Your going to have to find some old folk to get some memories of the highlands....... I was 9 when it burned...... I was taken there when I was a kid but can barely remember it.... Chain of Rocks park is the one I remember..... The one thing I did notice in the video is how thin everybody was...... Could it be because here was no fast food back then.....??

We went there for school picnics after the highlands burnt down.

I really dont have much memory of the highlands though

I remember going there with my family, aunt, uncle, grandma, and grandpa for my one sister's birthday. We never got to see something like that, and were awestruck! I do remember it being so sad when it burned. My Mom went there quite a bit from what I understand. She grew up in South St. Louis.

Hey, I didn't tell God I wanted to be born yet.. we were still working out my destiny.. Can you come into the era starting 1969 - present? I am well educated there.

The Highlands was the best I remember asking my grandma to go on the comet over and over again it was the best. We use to have our picnics there all the time. I even got my mom bless her soul to get on the comet with me. I was really heart broke when it burned down.

I think there was an attempt to rebuild the Highlands...... I remember that the Rollercoaster and Ferris Wheel stood for a long time after the fire before it was finally torn down..........

Hey John don't let them yell at you.... I eat lean pockets on the run all the time.... I usually have them for Brunch when I am on the run.... Keeps me going for hours..... Have never tried the one that is recalled though.....

Yea, ok. Fillin' station food ain't bad. I eat it too Wildflower but refuse to eat those wiennies spinning around for months on end on those little wire ferris wheels at the Mobil Station.

The comet has been the only roller coaster I have ever been on. Remember the arcade? I was getting ready to turn 9 the yr. it burned. I remember the fire, I remember going with someone, possibly a neighbor to watch it.
We sat in Forest Park and I remember my mom crying. I went to Mullanphy and yep, first the parade all around the neighborhood, then getting on the chartered bi-state busses for the ride to the Highlands. I don't remember the pool, I remember the one at the Chain of Rocks tho. I do remember the dance floor, I wasn't allowed to dance there either, my mom thought I was too young.

The Bobsled, at Forest Park, was scared to death of it. Had many summer visits there. When we went to School picinc 5.00 was a fortune. I watched it burn in 1963 from the ballfields across the street. It was the summer before I was a senior, so long ago.

Where was it located? Especially that olympic sized pool? In Forest Park obviously, but where in Forest Park? They need to rebuild that.

I remember seeing my sister on television at the highlands on the "Cookie and the Captain" show and couldn't wait til I was old enough to get on the roller coaster. Unfortunately, by that time, it had burned down and gone forever, so I was relegated to Chainb of Rocks.

Hello

I ma looking for any good books on the Highlands or video. I am also looking for any sketches or drawing. I once saw a draw of a local artist, the did a picture of the Highlands Amusement Park. My mother turns 70 this year and talk about this place while I was growing up. I would like to give back a little of her childhood to her.

The Bobsled was over by the merry-go-round. The last I remember of it was when I was in about 4th grade, that would have been 55 years ago. I think there was an accident at one time where someone got hurt. It was a ride made of silver tubing and it was high up,but when you are are kid everthing is high up. Also there was an airplane ride.

My husbands birthday is July 19....today in fact....and he reminded me that he was 19 on the day the Highlands burned down....I was 10 at the time and lived across the street from Sublette park on Southwest Ave at Reber Place....I stood at the end of my alley on the Reber side and could see it from there.

Daffy
I just got an email today from a friend...it had alot of postcard type pics in it of the Highlands....

http://members.aol.com/fphdoug/late.html

Hopefully this will get you some info if this link works....

I only went there a couple times for school picnics...we didnt have a car back then ....I remember going on a rented school bus for the picnic, and my mom had to get a ride from someone.

My cousin drove us to Chain of Rocks once, and I think my grade school, Shaw, on The Hill, went there for school picnics after Highlands burned...but without a car ..it was way too far to get there.

There was a place called Holliday Hills or something like that, that was used for school picnics also.
