A Missouri lawmaker is proposing legislation -- if kids get bad grades or they decide to dop out -- they *cannot* get a driver's license until they're 18.

There are some exemptions -- if you get a GED, etc.

But what do you think about that?

Is it a good idea?

I am sure you will get a variety of answers and it is a little risky for me to put my opinion out there first....lol

But yeah I like it...you get kicked off team sports if your grades drop. It is an incentive to keep your grades up and stay in school.

I also think if you are one to keep your grades up you may be more likely to follow the rules of the road etc (may be....)

I like the exemption too tho, b/c there are those kids that school is just not right for them. So this would encourage THEM to get their GED. I like it.... are there any draw backs?

If you work will they let you drive? Why do people need so many laws, and restrictions, just to live. Worry about the punishment the killers get killing human beings first, then screw around with kids wanting to work. You do know killers roam the streets legally don't you?

lol bubba....yeah...I get your point...but
I am looking at incentives to keep grades up and keep kids in school.

My kids grades are great and this is not an issue either way so no problem here...I just thought it sounded like a good idea

Leave people alone. LIBERALS just do not stop. When I retire I will be in a rural area and less LIBERAL State. GOOD BYE MISSOURI TEXAS HERE I COME.

I am not a liberal but you might like Texas, my brother loves it there. Me ...no way, cant stand Texas, I can barely stand to visit it...
lol....
and maybe I am confused but I thought the liberals are the ones who dont want the rules and regulations...I will be the first one to admit I am not on top of the political stuff!

I an not liberal....I am not ultra conservative. I am a US citizen and proud of it. I AM a strong believer in God and have a strong faith...I AM a mother of 3 and happily married....why do we have to put people in boxes. Libers...conservatives...left wing, right wing....cant we just all get along? And really why does ANYONE feel they need to call the others names? Talk about leaving people alone....

I think its a bad idea. The government has been working overtime to take more and more of peoples rights away. Many will say it's a priveledge to drive not a right, but I look at it as they have made it a law that you can drive at the age of 16 so it's a person right. Putting limitations on it only takes away more of a persons freedoms. If they want to keep kids in school quit putting so many demands on them and get teachers who want to teach not just get a paycheck. jmo

Again here is that mentality that everyone will get a college education or will benefit from education. No matter what you do in education you are not going to get 100%. You may come close but it won’t be 100%. You can make student go to class but you cannot make a student learn. Keeping them in class longer does not mean they will learn more either.

I have some students all they ever wanted to be is a truck driver, drive a forklift, or just mow lawns and remove snow. I don’t see how solving for x or knowing how to write a term paper will help them. Other students work because they HAVE to in order to eat and have a place to live.

Then what about in rural areas where 14 year olds (some even younger) are driving tractors and combines in the fields and sometimes on the roads? Some of these kids are kept out of school during planting and harvesting.

Like Kurkel said in her first statement I much rather see students have at least a C average in order to participate in sports. It has been hard to explain to some students why they didn’t get a scholarship when looking at their grades. Fortunately I had Coaches who demanded that we maintained a B average otherwise we could run/swim in a meet.

BTW this is not about being a liberal or conservative these are facts of life. Just get tired of no one taking responsibility, facing reality, and someone has to be blamed for something. THAT GOES FOR ALL SIDES OF THE ASILE!!!!!!!!!!!

To snoopy- See how many ideas you want to impose on people. Leave people alone, too many stupid laws. You people will never solve all the problems for the people. This is just another restriction. Liberals love to debate this BOOGEDY.

mr snoopy - agree with ya bud. I have a few degrees and some of the stuff I learned in college isn't applicable to my line of work. It sounds like that bubba dude is mad at the world.

Just Liberals and their Socialist Ideas. Just like another law and restriction. The last law that made me hate the world was the Illinois smoking ban. I do not smoke but felt it was stupid to tell a small business owner how to run his business. But it is just another restriction that LIBERALS like.

So lets change the subject and talk about how stupid the LIBERAL DEMOCRATS screwed up and will tear their party apart? The big FIGHT that will go on all the way to the end of the convention. The winner after all that may now be...................JOHN M______

This really sounds like something the parents themselves should be doing no the law.

My parents expected good grade or I didnt leave the house over the weekend. No law required. No bribbery needed.

Maybe if parents acted like parents such a concept wouldnt be necessary. A law like this just makes it easier for many parents to not do their job. Make it the govts job instead.
