It's no longer just your two front teeth!

I was in line at Toys 'R Us on Wednesday afternoon - They were having a 50% off sale - and the parking lot looked like it was Christmas Eve! It was packed!

But my jaw dropped when I listened to the grand total of the woman in front of me:

She spent nearly $700 on toys!

Am I crazy?! I don't care if you have ten kids - that's **a lot** of money to spend-- on toys!

How much are you spending per kid this year?

I am a cheapy I give the kids and Grandkids 25 dollar each cash.I get the great grandbabies $100.00 savings bond and a couple of outfits each.I have cut down a whole lot as the family has grown. We don't buy for anyone else. Oh wait our 1 nabor we buy a box of candy helikes. We also tell everyone not to buy us anything,Not that we are bah Hum Buggy. But they have enough to buy for with their own families. We don't need anything and I hate getting stuff that I would never buy myself. If I want something I buy it.Now my daughter and Granddaughter every year get me somekind of M & M dispenser. Well they are cute and I keep them all out. But heck they never buy M & M's to keep them full. They cost alot too. LOL. If they buy us anything I tell them if it makes them feel better to buy something. Buy us a $1.00 scratch off lottery ticket. I make it easy on them.Oh yes Iwe use to go crazy with our kids and grandkids. But then as they get older they are to darn exspensive for me.

I was in Toys 'R Us around 11 AM Friday morning and it was packed. My mom and I were in there getting X-mas presents for one of my nieces. We were there less than 30 minutes but had to wait at least 10 minutes to check out due to long lines.

I bought my son a little silver plated gift set with a rattle and two boxes to hold his first tooth and his first lock of hair. It's his first Christmas and sadly I won't be able to spend it with him. Instead of buying him even more toys that he won't play with but a month or more clothes he'll out grow in a week I'm going to buy him a $1000 Certficate of Deposit and start him a college fund. I'm going to get him one every year until he's old eough to know what to do with the money and then I'm going to give it to him. Harp, the last thing you said in your post makes me hope that my son turns out as good hearted as you are.

I usually spend more than I wanted too, but who doesnt. As kids, my siblings and I were the only grandkids on BOTH sides of the family. Two sets of grandparents, two aunts, one uncle and only us three to buy for. Man I love Christmas. Beacause of that I always feel like if I dont get them a bunch then Im not giving them a good Christmas. One year I spent $1500 on my daughter and nephew alone. My husband really opened my eyes as to how much money that really was. This year we only spent $800 total. And I think everyone has something great.

$700.00 on the kids is very easy to do. With 5 kids, I can see it happening, maybe more, but it sure isn't all on toys!
The original question was, "How much are you spending per kid this year?"
I know a lot of families buy all the kids a certain number (the same amount) of gifts. We used to do that when the kids were younger but now that we have a teenager and preteen, we don't do that anymore as their taste in 'wants' is more expensive. We try to keep it simple but with 5, soon to be 6 kids, gifts always seem to creep up the walls.

Good morning!

I have spent about $150 on my two boys this year. I think it will be about that for my two older girls when I finish up this week. On my oldest daughter & her husband about $75 and $50 on my granddaughter.

It is hard for me to tell what I spend....no one else buys for my boys, for the most part. We dont have much family...MY dad sends me money to be split amongst the kids and my hubby and me (but it also includes birthdays for the next yr)...so I have to figure it all out. Then my mom who cant afford to buy anything for them...so I buy stuff for them from her. So I try to take those things out of what I buy and then spend around 100 on ea. of them (I have 3)...sometimes a little more depending on the yr.
Its just hard when I am buying for them ..from everyone. But I try to keep track and I try not to overspend and I try to buy things I know they will really like and/or want and will use.
so if I had 5 kids it would be 500 dollars....
My hubby and I only spend about 100 on ea. other. Which really comes out of the money my dad sends....

My kids are 22, 20 and 15. My guess is we spend about $200 each but my wife does most of the shopping so I could be off. She also starts in October so it does not hit all at once.

All i want for Christmas is my oldest son to be back state side from Iraq and home with his little boys. Better yet all the sons and daughters to be home from Iraq and be with their families....that would be PRICELESS.
