Teaching Babies to Swim??

Good Grief! This is NOT new..

My son (who will be 29 this year) learned to swim at 4 months old.  This is not a new idea Where have you been Missouri??

.. Similar programs have been in effect for decades now..
WaterBabies  started in the 80's I believe

but in CA it was a well known  fact to teach your infant to survive if they fell into a pool.

Wow
I knew Missouri was a little behind the times.. (and for the most part somewhat nostalgic) but honestly.. 30 yrs behind the times?? Wow..

WHOA  the SNOW.. Measured 8 inches of the white stuff out in my driveway- took a photo of the barn which is 25 ft from my window- visibility is minimal- SNOW in MO March 4,2008

OK Zimm Please turn on the heat!
I'm SO done with cold weather..  and while the snow looks nice- it's NOT fun to go out and have to work in it...THEN it melts and Boy what a muddy mess coming up ..

So here you have it- 8 inches of SNOW in BonneTerre MO

Sitting here shaking as the story of the Kirkwood City council meeting shooting has been unraveling now for over an hour - it's now 9:15 and my son works on Woodbine and he is not yet home from work-
This is a terrible feeling, but glad Fox news is staying right with it as I shake and worry..
no word from my son yet.. and am praying for those officers families who lost their beloved men and the other people who have been shot.. and families.. I wish my son would walk though the door ..

a very frightened goatlady

9:30 and yes he is home.. luckily did the shopping tonight so left work  on time instead of the 7pm he usually leaves.. the evening has been steady  coverage from Fox news.. and prayers in our house going out to all the families and friends involved.. how terrible..  how real  and thank you Fox for  being there.. even though it was emotional as we at home could tell you too are having a hard time with it all.

Zimm, I love you dearly and watch you religiously every morning (even though I rarely post)
Is there ANY chance of  reporting a bit more information when we have severe weather for the Festus, Bonne Terre, Farmington areas? We have little snow plowing on the roads off 67 here and many commute to St Louis for work.
This snow storm is scaring me to death for the morning and evening commute to and from So St Louis 67 to 55 - Also..
You mentioned the pink band is 5-7 inches of snow.. what do the white and blue bands mean?  Dear Dear Guru of weather.. Please keep us more informed down here.. sometimes we feel like we're in Outer Limit..
You can start with the info for this storm.. Purty Please???
Thanks for all your work  and we do appreciate it.. just need a bit of a southern extension..
Thanks

goatlady

When will Missouri catch up with the rest of the civilized US? Out in the MO counties -  ALL fireworks are legal and are allowed at any time any day no matter by anyone at any age which is seriously barbaric and so in need of serious change!

I was told by the Jefferson County Sheriff's office  that nothing can be done in the county to people shooting fireworks in the middle of the night, every night and if they by chance happen to burn something on my property I should call the Fire Dept.

So if my hay barn gets burned to the ground or my livestock end up trampling each other, it is on my head to fix and deal with as there is no laws for the Sheriff's Dept  to charge someone with even if they DO respond to a call.

I have been dealing with these illiterate hillbillies out here shooting off things that go boom (because apparently their  inbred mentality seems to enjoy anything that makes a big noise) Allowing small kids  to light these things  pointing them at the neighborhood livestock, barns and going all through the night because you see, these ignorant hillbillies don't have to get up early to get to work  since they live on their drug money and cannot hold down a real job, 2am bottle rockets  seem to be Ok in their book and the Sheriff does nothing.

I guess when one of these sorry jerks blows off a face or a hand, maybe Ma and Pa will take the bad fireworks away from the 8 yr old and shoot them off themselves after downing a few six packs and what ever pot and meth that can afford.. Funny - none of them can afford the rent but By George, they can sure afford meth and bottle rockets.

Get with it Missouri and get civilized- Ban Fireworks except on the 4th of July and done by a licensed professional pyrotechnic.

Only 10 states in the US allow bottle rockets without a permit.. they all need to get an update..

With all the controversy last week  about the responsibility of Shannons and Josh Hancock .. did he look drunk, didn't he look drunk? should they have stopped serving him? are they at fault? etc..
I may be confused... but years back when I used to go out to clubs.. seems to me there were always people inside who were intoxicated.. people who were there to drink..dance,dine and/or play pool or darts..  I've never been to Shannons but I doubt they are much different..
I do not support drinking then driving.. but  I don't wear blinders either.. and in my humble opinion.. most people who are IN a bar of any kind.. usually are there to drink and end up somewhat drunk.. in various stages . I don't imagine any drinking establishment would make much money with people coming in to have a limit of 1 or 2 drinks (which in some people could also cause them to be considered legally drunk) and while I certainly do not advocate drinking and driving.. most of these people do have to leave somehow.. and usually in a car.. and while the management will usually ask if they need or call a cab for those who are seriously  drunk.. I'm sure 90%+ of the people who do leave a bar/lounge are legally drunk and shouldn't get behind the wheel.. to ask the management to police these people one at a time or be responsible for and make a judgment call on each one is ridiculous and while in theory may be ideal.. it is not realistic..
When you become of legal drinking age.. you also take the responsibility to know when to stop and knowing when you should not be getting behind the wheel. Time to take responsibility for our own actions.. and quit blaming everything and everyone around us and I would bet my bottom dollar that the people who are screaming the loudest about Shannons dropping the ball and not stopping him from getting behind the wheel are the very first people who scream about 'Big Brother" calling all the shots and controlling our personal  choices.. ya think?

First of all I hope all you who condemned me for blasting the drunkenness of Josh Hancock feel stupid now.

Now his dad wants to sue the bar, the tow truck company/driver and driver of the disabled vehicle? WHAT A JOKE!

How about face the facts. He was a drunken stupid fool that was well old enough to have stopped drinking before he was so drunk he couldn't navigate his vehicle therefore killing himself and Thank God didn't take an innocent life along with him.

It is this kind of money hungry screwballs who ruin good court cases from ever winning a lawsuit because they weaken the system with ridiculous lawsuits such as this..

Get a GRIP Hancock family..Put the blame where the Blame belongs.. He was a big boy and should have known better than to drink himself into oblivion and then get behind the wheel of a car..

Your son was a JERK and killed himself.. no one to blame but his whiny ignorance. I know he hadn't been lectured the 2 days previous to this at the ballpark by his manager.. he was a screwup, a flunky, and a drunk

Buh Bye now.. One less drunk on the road..

Send them a ticket to the next away game and call it even.. (in the cheap seats)

PS: I retract my statement in a previous post that I felt sorry for his family.. No, I don't they are greedy money mongers.. who obviously cannot face reality..

Ok OK.. SO it is Sad that such a young life is gone.. BUT come on guys.. a drunk is a drunk Give them a set of car keys and they become..  a drunk driver.. It's damned lucky he didn't take out another life with him. When the first report came out that a cab had been offered it was apparent he was leaving drunk enough that someone was aware he needed a cab.. But PLEASE By ALL means.. Glorify him because he was a Cardinal player.. (albeit following in the footsteps of his beloved manager ).

I don't care if I don't win a popularity contest here. but I HATE drunk drivers. there is NO Excuse for any of them so Puleese.. do not glorify this because he was a Card. So what to say to the kids? Tell them.. Drunks shouldn't drive.. period. Or they Die.. and if everyone is lucky they are the ONLY ones who die..& that some innocent driver who happens to be abiding by the law doesn't get caught up in his stupidity and end up dead right along with him.

With all the accidents on the news this morning.. how about less spotlight on whether you are wearing a seatbelt and more on driving lessons for all.. that  would be a fresh thought.. how about teaching these jerks HOW to drive.. before they give them a license.. ??

I feel sorry for his family.. but for him I say BuhBye Now.. One less drunk on the road..

What is WRONG with parents today?

Do they not know how to be a parent? Now the FCC wants to regulate violence on TV.. How about NO? The violence in most shows is After Bed time anyways.. How about parents Watching what the little darlings have on TV? This is how we did it when I was a kid..

So because some lame parents cannot judge and monitor what little Johnny watches on TV .. I have to forgo MY shows? Thats a bunch of... TV has Finally gotten real.. acting and talking like most people do and it is finally enjoyable.. I raised my son with a careful eye- allowing only certain shows and I was WITH him while he watched what little TV he was Allowed to watch.. I didn't just park his butt in front of a TV in his room and go away to allow him to do what ever.. I was a PARENT..

( hey that's a fresh idea.. how about being an actual parent?)

He sat with me and we watched things that were suitable for his age.. when he went to bed (at a decent hour) then I watched what I wanted to watch.. I didn't need to government to tell me what to do and how to do it.. Don't they do that enough now ..?

That was 27 yrs ago.. and funny he turned out just fine.. now he watches what ever he likes.. because Guess what ??? He's an adult.. which should be the right of every adult..

So because you don;t want little Johnny to see something bad on TV... I can't have it on Mine? BS! How about charging Parents with young kids extra to have violent FREE TV.. instead of taking away the shows the majority wants to watch?

Ya know.. Not ALL of us have children under age.. and for those of you who do.. instead of waiting for the government getting involved and making a law that takes away everyone's rights.. - how about getting off your lazy butts and make the little darlings do what YOU want them to do? Turn the TV off if they cannot mind.. Hey another fresh idea.. children that listen and mind.. I haven't seen much of that in the last few generations..

I did my job.. I raised my son.. now... I want to watch VIOLENCE and LOTS of it.. and Cussing and partial Nudity.. ON MY TV .. WITHOUT having to pay extra for it..

I'm not talking porn so get off that idea right now.. I'm talking about the regular weekly TV programming.. which as I said before Most of which comes on AFTER the little darlings should be in bed.. so how about NO! you cannot watch that.. then get up and turn the TV off -(if you aren't watching it) - if you are then make them go play or do homework.. take TV's out of their rooms.. and make them do something constructive.. hey how about that Homework.. Another Fresh Idea.. then maybe the kids you are raising won't be as Lame as YOU are.. that's a refreshing thought.. a new generation that may have a brain..

Parents.. Quit depending on the government to raise your kids.. Grow a pair and use some rules.. and maybe ... Just maybe those kids will amount to something when they grow up.. You cannot expect them to be anything other than lame if that's is how you raise them..

They Need to have restrictions.. and rules by which to live..

I don't ...I am grown and so is my kid.. so don't mess with MY programming..

Yet.. Another Catholic Controversy.. so what else is New?

It's just like the Catholic Church to have the need to be forefront in the news.. Come'on..  give me a break.. Archbishop Raymond Burke didn't need to make a big deal out of Sheryl Crow's position on abortion and  stem cell research.. This function isn't about that.  She is a cancer survivor and is not there to speak about either of the topics he mentioned.. She is Giving her time for a good cause.. Seems to me Burke has now made this all about Him and his viewpoint.. (yes I know it is in the Catholic Teachings ) but . again.. it is petty.. and I for one, think he threw the limelight on himself rather than the topic at hand.. But IMHO that is what the Catholic Church is all about.. guess there just hasn't been enough "priestly events " lately to keep them going ..

Sorry, but after having been reared catholic and then as an adult being given the chance to be reborn a Christian.. I don't have very positive outlooks on the catholic sect.

OK so I know it isn't Really Zimm's fault.. But Hon.. You do need a new pair of shades.. maybe if you sport a new pair of cool shades.. we can get some decent weather.. The weather Gods are angry at the look Zimm.. JK!

I need to be able to get my kids BACK Sleeping Outside.. before there are more and no more will fit in front of the tiny space heater.. LOL

AND Where was Tim hiding this morning? My guess is he couldn't get outta his bunny outift.. or Maybe.. it wasn't an outift at all and he is in hiding..until he can transform back into the Tim we all know..

Standing ovation in Jupiter- WHY? How stupid.. What were these people applauding?

What kind of shape had he had to be in to slump over a steering wheel in the first place..??

Sitting at a light , foot on the brake.. what if his foot had slipped off the brake? It doesn't matter who it was.  LaRussa or Joe Blow - he's damned lucky he didn't kill someone.

Unless I missed something, the only apology I heard was that it was an embarrassment.. not that he was sorry for climbing behind the wheel of a car  in the shape he was in (whether it be drunk, tired or a combination of both).

I heard some of the phone comments from the morning news with the context of  "SO WHAT? he drank a few" - It didn't surprise me that not one of the callers sounded sober.  SO WHAT?

He is a role model and public figure for one thing, and for another he gives PR releases on drinking and driving. Any time you are in the public eye, you need to be especially diligent   about your actions.  I am appalled to think anyone would give him a standing ovation for getting out of jail after a DUI.

GetYerGoat

I gave up Baseball for goats in 1990- I was an avid SF Giant fan living in the Bay Area and never missed a home game-including the World Series Earthquake Series- Sitting 10 rows behind homeplate is was wonderful-Until the team broke up and I decided to move and raise goats. I also used to drive limo for my husbands & my company (Elegance Unlimited) and drove the Peter Jennings ABC crew for 78 straight hours during the Earthquake coverage- once I got home from Candlestick that night... Now I run a herd of goats mostly angoras and do artwork for t-shirts for goat lovers, I am a columnist for GOAT Magazine, writing articles on goat care- I have had one of the net's leading goat care websites on the net since 1996 and now spend much of my time doing my artwork for my GetYerGoat.com shop - I still like baseball but it just isn't quite the same. I do, however, love my goats and am happy I made the change.
