There's a study going on involving the cobblestone streets on Laclede's Landing.

The problem isn't the cobblestones - it's what's underneath - the rock & the sand shift constantly as people walk over them and tractor trailers drive over them.

Some parts of the cobblestone are just down-right dangerous - and expensive to repair.

Do you think the cobblestone streets should be saved no matter what the price is?

Or would it be better just to pave over them?

I say save the historical cobblestone streets. There are plenty of cobblestone alleys that can be used to repair these streets. Some of these alleys are in terrible shape with big sink holes. Remove their cobblestone and pave over these.

Haven't hung out on the Landing for several years now, but the cobblestones have always been part of the charm, as well as the history of the area. Cars should be travelly slowly in that area anyway, right?...and if wearing heels, just learn to walk on the balls of your feet and you won't get hurt...Save the cobblestones!

The historical preservation society needs to step up and do what they do best. Is it not already considered a historical part of STL and protected under law?

I think it is part of the charm.

I hate when I get turned around on one of them though.

They are a historical part of St. Louis and should be saved at all costs!

Part of the mystic of Laclede’s Landing are the cobblestone streets. I am sure there can be a way to fix the foundation or the road and still keep the cobblestones without great expense. However I bet the main problem are old chase ways for sewer and waterlines. This will be the most expensive part to replace.

Save them .....my best friends Father's Quarry supplied the grainte cobblestones many years ago for the streets from a little town down here in the country called: Grainteville. She still has the paper with her Dads pic cutting, delivering the grainte cobblestones.

SAVE THEM...........

Save the cobblestones! Laclede's Landing is one of the few areas of St. Louis that has maintained some character, due in great part to the cobblestones. (We miss Mississippi Nights!)

I think every twenty-something lady should try traversing the Landing in stilettos! It's a rite of passage...

O.K., thats messed up!! I might as well use them for my drive way.LOL They did that to a section many years ago and sold them. One of my parents home had them on site as flower bed boarders. I allways thought it was wrong to sell/eliminate them...

There is so much of our history that is being distroyed to make room for progress. I say save the cobblestones....they are a part of the St. Louis history as well as the river front. They are beautiful. Save the Cobblestones.
