessors, J.J. Yeley and Kasey Kahne will definitely be one to watch. Wise currently leads the USAC Sprint point standings.

Shawn, based purely on the eye-candy factor, I would have to choose Kasey Kahne as my favorite driver. Those eyes and that smile make him an obvious choice!

I am very glad that someone besides me is doing a racing blog. Way to go, Kasey20!

I was so happy to see Jimmy Johnson and Kyle Busch have bad days on Sunday. Jimmy has been lucky throughout the year without having a DNF. It hurts bad when statistics show that if you do poorly in the first race of the chase than your chances of winner are slim to none.

Shawn, I can see why you like Ryan Newman, however I have to go with Kasey Kahne or Reed Sorensen.

Does Dick Trickle still race? I've always been a fan of him as well as that guy with the blue shirt, white helmet, old-fashioned driver with no sponsors plastered all over everything. . . oh yeah, it's Speed Racer! (imagine music here and my sweet baritone voice) Go Speed Racer, Go Speed Racer, Go Speed Racer Go!

I'm torn. Ever since Rusty retired, I have not been able to pick a new favorite. My husband loves Junior,I'm Starting to lean towards Hamlin. As a family, we go to alot of races. My nine year old daughter loves the LaBonte brothers. It is too bad for Tony, he should be in the Chase.Im glad Junior got in though. The rest of the season should be quite interesting...

Someone mentioned Dick Trickle, so I thought I would share this. Funny thing about this release, the first time we received it, Dick's last name was mis-spelled as "Tickle." Insert jokes here.

Short-Track Racing Legend Dick Trickle to Receive Bobby Isaac Memorial Award Prior to Dollar General 300

by Jerry Gappens

CONCORD, N.C. -- Short-track racing legend Dick Trickle will receive the Bobby Isaac Memorial Award during pre-race ceremonies for the Dollar General 300 NASCAR Busch Series race Friday night, Oct. 13, at Lowe’s Motor Speedway.

The Bobby Isaac Memorial Award is presented annually by Lowe’s Motor Speedway to an individual or group in recognition of outstanding contribution to short-track racing. Isaac, one of the sport’s outstanding racers, was well known for his short-track exploits and commitment, and it is in his honor the award is named.

While detailed records were not kept, some estimates put Trickle’s career win total at nearly 1,200. The native of Wisconsin Rapids, Wis., was a dominant force in late model stock car racing throughout the Midwest for decades.

His amazing résumé also includes American Speed Association championships in 1984 and 1985, a period many consider to have been the most competitive in the touring late model series’ long history.

After having made sporadic starts in the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series beginning in 1970, Trickle became a series regular in 1989 and earned Rookie-of-the-Year honors at age 48. He continued to race in NASCAR’s premier division until 2002, recording 36 top-10 finishes in 303 races.

Well, being a Missouri girl for almost 50 yrs., I root for the Missouri guys. I went to school with Rusty and he'll always be my favorite, but I still cheer on Carl Edwards, Kenny Schrader, the other 2 Wallace boys, and Jaimie McMurray. Anytime Jeff Gordon, Kyle Busch, Jimmy Johnson, or Kurt Busch has a bad day, its a good day for me.
