Is the US in a recession?  I think the worst is yet to come.

The American dollar is becoming a liability.  The smart money is switching to the Euro.

Soon the world’s big oil suppliers will demand oil be priced and paid in Euros instead of the continually faltering American buck, and we’ll have to buy imported oil using Euros because no one will want to get stuck with US dollars.

Still the US legislators insist on throwing $160 Billion foolishly into the market as a pretended economic stimulation package, instead of using the money to promote the country towards a financially stable footing by requiring the money be spent in specific US markets that will stimulate and protect our economy.

People without good jobs can’t spend the money our country needs to sustain our consumer driven society or pay the taxes our government needs to operate and pay its bills, so we have to create many new jobs to replace the large number of good paying jobs that have been moved out of the country.  And the more locally produced power we create the less oil we’ll need to import to meet our needs.  It can’t get any simpler than that.  These two simple factors in an equation that will help protect or destroy our economy, depending on whether or not we properly address them.

The $160 Billion should be mostly spent to promote local business and employment growth in local energy creating, and some other infrastructure works as well.  It wouldn’t require waiting until May to create economic activity and the money would be already spent promoting the US economy before the $160 Billion is given out by the government under the right plan.

The US has little time left to protect against the economy tanking big time.

My “Open Letter to North American Politicians” addresses the threats we are facing and I continue under “The US Stimulation Package 1 and 2”, at: http://community.myfoxstl.com/blogs/JosephThePoeta>

Since the mid term elections the democrats sure did screw things up.

People look at what is said but do nothing to change it. If everyone would take the time to write their Senators and Congressmen maybe a change would happen.

bubba, it was screwed up long before Dems got control. If you think it wasn't, then you must have been asleep for a while. The war is draining this country and I don't think any person with a minimal amount of intellgence could possibly have missed that. You spew all the time like the Reps have done something that has made this country more stable, more prosperous. Obviously you can't see past the end of your nose. Too bad, keep believing in their dying message. The rest of us hope a change will help this country. I don't care if it is Dem or Rep, I just want a change from the same old good ole boy crap, period.

Hmmmmm, let me see . . . if I get $600 where will it go . . . to Schnuck's or Shop n Save, to Ameren UE, to Charter, to local medical providers. Seems like that Federal stimulus is going to benefit the local economy. It also will put back a couple hundred that I have to pay in April . . . April 15th to be exact!

Let's say the money goes to big business . . . they spend it overseas to handle their manufacturing and call centers. How does that help us again?

There is no question the war is costly. All wars have been. Ending it without victory will cost us alot more. We should go to a war bond program to help fund it. I don't see how raising taxes will help anybody.

If this country is in a recession how is it there are so many people purchasing video game systems. On the news they said you can't keep them and the games on the shelves. How come big screen TVs are going out the doors of electronic stores with boxes and boxes of computers. Seems like everyone is walking around with cell phones. Look at the number of people who pay the monthly for cable, satellite, and the internet.

Ah, this is just another rightist conservative pro-big-business idea floating about as a moderate plan.

Isn't "...spent to promote local business and employment growth in local energy creating" just another phrase for "tax breaks for big business and welfare for the wealthiest"??

The problem with the 160B is it isn't going to be enough to save the economy from the wasteland of corporate de-regulation, corporate welfare handouts, and huge tax breaks for the richest of the rich - the centerpiece of the agenda of the far right Republicans - that got us into this mire in the first place.

We've already given private industry the bank (literally! as we help the competition buy Bear Stearns), all the huge tax breaks anybody could imagine, and de-regulated to the point of anything goes, and look what happened.

The conservative agenda for this country's economy DOES NOT WORK - it hasn't for eight years, it didn't during the Reagan years, and it's not going to work now. It's over. Done with.

I saw a bumper sticker this morning: "Anybody but a Liberal in '08". My, how that pathetic wing of society just won't get over it. Why not? Have we even tried anything CLOSE to "liberal" in anything in the last 25 years? It's CONSERVATIVE that has ruined everything, and it is NOT the answer.

A study showed recently that a wide majority of Americans agree with virtually all "liberal" concepts, if it is not presented with that label. In other words, Americans are more "liberal" than they even want to believe. We've been brainwashed it's a bad word, like "communism" or "so

..."socialism", when in fact it better represents the true values of most Americans than any other agenda.

In other words, we've tried "conservative" for 25 years now, and it ain't working.

It's time to maybe try "liberal", just to see what might happen.

Of course, that means some among us may have to pay their fair share of taxes on what they had handed to them, and I know that won't be popular with them. But, if the privileged rich don't like it, maybe they can go back to actually creating something or competing fairly in a true competitive market, instead of the controlled-market system of "privatunism" we have now, where the rich get richer for doing or contributing absolutely nothing to the economy i.e. the Bush family.

And of course, ending this toilet bowl waste of a disaster - the Iraq war - would help the economy, well, except of course the rich goons of the military-industrial complex.

Change is coming. That's what change is.

Whether that stubborn 40% of the people like it or not.

SikUv more name calling without facts to prove any of your statements. Socialism doesn't work ask eastern Europe. While socialism was failing capitolism has been on a 25 year roll. With the improvement of everybodies well being in the US. We have seen the percent of the so called rich increase to the largest number in the history of the world. Getting to be rich is a good thing for everybody.I don't think the union members who work in the military industrial complex look at themselfs as the rich goons you call them.

The people without money like me lol would use the money to get needed products like toiletry items, etc and then I would save for hard times if I could do it. I think we are in trouble because the economy relies on people going into debt to purchase products and then Americans end up with high interest on credit cards.

I agree with cutey we need to all ban together and write our senators and representatives. Yet we have a market economy and it should take care of itself with various govt interventions. If it was me and I was getting the rebate I would probably buy a few things and save the rest.

"Anybody but a Liberal in '08" that is so old. For years there have been bumper stickers that say:
Anybody but a Republican (Democrat)
Anybdoy but Hillary
Friends don't let friends vote Republican (democrat)
and of course one of my favorites the ones who can't get over it. This one goes back to the 70's:
Don't blame me I voted ......... (fill in any candidate who has lost)

Lets not forget the billions spent on a war that nobody wants except for Haliburton.

You are so right, imapayne, seems as though the only ones benefitting from the billions spent on this war are Haliburton and the other rich goons of the military-industrial complex! Boeing included!

Yeah, Flaglady, those are old ideas. Actually, I had one of the first I can remember of the "Don't Blame Me" series - I had the "I Voted for McGovern" version. That was shortly after Nixon, another conservative, defeated McGovern, the last of the true liberals, and the country's economy started to tank as it usually does after a Republican takes over anything. Because everything was falling apart during Nixon's years, just like now, it was popular for many of us to point out that the result wasn't OUR fault!

For me, these days, I'm going non-partisan: I'm gonna buy a "Anybody But A Conservative in '08" sticker.

And what a coincidence that is! That phrase is also the answer to our economic problems!

How do you judge if a economic program is working. If is that your net worth has increased then the conservative agenda has worked. If is how much you receive from social programs then the results are mixed. The Bush medacare drug program is the largest social program since the social security. How much did Haliburton make last year? There you go calling the hard working union members that work in the military-industrial complex goons again. By the way I supported Robert Kennedy and the capitol gain tax cuts he wanted to put into place like his brother did.

It has been said that if you are not a liberal when you are young you don't have a heart but if you are still a liberal when you get older you don't have a brain
