It seems like no matter where you turn - there's a speed trap somewhere in the St. Louis area. Now, if you're speeding - you're speeding. But some people say they're getting tickets in some municipalities for going just one mile over the speed limit!

Are there places you automatically hit the brakes when you enter it because of the speed trap reputation? I noticed the other day - as I was driving into St. George for the first time *ever* - people actually started hitting their brakes as they entered that town.

What are your thoughts? Please let us know!

i was a lead foot and bought a radar detector. it was going off all the time and sure enough i would see a police car nearby. except when you drive by certain businesses it will always make noise.

as soon as I heard the detector making noises i would slow down. it got to the point most of the time i drive the speed limit and don't even use the detector. on the highway i go with the flow but not with the flow in the fair left lane, omg, some have to be doing 90-100mph.

Here is a novel idea.....DON'T SPEED!!!
I have lived in Michigan. I thought they were bad drivers. I was amazed how here, no one, and I mean NO ONE, drives the speed limit. I think the police have the right to pull those who are breaking the law over.

Sad thing is, I drive the posted speed limits and people get mad at me for doing so. Now what is wrong with that picture?

Think of it this way if you don't speed or do something stupid you will not get stopped. I think it is just fine to set up speed traps even the State Police do it.

If you don't like to be stopped then don't do something to be stopped.

my 2 cents

Radar detectors for the most part are worthless. With most PDs having "newer" equipment, the radar guns allow for the officer to lock the radar emmiting signal. With the pull of a trigger they got you.

The small muni's are rediculous with the amount of traffic stops and citations they write. Bella Villa is .1 Sq miles and wrote over 3000 tickers last year.

All of the small departments less than 10 officers need to be combined. They should be the St. Louis County Municipal Police.

If you live in these cities where you feel that officers are taking too much of their "crime stopping" time writing speeding tickets - contact your elected officials. Hopefully these cities are allowing the margin of error (5-10mph).

slcpdexplorer: Certain radar/laser detectors will fully eliminate this problem (if you speed). Mine was about $400 and does the trick. If you really want to be "speed trap" immune, buy yourself a passive radar jammer. These devices do not create a signal (hence passive) and are legal in almost all states. When Johnny Law's radar gun hits the jammer their gun does not calibrate properly thus an error message.

Lastly, for those of you above saying just don't Speed then what the heck do I do with my blog name? I really only speed on the interstate so these small cities in St. Louis writing 3000 plus tickets - Speedy62269 won't be getting one.

Slow Down! I know I'm a lead foot AND I have to pass through one of the speed traps daily to go to work that also has several cameras. I dont have a radar detector anymore (someone stole it...I guess they needed it more) But so far I have been lucky. Guess I'm doing the speed limit.

I doubt that you get a ticket for going 1 mile over the speed limit. I can see maybe 7 or more. There is a reason that they post the speed limits. SLOW DOWN. When you are driving you should be driving. Not talking on a cell phone and acting stupid. Also with the way that gas prices are going up, you actually use more gas when you are speeding then when you are not..... Common Sense. Many speed traps on Manchester between McKnight and Brentwood, but again, if you are in their city pay attention they are allowed to write a ticket if they like sense they have it posted.
