What is this poetry thing really about
Why it is just simply everything and all about life
You may choose to share your feelings with others
Or simply describe something special you’ve seen

You can use it to teach in an interesting way
Or explain your own thoughts on whatever you choose
You can create it with rhyme or just use a rhythmic flow
But it’s always about life so not always pretty

Creating your poetry of course can be hard
But like a medicine it can be good for your soul
Sometimes all it takes is to write your thoughts down
For your pains to be eased and the healing begun

Poetry writing is good exercise for the mind
It’s an interesting discipline of ordering words
The greater your vocabulary the easier it can be
And even beginners like me can create poetry worth reading

Cats can be extremely graceful in their feline ways
Yet also prove to be quite foolish and clumsy
When hunting they seem so surefooted and quiet
But when exploring they’re often falling and stumbling

Most of their leaps are amazing and sure
And mucking up most often they’ll land on their feet
I love when they leap straight up then flip in the air
Like when they’re after a butterfly high over their head

Cats in general have a wonderfully regal appearance
But if they somehow get soaked they look simply pathetic
Their explorations can take them into the tightest of places
But if they then have to back out now they’re in trouble

All it will take is just a ball or some string
Then even the adult becomes a kitten once more
Anything that moves will grab their attention
And these little fur balls are so cute when they play

Cats are great pets and give their owners such joy
Like when they cuddle up and turn on their purr
And whatever they’re up to they can always surprise us
Then we’ll break out in laughter at these silly fur balls

What joys a child in the country may have
Hiking, exploring, or just wandering about
With the curiosity of youth they’ll cover many a mile
And there’s always the adventures they’ll stop to play out

A broken down shed that may have been home to a trapper
Or maybe a prospector who was searching for gold
A rope tied to a tree branch and suddenly you’re Tarzan
Or making a bow then you’re an Indian hunting

You’re the hero out looking to save the young woman
That villain who kidnapped her is around here somewhere
Or kill the big dragon and rescue the damsel
The king will then knight me and I’ll be a hero

Look it’s a beaver pond so let’s make a raft
I’ll be Huck Finn and you are Tom Sawyer
We’ll pole around the pond enjoying our stay
What glorious luck we found this wonderful place

Without packing a lunch they’ll seldom go hungry
For all summer long there are berries to find
And if when running and playing they come upon some
Then it’s time for a feast that sates hunger and thirst

A child in the country doesn’t need lots of money
He doesn’t need theaters or coin-sucking arcades
His imagination is plenty out there in the woods
And if boredom does strike there’s always fishing and swimming

She’s my dream this woman I love
Not perfect of course just infinitely exquisite
The love she gives me is honest and true
And mine for her doesn’t skimp even the slightest

Her face is a treasure I get to frequently enjoy
And daily she blesses me with her smiles
Just a smile from her can make my heart dance
And it sings like a joyful bird at her touch

Sometimes I’m surprised I don’t simply explode
From this mass of love I’m feeling inside
Her look and her touch are like magic on me
And the power of it is true love

How can you be weak and full of energy too
But that’s exactly how she makes me feel
I melt at a loving look from her
Yet at the same time feel she’s given me power

And time and the world can disappear with a lingering hug
There’s just us and nothing and nobody else
She’s a beautiful gift from God just for me
That’s the only thing that can possibly explain our love

You’re important no matter your station in life
Even if not rich or famous at all
You are more rare than the hardest to find jewels
And you can’t be replaced because you’re one of a kind

So who will you be because this is your choice
Will you choose to be trash more worthless than dirt
Maybe you’ll choose to be someone of value
But it’s all up to you because you control you

No matter what anyone says or does to you
You are the boss of the one who is you
Will you make people smile and bring cheer to their day
Or just be another pain and irritant to us

Did others who hurt you make you feel good
Or those who treated you like trash earn your respect
You get to choose the character you’ll be
Remember, only you can be you
