We do not live in a democracy.  Catering to individual greed and selfishness, even to the determent of the entire country is what our so-called democracies are all about.  In our so-called democracies everyone claims their own individual freedom rights even to the point of demanding the law throw away the religious moral rights and beliefs of the majority to cater to them and it is done.  The majority does not rule the world’s so-called democracies.  The reality is that the majority have their so-called rights trampled under to cater to minority interests.

Where is the pretence of the majority rules when the courts are allowed to twist the meaning of laws to promote their own personal ideals of catering to individual greed and selfishness even to the determent of the entire country?  The election process itself proves that democracies promote individual selfishness and not the majority rule because, to get elected, the politicians have to cater to loud mouthed selfish groups that can give him/her their grouped votes in tightly contested ridings or give them to his/her opponent.  So the politicians cater to the wealthy for their election campaign funds and retirement opportunities and to those minority groups for their immediate selfish interest of getting elected and re-elected.  Consider the recent action in the US where the majority of the people worked feverishly to tell the politicians that they did not want them to pass the $700 Billion Bailout package yet the politicians ignored them and did as they pleased.  Was that democracy at work?  I wonder if they’ll have another tea party.

There are an awful lot of people complaining about the state of the economy, yet those same people don’t seem to realize that the basic democratic freedom economy that allows everyone to seek their own path to happiness and profit, without responsibility or concern for others, is what caused all the economic problems.  The many companies that shuffled so many jobs out of America were just following the opportunities the governments gave them, and only seeking their individual rights to cater to their own selfish interests with no concern for the resulting affects on others which is what our democracies promote.  The same as the banks and financial companies that also put their quick profit above the concerns of the country to sell and trade those mortgages that were designed with the full knowledge that most of them would fail were also only following their democratic right to seek their enjoyment and self interests even if at the expense of the entire country.

There is no real democracy on Earth.  The wealthy and vilest rule the politicians not the majority of the people.  Democracy is only a pretended concept to keep the masses in line under the false belief that they have control over those who rule them.  The people in our so-called democratic countries are just getting a small sample of what they will eventually reap through pursuing the greedy selfish course with no responsibility or concern for the combined consequences of the practice.

Joe... Unfortunately I have to agree with you in that democracy is not what we all have been told it is. But its not for the lack of trying. Democracy will never have the opportunity it deserves under the Capitalist system. but hey thats life.

Do yourself a favor... Get out and Vote.

As I was informed last month by another blogger, we only preach democracy, we are actually a republic as stated in our pledge of allegiance. We only get to vote on what they want us to vote on. And things might not ever change with long term guys like McCain and
Joe Biden, to many years in public office...

Don't forget that this economic situation was started by a few people (sub-prime mortgage brokers) who got greedy, along with their clients. Don't ever let anyone tell you these people had no idea what they were signing -- they most assuredly did know -- and they didn't care what they had to do to get a very low house payment (for any period of time) or an undocumented mortgage loan -- so that they could "appear" to be more affluent than they actually were. Greed never works!

I won't agrue with your main point here. We are not a democracy.

And I don't think ANY country is a TRUE democracy. True democracy is difficult to enforce, precisely because of human greed and selfishness. Although I abhor it, I also realize it is "nature" - it is the way we were born. Blame God if you want to blame somebody.

My favorite example of greed in life is watching a group of birds gather over a pile of spilled seed or food. While there may be plenty for all, most of the birds will fight for the same few morsels. That's a flaw from nature - a gift from God, if you will.

Our systems attempt to address this, but fail.

But I do think there are systems CLOSER to democracy than ours. France, Italy, Germany, Sweden, and to a lesser extent, England all offer more than two choices for all elections. They have run-off elections between top vote getters. They can vote among all economic philosophies: socialism, capitalism, even communism. Communistic candidates have actually WON in Italy and France before.

But here in the USA? We get a choice of far-right capitalism vs. extreme far-right capitalism. Two candidates, often very much alike. We usually end up voting for the "lesser of two evils".

And you're right about the Bailout. Over 70% of people in this country were against it. We got it anyway. It's "for our own good" Mother Capitalist America told us. And just to show how much I AGREE with your assessment, I told everyone I know beforehand that YES, WE WILL GET THIS BAILOUT - they are only stalling (remember the first vote failed? Made

...Made it look good, didn't it?) What the rich want, the rich get. The rich own America, and most of the world.

Our motto should be "government of the rich, by the rich, for the rich". Because that's what it is.

But I think you'll find better examples of democracy and economic systems in the world than us. Here's MY analysis: We are no longer the "most free" or "most prosperous" or "most democratic" country in the world.

Maybe "most greedy" may be the only title we can claim. But even that title probably goes to Saudi Arabia or Israel!

SikUvRite,

"True democracy is difficult to enforce, precisely because of human greed and selfishness. Although I abhor it, I also realize it is "nature" - it is the way we were born. Blame God if you want to blame somebody."

Actually God gave us all free choice of will, but Satan currently rules over all the Earth so the masses are easily blinded to the truth and nature is in upheaval as well.

It is always easy to look for excuses to not take responsibility for our own actions. That is why people like Hitler are so easily able to get the masses to follow them by encouraging them to blame others for all their life’s troubles. Everyone is currently blaming Wall Street, the bankers, and the financial institutions, when the promotion of individual rights to pursue every greed and selfishness without having to be responsible to anyone is the root of the problem. Things can only get worse as the accumulative results of promoting this type of social system continue to build.

We are not a Democracy in the United States, we are a Republic.

Yet, many in this nation drift along and voice their views but do not vote. In fact many in this nation are not even registered to vote.

A true Republic is one that everyone has to vote, it is there job as a citizen.

That is why many view our nation as more Socialistic than as a Democracy. Because they do not participate in the process of voting.

As to Satan ruling our world, I think not.. Satan can only rule if you let him. And to that point I say No..! God.. will be the overriding factor. Either you believe in the path of God or you do not. That remains up to the individual.

It is true that Satan can only rule you if you choose because God gave us free will but it is also true that most people are blind to the truth, because Satan rules the Earth, so they choose the path of greed and selfishness which allows Satan control over them. Satan gained rule over man and the Earth because of Adam’s and Eve’s sin of disobeying God. Jesus paid our sinful debt to repurchase us to God with His death to become the new ruler over man and the Earth, but Satan has refused to relinquish his control. Jesus will soon return to Earth and forcefully take that which is rightly His from Satan and remove Satan’s influence over man. None of this means that God has relinquished His final say in what will occur, because God uses all individual’s traits to steer them to direct that which He wishes to be promoted to bring about His ends.

Yes, we are technically in a "Republic" as apposed to a "Democracy." "Republic" comes from the Latin, "RES PUBLICAS" meaning, "FOR THE GOOD OF THE PEOPLE." A question rises, "Who does our elected officials represent, who do they do the bidding for??" Ideally, it would be the People, but in recent years, it was those who had money, or had lobbyists to speak for them that had the ear of our representitives.

The recent economic crisis had to do with the imbalance of the economic system for over thirty years. Coupled with the operational theme of "greed" the financial sector made huge errors and unethical actions in order to make the most money in the shortest amount of time. Unfortunately, the government was to regulate such behaviors, fell asleep a the wheel and failed to head off this crisis.

Will this ever change??? It can if we the People demand a Constitutional Convention. In the US Constitution, we are allowed to go to our State Legislators and pass a Constitutional Amendment demanding a Constitutional Convention. It would take 2/3 majority, plus one, to make the Amendment radified. Then each state would send representitives to hash out what changes would be made to the Constitution or if a new form of government would be developed in place of the present government.

Democracy in its most simplistic form is the RIGHT TO A VOICE - VOTE........CLEAN HOUSE ON BOTH SIDES....
We elected the folks that put us where we are now in this financial crisis and turn our heads when we know:
Clinton initiated SUBPRIME Mortgages.
Clinton enacted LAWS to force banks to BUY SUBPRIME.
Clinton warned CONGRESS when Fannie/Freddie were out of control.
DEMs Dodd & Frank ignored Clinton in '99. & DEMs Dodd & Frank ignored Bush 2001-2007, reel in Fannie/Freddie.
DEMs leading Banking & Finance Committee did nothing to investigate F/F.
DEMs blocked 2005 FEDERAL HOUSING REGULATORY REFORM ACT - reel in F/F (McCain, Dole, other GOP) for POLITICAL REASONS & CAMPAIGN CONTRIBUTIONS.
DEMs Dodd, Frank, Pelosi, Reid and Obama blame failed Bush policy for the crisis.

Fannie/Freddie Campaign Contributions '98 - '08

#1 Chris Dodd
#2 Barack Obama
#3 Barney Frank

.....TRUTH & HONOR IN CONGRESS.....CHANGE IS NEEDED.....
